The Best Deals in the Talbots Red Door Sale Right Now

Talbots’ famous Red Door Sale is one women look forward to because so many pieces from previous collections are heavily marked down. I’ve rounded up the styles I’d buy to wear now, along with the pieces worth putting away for fall and winter.

What Is the Talbots Red Door Sale?

The Talbots Red Door Sale is one of the retailer’s biggest sales of the season. You’ll find 40% off markdowns throughout much of the store, plus extra markdowns during the sale, including clothing, shoes, accessories, and plenty of wardrobe basics. This year, the sale is happening now through 7/19.

Unlike a typical clearance section that’s picked over by the time you get there, the Red Door Sale often includes many of the pieces you’ve been seeing all season. It’s a much better time to shop if you’ve been waiting for prices to come down.

What to Buy and Wear Right Now

There’s still plenty of summer left, so I’d start with the pieces you can enjoy immediately. Lightweight fabrics, easy dresses, shorts, and breathable tops will carry you through the hottest days now, and many of them can transition into early fall with a light layer.

I shared this Short Sleeve Jean Jacket earlier in the summer, and I’m happy to see it’s included in the Red Door Sale. It’s softer than a traditional denim jacket thanks to the cotton and Lyocell blend, and it’s an easy layer over a tank, dress, or T-shirt. There also quite a few other colors on sale in addition to denim versions!

These navy Heritage Twill Ankle Pants have a great fit and have been worn on repeat this summer. The higher waist and relaxed leg create a long, clean line that instantly makes your legs look longer. I’m wearing a regular, which is supposed to be ankle-length, but is almost full-length on me.

When it’s hot outside, I don’t want to overthink getting dressed. This linen shirtdress is cool and comfortable, and the sailboat stripe gives it a classic summer feel.

I know it seems odd to recommend a sweater in July, but I always keep a lightweight one handy. This Cotton Mixed Stitch Johnny Collar Sweater makes a great transitional piece thanks to the breathable holes.

I like having a few casual dresses in the summer because they’re cooler than shorts and a T-shirt when the temperatures climb. This Short Sleeve Johnny Collar Dress has a nice, relaxed feel.

I have last year’s blue and white version of this dress, and it’s still one of my favorites. The sleeves make it a nice option if you prefer a little more coverage, and linen is hard to beat on a hot day.

I’ve recommended Miraclesuit for years because they know how to make a flattering swimsuit. Talbots has quite a few swim styles included in the Red Door Sale, so if your current swimsuit has seen better days, now is a good time to replace it. I like this Rope Stripe One-Piece Swimsuit.

This gauze cover-up is light, packs well, and is much nicer than walking through the hotel wrapped in a towel. Talbots has quite a few cover-ups on sale, so it’s a good time to pick one up, especially if you’re a snowbird or have a warm-weather trip planned later in the year.

What to Buy Now for Fall and Winter

One of the smartest ways to shop is to buy next season’s classics while they’re on sale. You may not wear a wool sweater in July, but you’ll be glad you picked it up when the weather turns. These are the kinds of pieces that don’t go out of style, so buying them at a discount makes perfect sense.

I tend to carry darker handbags once fall rolls around, and this rich brown crossbody will go with just about everything. It’s one of those classic bags that won’t look dated a year from now, which makes buying it on sale an even better idea.

If your white jeans get packed away after Labor Day, these trousers are a nice alternative. The natural color bridges the gap between summer and fall, and the trouser silhouette gives them a classic look.

If you’ve never tried Talbots’ Passport Ponte pants, they’re worth a look. They’re comfortable enough for travel but look much more put-together than leggings, and they’re the kind of pants you’ll start reaching for once temperatures begin to drop.

Last fall and winter, I found myself reaching for bootcut jeans more often than any other style. They’re flattering, comfortable, and a nice way to change things up if you’ve been living in straight-leg jeans.

This Sweater Jacket is one of those pieces that’s hard to appreciate in July, but you’ll be glad you bought it once the weather cools off. It’s an easy layer when a cardigan feels too casual, and a blazer feels like too much.

A denim jacket isn’t just for spring. I wear mine all through the fall, layered over striped tees, lightweight sweaters, and casual dresses. If you don’t already have one, this is a wardrobe staple you’ll wear for years.

By the time we all start thinking about puffer vests, they’re usually back at full price. This one comes in six different colors. I’d rather buy one now, tuck it away for a few months, and forget about it until that first chilly morning.
