Holiday Style Tip For Women Over 50
The first week of October is already over, and that means the holidays are fast approaching…yikes! I know we’ll have several holiday parties and festive events to attend so I’ve started to think about what I’ll wear. Today, I’m sharing my number one holiday-style tip.
Our holiday season includes formal or dressy parties and casual get-togethers at friends’ houses. Long gone are the days when I’d wear Santa sweaters or Christmas-themed accessories. At my age, I aim for modern, classic clothes that can be worn in different ways.

It’s hard to go wrong with black and white. I love a beautiful party dress but find that separates give me more versatility. I can wear this blouse with jeans and boots. The pants will be great with a sweater and flat shoes.
These have front slash pockets and faux besom back pockets for interest, not bulk.
I usually take self-tie belts off garments and replace them with a belt. I decided to wear this one off-center. I crossed it over the center front and secured it with a vintage pin. I didn’t tie a bow or knot which adds extra bulk. I let the pin hold the belt in place.
The only other jewelry I added was my grandmother’s Art Deco earrings. I feel blessed to have them and think of her whenever I wear them. I didn’t add bracelets or necklaces. I’m not trying to look like a Christmas tree! I’d rather my precious earrings, pin, and I be the focus.
I added a Leopard handbag with a shoulder strap to keep my hands free at cocktail parties or to hold my grandson’s sweet little hand when I take him to the Nutcracker Ballet this Christmas! That will be so much fun!!
Dressing with separates is more cost-effective and gives you more flexibility. Now is the time to plan and shop for what you’ll need. There’s nothing worse than a last-minute party invitation when you have no clue what you’ll wear.

LOVE THE PIN ON THE BELT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
A PLUS PLUS!!!!!!!!!
I love this holiday outfit! I would definitely wear something like this. For one thing, I prefer wearing pants more than dresses. I usually don’t wear belts, but I think I could pull off the way you styled it. Thanks for the unspiration!
Aimee
I’m so glad you felt inspired, Aimee. I seldom keep self-belts, but this one worked well with the pin!
I don’t wear pants but this is a great look for holiday get togethers!
Thanks, Antoinette, I agree it would work many places this holiday season.
Dear Jennifer – just returned from our vacation trip niagara-on-the lake and,of course, visited chico’s (so sorry that this shop is not in Germany!). Bought the pants on brown, they fit so good and i love your amazing idea with the pin!

Brown would be gorgeous! They are a terrific fitting pant. I agree:)
Love using a brooch pin on the belt. Just the right amount of sparkle!
I agree, Harriet. With the ruffles in the blouse I thought less sparkle was best.
that is really very pretty!
Very pretty!
I love your grannies earrings! Looking good lady.
That’s a perfect holiday outfit, Jennifer! You look amazing! The pin to hold the belt in place is a fabulous trick and looks great!

Along with everything else that looks great, I noticed the toe nail polish and absolutely love it…..headed out to get some today!
Yay, Peggy! Pick a fun color.
Love the look….and the pin on the pants!, great idea!
Lovely . ..I’m thinking less is more works more and more for me! Maybe a huge jump for me since a arm full of silver braclets is a trademark!
And brings me such joy!
Joy is the key. Wear what brings you joy!!
What a fantastic idea to hold the belt closed with that wonderful brooch—it adds some great bling & is functional!!

ps…I remember the days of the christmas sweaters—they were a blast but I look at them now and laugh!!
I really like your idea about pinning a brooch on the belt! What a great idea to keep a smooth look with less bulk around the waist. You look lovely!

Those trousers are the perfect intersection of tailored and flowing.
