3 Modern Ways to Style a White Skirt For Summer
A very big thank you to Nordstrom and Collective Voice for sponsoring this post.
Today, we’re chatting about an often-forgotten wardrobe staple: the white skirt. They’re a great option for so many occasions and the perfect way to stay cool on hot, sunny days. Today, I’m sharing 3 modern ways to style a simple white skirt. Wardrobe basics that can be styled in multiple ways make it easier to get dressed in the morning and cut down on wardrobe fatigue. I’m sharing a linen midi skirt today, but these outfits could be duplicated with any white skirt.
3 Modern Ways to Style a White Skirt For Summer
Midi skirts offer a modest alternative to shorter skirts and are easier to move around in. They also give a polished, put-together look for women who prefer to show less leg. The length is important, so be sure it ends at a spot where your leg narrows. It’s hard to see from the angle of my photos, but this skirt hits me where my leg begins to narrow below my calf.

All of our outfits today start with this white linen skirt by Reformation. It features a high waistline, a-line silhouette, and a hidden zipper closure at the back. Linen is my go-to fabric in the warmer months, and the 100% linen material of this skirt makes it feel so flowy and breathable. It has great side pockets and is fully lined, which is mandatory for white linen.
For this casual look, I paired it with a cheery plaid shirt, flat neutral sandals, and a straw crossbody bag. I kept my jewelry very simple and tied the shirt at my waist for a relaxed vibe.

This cotton voile button-up shirt is extremely lightweight and comfortable. I love it tied, but it also tucks easily and looks great worn unbuttoned over a tank. Gingham is such a classic for spring and summer, especially in this blue cornflower shade. Rattan and woven materials are a great way to add texture and warmth to an outfit, so I paired it with my favorite All Saints crossbody bag. I also added these beautiful ankle strap sandals, which come in half sizes ranging from 5-11. You can also find them with an ivory leather trim.

This look steps up the formality level by pairing the skirt with a white linen tank, white cardigan, and low strappy sandals. I usually wear a dark column of color, but when temperatures are at their hottest, I’m happiest to wear it in white. Cotton and linen are the coolest fabrics to wear on these days because they breathe.
I paired the skirt with one of my favorite linen layering tanks from Eileen Fisher, then I topped it with my Nic+Zoe convertible cardigan. I love this cardigan and have been wearing this style for years because it doesn’t add any warmth to your outfit but gives great arm coverage. It’s one of my most worn third layers during the hottest weather.

These silver sandals are new and I’m thirlled with how comfy they are. I’ve long been a fan of the comfort of Munro shoes and boots and have been wearing them for years. They offer one of the largest size ranges in the industry and are incredibly comfortable. These slingback sandals come in WW, W, M, and N, in sizes 5-12!
They also come in black or beige. The heel is a stable 2″, plus they have a cushioned footbed and arch support. Metallics are trending this year, and I find them a very versatile neutral, so I opted for this silver shade. I love silver in the summer and it ties well with my silver Laos pendant necklace. The chain on this necklace can be doubled to change the length for various necklines which ups its versatility for me.

This final look might be my favorite. Here, I’ve dialed the level of formality way down with white sneakers, a black tank, and a soft denim jacket. It may not be a typical look, but it’s just my style. This modern classic look is super comfortable for a long day of walking or exploring.
These Paul Green Sneakers are as comfortable as a pair of clunky athletic shoes but have a more streamlined look. I’ve bought most of mine on sale when Nordstrom is price-matching. Even marked down, they’re an investment, so I wanted to share this budget-friendly white sneaker option with you. They’re at a great price point, and reviews say they are super comfy.

I’m convinced I could add a denim jacket to every outfit and not tire of them. I’m particularly fond of denim jackets with no band at the waist which is my current favorite by Kut From The Kloth. They’re more comfy around the tummy, and the shorter length is more versatile for layering. I’m wearing it over a simple black tank, but you could easily add a pop of color if you prefer.

Nordstrom is my favorite department store for so many reasons, not the least of which is their fabulous selection, great customer service, and free shipping both ways. They also offer BOPUS, ROTUS (reserve online, try on in-store), and curbside pickup. I highly recommend joining the Nordy Club, which is free to join here. As a club member, you also earn points for every dollar you spend to use on future purchases.
Are you a fan of white skirts? How do you style yours?

What a great post, thank you! I bought a white skirt of similar shape and style last summer at Nordstrom and love your styling ideas. It’s quite versatile. Mine isn’t linen but it’s not see through even without a lining. Enjoy your trip!
I loved this post reason being the length of the skirt. I tend to stick to a rule of 2ins below the knee but being same height as you this length looks
gorgeous on you . I loved all the looks and the skirt is so summery. Although we don’t have Nordstrom in U K I will search for a similar white
Skirt and in that length too.Roll on Summer .

It’s a very graceful length. I’m sure you’ll be able to find a similar one.
Wow! You look great in all 3 stylings, but I have a fondness for gingham, so the 1st choice wins for me. Off topic question…you once featured Ilia Liquid Powder Eye Tint shadow in Dove, which I then ordered from Nordstroms and just love! Easy to apply and it lasts all day. Like you, I am fair skinned with blue eyes – do you recommend any of the other shades for our coloring? Is there a link where I can order it so that you get credit? Thanks so much for your help!
Dove is my favorite. It’s just deep enough to give some color without being intense.
Hi Jennifer,
I just love these looks thank you for the inspiration the skirt is fabulous l might have to get it. I bought a Reformation skirt from Nordstrom recently, a beautiful dark green maxi with Lily of the valley flowers on it, and it has a lovely look so Reformation is on my mind.
Happy summer !!
This is my first from Reformation and I love it!
I really like the idea of a white skirt for summer. I have worn a long tee shirt type material one for years. It’s narrow with a slit in the back. These selections are great. I like the jean jacket one on you. Looks very comfy.
What is the Reformation linen skirt lined with? I couldn’t find this detail on their website.
The lining is rayon so it’s cool and flowy
My favorite look is the third, but if it’s hot enough for a linen skirt isn’t it too hot for a jacket? I never seem to be able to wear a third layer once hot weather arrives, and in the springtime when it’s still cool enough for the jacket it seems too early for linen. But I like the look on you.
It’s not too hot for me now and will be fine for a few months. They’re great for AC too!
