Dressing Room Diary: Early Summer 2024 at Chico’s
I popped into one of my local Chicos earlier this week to check out the new colors and patterns. You can always count on them to have plenty of fun prints, and this collection does not disappoint. The early summer 2024 collection at Chico’s is loaded with color and uplifting prints.

A dressing room diary is when I go into a local store for a try-on session so you can see what’s new and how it looks on a woman over 25. For reference, I’m 5’4″ and weigh around 144 lbs. I have broad shoulders with straight hips, a long torso, and long arms. I often buy one size larger on top. You’ll see me try on clothes in colors and shapes that may or may not flatter me because I want you to see what’s in the stores and get some styling ideas. I tell you what sizes I am wearing to help you understand how things run.
Chico’s sizes are 000(0/XS), (0/2– XS), 0 (4/6 S), 1 (8/10-M), 2 (12-14)-L, 3 (16/18-XL) 4 (20/22-XXL. Chico’s also carries many garments in petite and some in tall. I’ll tell you what I’m wearing in Chico’s sizes so you can understand how things run.

SLIDE SANDALS
Chico’s has several items in this tropical print, which just felt perfect on the 101-degree day that I visited the store. This cardigan does not close with buttons, making it perfect for arm coverage over sleeveless tops and dresses. They also have this tee and this poncho in the same print.
The print contains lots of blues, so I paired it with a navy tank and these cropped wide-leg jeans. The jeans have a relaxed fit, a high waist, and subtle contrasting stitching. These are white, plus they come in an off-white called natural seeded…where do they get these names? My sandals are from Talbots, and my armload of bracelets are from all over the place ☺️.

Here’s the same cardigan and navy tank styled with a navy stretch eyelet skirt. This skirt is in a soft stretch crinkle fabric with a smocked pull-on waistband that couldn’t be easier to wear. They’re calling it a ‘debut’ design…whatever that means, but I do know it’s flattering and easy to wear. I tied the cardigan to show some waist shaping over the column of navy but it looks just as good untied.

Here’s the same print in the always-flattering Brigitte shorts. The fabric looks and feels crisp, but it still has plenty of stretch for comfort. They come in lots of solids here. They’re a customer favorite with very good reason. I picked up the moss green in the print with this notch-neck tee. It’s a cotton/modal blend that comes in 5 colors and several prints here.

NAVY TIE FRONT KIMONO RUNANA size 1
I’m always a fan of navy so was happy to find this navy eyelet shirt and eyelet, wider leg pants. The pants are a pull-on style with a smooth front waistband and a cropped length. They’re 100% cotton and the eyelets are ‘closed’ so you can’t see through them. This regular has an 24″ inseam and the petite is 22″.
The shirt is open eyelet that you can see through so I’m wearing it over a simple white tank top. On the right, I switched up the look with a flowy, front-tie, navy and white short kimono. To be honest, this just looks like a blouse, not a kimono or a runana…but it’s not my store so I don’t choose the names. The flowy top has a very different and dressier vibe than the cotton shirt.

This longer-length romance cardigan has color blocks of orange, yellow, turquoise, aqua, green, and white, so it’ll go over almost everything. I’m wearing it over the always-useful microfiber tank and classic Brigitte slim crops. The crops come in 8 shades in regular and petite lengths. This regular has a 24″ inseam, and the petite is 22″.

I love the soft combo of white with cream. This no-iron linen tunic shirt has long sleeves with button tabs to keep them up when folded. They’ve brought this shirt back from last year because it’s a customer favorite. It’s great on it’s own or layered as I’ve done here.
The cotton-blend pants are a sateen fabric that feels a bit elevated. They come in black, white, or this english cream color that’s so pretty! The wide leg crop silhoutte is super popular this summer and I prefer it to the slim leg crops which begin to resemble capri pants.

Chico’s no-iron shirts are some of the very best I’ve tried. They come out of my dryer looking fresh and crisp, so they’re great to travel with. This fresh turqoise and white stripe is really flattering on the diagonal. I like this shirt worn open or buttoned closed. I would likely choose a slimmer leg if i was going to wear it closed.
These wide leg Brigitte pants are great! I prefer them over the slim leg ones…just not with this shirt closed. They are a more forgiving fit with a wider leg and will feel cooler in hot weather. They come in 7 colors including my fav, Ink or navy.
Have you shopped the latest Chico’s collection? It’s a favorite brand with many AWSL readers.
Thanks for reading and be sure to wear what makes you feel confident and happy.

I personally like very much the way you present the cloths. I enjoy your try on sessions very much. Gives me a good look at what is out there in many stores I don’t have in my area and gives ideas on how to wear things I had not thought about. Thank you and I appreciate your approach. I have purchased many of the products you have shown on your blog. Thank you.
oh no. Hope you are 100% soon. I love the outfits shown today. Was on the fence on a couple of things (blue skirt and tropical cardigan) and will definitely take a second look. The no-iron linen tunic has been my favorite this season, especially for travel.
That cardigan is so cute and versatile.
Glad to hear that you’re feeling better. Hope the fatigue passes soon. I purchased several of these items and I’m really enjoying them. Chico’s has had some excellent sales lately.
Think of you every day and this terrible COVID-19 virus. Hope you’re over the tiredness soon too. This new variant seems very bad from what we’d heard. And reports from travelers—Covid came home with them. You’re in plenty of company unfortunately. I love these new Chico pieces in navy!
Thanks Paulette. Stay safe out there!
I live in a small town in Western Michigan. No there are no Chicos near me and I am also petite. I have found Lands End in Wisconsin as my go to for almost anything I need and they have almost everything in petite sizing. Quality is good and prices fair.
Lands End is fabulous!
OOOOOOO Love the long cardigan with the white column. Looks great on you.
Thanks Rory!
Thank you always trying on looks so we can see how they look on a real person . Especially helpful to me as we are similar in size and taste .. im still reluctant to try the wide leg crops on my 5’2” curvy body .. THEY seem to make me look shorter wider. but i did order a pair in tall that hit me like regular pants to see how i like them . I love chicos and always wait for their sales and rewards to get good deals .. glad you feel. Better !
That’s a smart way to utilize the various inseam options! 💡
I put in my bag a palm pattern tee and Cool Water colored Brigitte shorts! I think they will go together. If not I have white shorts and jeans. I hope you are doing better. A neighbor of ours went to the hospital the other night. She had Covid 3 weeks ago. Just take really good care of yourself. That darn disease is still very much around.
Those sound great! Thanks Sydney. The fatigue is hanging on so I’ve called my Dr to just check in with her.
Chico’s always have beautiful clothes. Our Chico’s don’t carry petites so have to order online only. I feel like the only person left who doesn’t like ordering online. I really like to actually go to the store! So old school ☺️
My store has very few petites in their stores. That’s just the way things are going these days.
Love their no iron shirts! I have several of them.
Good morning Jennifer, glad you feeling better and have returned to regular activities. I have 6 Chico no-iron shirts and I find them super soft & comfortable, yes, great travel wear and it is nice not always wearing a pullover top. Have a great day
Thanks Pat. I’m still a bit tired but much improved.
