Best 2024 Denim Trends to Try from Nordstrom

This post is sponsored by Nordstrom. Thanks for supporting the brands that work with AWSL.

Trends don’t play a big role in my wardrobe because I prefer to invest in things with longevity. I do make an exception for my jeans because I wear them so often, and they have a big impact on how modern I look… and feel. Today, I’m sharing the 3 denim trends that have been very popular in 2024 that I’ve added to my wardrobe from Nordstrom.

1. Flare Jeans

Flare jeans are back, and I couldn’t be happier because they flatter every body silhouette and when styled properly, will help elongate the look of our legs. There’s something about the retro vibe of flare jeans that also feels fresh and fun for 2024.

FRINGE JACKET size M / MIXED MEDIA TOP size M / KELSEY FLARE JEANS size 6 / LARGE TOME HOOP EARRINGS / MUNRO SHELLEY BOOTIE / LONGCHAMP EXTRA SMALL LE PLIAGE CROSSBODY

If you want to try the flare trend, I highly recommend you try this Kelsey Flare from KUT from the Kloth. They come in regular and petite sizes and are just over $100. Some flares look very retro, but I prefer to dabble in this trend in a more subtle way, and these jeans work perfectly.

MORE FLARE JEANS

NIC+ZOE PLAID FRINGE JACKET size M

I paired this Nic+Zoe plaid fringe jacket with a classic white top to balance out the flare happening at the bottom of the outfit. I like that the slight ruffle collar pops out of the jacket and draws your eye upward. The cotton blend jacket adds the perfect amount of interest and makes for a great transition piece. I also like the juxtaposition of a dressier jacket worn with jeans.

LONGCHAMP EXTRA SMALL LE PLIAGE CROSSBODY

I completed the outfit with this Longchamp crossbody. I love all of the bags I have from the brand, and this one is no exception. It’s small but fits all of my essentials and helps to bring out the silver colors in the jacket. I can easily remove the shoulder strap and carry it like a little purse, too.

Finally, footwear is key with flare jeans. I opted for these low-heeled Munro booties that I styled with all three styles of denim. Their block heel adds a bit of height but is still super comfy and stable to walk in. They come in sizes 5-11, medium and wide width. Their sizing, along with cushioned insole, makes Munro one of my go-to brands for shoes and boots.

2. Straight Leg Jeans

Straight-leg jeans have become a staple in my wardrobe. They’re the modern and timeless alternative to skinny jeans….which are, yes, coming back. The clean, streamlined silhouette is universally flattering, and the straight cut from hip to hem means they work well for both casual and more dressed-up occasions.

NIC+ZOE KNIT BLAZER size M / NZT STRIPED TOP size M / NIC+ZOE STRAIGHT LEG ANKLE JEANS size 29 / TREASURE AND BOND SMALL SQUARE SCARF

Being on the shorter side, I decided to try these straight-leg ankle jeans from Nic+Zoe. I’ve worn other pieces from the brand before but never their jeans until now. They fit true to size and are really comfortable with just enough spandex. The seam running down the front of the jeans also provides a nice slimming effect, which draws the eye up and down to elongate your silhouette.

MUNRO SHELLEY BOOTIE

These jeans hit at just the right spot on my favorite booties. The minimalist design, almond-shaped toe, and neutral color mean they’ll go with everything in my wardrobe this fall.

NIC+ZOE KNIT BLAZER size M / NZT STRIPED TOP size M / NIC+ZOE STRAIGHT LEG ANKLE JEANS size 29 / TREASURE AND BOND SMALL SQUARE SCARF

The rest of the outfit is from the Nic+Zoe brand. The knit blazer and striped top can be worn together or separately all season long. They’re classic pieces that pair well with this modern straight-leg denim. I completed the look with this pleated scarf. I mentioned recently how I’ve been noticing the way some chic women are completing their outfits with a simple scarf. Some people think scarves are out of style, but I can assure you they’re not, and Nordstrom has lots of great ones this fall.

3. Wide Leg Jeans

Wide-leg jeans offer a refreshing change from the skinnies that dominated our closets for years. They’ve been around for a few seasons, so they are now more available at all price points and leg widths. I love their ability to elongate the legs by covering the top of your footwear, which creates a balanced silhouette. Whether you’re tall, petite, or somewhere in between, wide-leg jeans can look good on anyone.

VINCE SHAKER STITCH SWEATER size M / WIT+WISDOM HIGH-WAIST WIDE-LEG JEANS size 29 / MZ WALLACE MINI WOVEN TOP HANDLE CROSSBODY

I think this pair from Wit & Wisdom is one of the best pairs of wide-leg jeans at Nordstrom. They come in regular and petite sizes, go up to a size 18, and are under $100. The classic blue wash goes with almost anything while the high waist ‘Ab’solution powermesh panels hold you in.

I styled the jeans with my Vince sweater that I picked up during the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale. The soft blend of cashmere and wool makes it a great sweater going into fall and winter. Plus, the glacier color is on trend right now.

WIT+WISDOM HIGH-WAIST WIDE-LEG JEANS size 29/ MZ WALLACE MINI WOVEN TOP HANDLE / MUNRO SHELLEY BOOTIE

Metallics are still a huge trend for fall 2024, so I decided to pair these wide-leg jeans with this top-handle woven bag. I know many readers are big fans of MZ Wallace bags, so I decided to see what’s up with the brand. Every bag I picked up felt as light as a feather, no matter the size, so of course, this mini weighs nothing! The silver packs quite a punch, so small doses look great. It also comes with a removable crossbody strap, which makes it even more suitable for my day-to-day life.

The final addition to the outfit that tied it all together is this wool and cashmere scarf. I like that it brings in colors from the shoes and the sweater to complete the look. It’s soft without being scratchy and will go with quite a bit I already have in my wardrobe.

Nordstrom is my favorite department store and one of my go-to places to shop, especially when it comes to denim. They always have the latest styles, including the best denim trends for 2024. They also offer BOPUS, ROTUS (reserve online, try on in-store), and curbside pickup. Nordstrom also offers free shipping both ways, plus their Nordy Club (free to join here) earns you notes to spend on future purchases.

  1. I have been wearing all of the jean styles that you mention. I am 5′ 2′ but I find that I can wear the wide legs jeans if they are a cropped length slightly above my ankle. I pair them with a short top and they look adorable and very on trend. I love Wit and Wisdom, but I’ve also had really good luck with J Jill denim, both blue and white. Like many of the other commenters, I love my jeans and wear them as often as I can!

    1. I am also a big fan of J. Jill denim.

  2. Is it true that shipping is free both ways? Does one have to belong the the Nordy Club (have their credit card)? I recently purchased something on Nordstrom (think it may have been Nordstrom Rack and had to pay return shipping for the size that didn’t work for me. Thanks for advice!

    1. Nordstrom Rack is not free, but Nordstrom is, both ways in the US.

      1. Thank you!

  3. I love your 1st outfit! I think the print scarf with the stripe top and knit blazer are just so chic! That might be my new look for fall.
I bought 2 pair of wide leg jeans from Chico’s and just love them! They’re so comfortable and long enough for this tall gal. Plus, they’re not super wide and I think the deep hem helps them hang better.

    1. I totally agree about how a deep hem helps pants hang better.

  4. Have a box of jeans in various styles that are too large on me now, ready to donate to a women’s shelter so am currently on the hunt for at least one pair of comfortable and stylish ones so do appreciate your links, however am holding on to those that are slim cut/borderline skinny as do work with various types of winter boots (we wear during Canada’s winter months) plus long hemline overlays. As to wide leg ones, have never been totally sold on them as IMHO feel tops worn with them look best either fitted, tucked in or semi-cropped making them more of a challenge to style though I have converted one (unique) pair that still fits me into a midi skirt. Last but not least do love the selection of handbags you suggested and on the subject of scarves, ’twillies’ for handbag handles (a type of scarf / source – Amazon) also can be a nice addition to add some color or pattern to an outfit.

    1. I’m impressed you were able to turn a pair into a skirt! You’re very talented Brenda.

  5. That le pilage bag is just too cute. Maybe I need a new handbag?

I love everything about the first outfit you’ve styled! You look smashing!
At 5’3” (and shrinking…) I can’t wear wide legged pants- just feel like a clown- but the boot cut looks manageable as a compromise. And the white blouse with the frill at the neck is perfect with the jacket. I’m always on the hunt for white shirts with interesting detail and that one looks perfect.
    Thanks for another great post.

    1. I’ll be curious to find out if I am shrinking at my next physical too. Boot cuts flatter everyone so you should give them a try.

  7. I bought several pairs of trouser style jeans last year and love them. Comfy is number one and that means fit around my fluffy waist and narrow hips and thighs. Non of the jeans you are wearing would fit me by the size guide. I normally wear a 12P or 2P at Chicos and they fit perfectly.

  8. I’m a jeans girl! I grew up in the 60s/70s too. Jeans were our uniform. I wore flare and wide leg back then, but straight is my go to now. I have them in light wash, indigo, and black.
I read that skinnies are coming back but not the old skin tight ones, more of a slim or cigarette style. Is that what you are seeing?

    1. I have seen both on the racks but I’ll be doing the cigarette, slim leg version.

  9. I didn’t know that Nic & Zoe has jeans! Will definitely try and find them to try on. Love that knit blazer too. And the MZ Wallace silver purse – gotta have that! So hard to find a really lovely, lightweight crossbody, and in silver no less! Thanks for being such a great “personal shopper” for your readers.

    1. It’s an adorable bag.

  10. I love my jeans also. Can dress them up or down and they always make a statement. Happy Labor Day weekend. 🫶🏼

    1. Have a fabulous weekend!

  11. Great post because I live in jeans, I’ve tried a lot of brands, but I find Wit and Wisdom suits me the best and as much as I love Kit, these jeans do not love my body. the flares are great, but I go for a smaller flare not anything too big I just bought the LaPilage tote and use it all the time it’s it’s a wonderful tote so thanks for putting out everything for fall and for jeans and yes, the jackets are cute too

  12. I’ve worn jeans since the 60’s. We used to embroider flowers on the pockets. Bell bottoms were in then too. I’ve bought and worn jeans more then anything else in my wardrobe. They truly are a staple! I love all the jeans you posted. Wit and Wisdom always fit me .

    1. They always fit me too!

  13. I would happily take all of your outfits you are showing today! I’m definitely going to try out the flares and the wide leg denim you recommended – I haven’t had success with the wider leg pants and it’s great getting a recommendation. I love that Nic+Zoe fringe jacket. Thank you for such a great post!

    1. I think flares will be huge this fall so I am glad I bought these. I’m so glad you liked it!

I recently read that brooches are back in style. I have many and some are were my Mother’s. I d like to start wearing them but don’t want to look “old”. Can you comment on wearing brooches.

    1. You’re so lucky to have some from your Mom. Yes they’re popular again. Try pinning them on the cuff of your sleeve, peeking out from under a buttoned-up shirt collar or anywhere you like. Clusters of them also look great together.

    2. Cindy Hattersley had a great blog post on brooches. So many different ways to wear them these days.

  15. I’ll wear every style of jeans you mentioned here. I like them all and I like that you can completely change your look by changing into a different style of jeans. I wore hip hugger bell bottom jeans growing up too. And my sew on patch was an orange and brown mushroom. And I loved it.

    1. Yes, I wore hip huggers back then too!!

This is a great post, very helpful for fall items. I love the Nic and Zoe knit blazer but I have not had that brand yet. Also the Lepilage small tote is very cute!

    1. Nic+Zoe is a great modern brand with some unique patterns.

  17. Dear Jennifer, I loved reading recollections of your blue jeans history. I, too, have been wearing them since the 60’s and love them as much as I ever did. I smiled at your elephant appliqué and the special items we all wish we had saved. Jeans are still big favorites and I’m glad we have so many choices as fashion and our lives have evolved over the years. I’m not a big Neil Diamond fan, but Forever in Blue Jeans always makes me smile. Have a great day! 👖 ☮️ ✌🏻

    1. My husband and I were just listening to his music in the car yesterday. It brings back funny, old memories.

I bought a le pilage bag and it sprang leaks in 2 corners after 2 weeks wear and tear on holiday. I was very disappointed. (I know you can return it to Longchamps for repair – but that’s a bother – seamstress down the road did the repairs.) Subsequently I bought knock offs in the Far East, but won’t anymore. Apparently knockoffs finance the criminal world. But the $6 bags lasted a good time.

If you could run a column on comparable, and slightly cheaper legitimate styles to le pilage, I would appreciate it. I find the medium size is my favourite for touristing.

    1. I won’t buy knock offs either. They’re also made in sweat shops with horrid working conditions for the workers.
I would return a bag that did that in two weeks. I have a bag that looks similar from Everlane that’s a few years old so you might check there.

  19. I purchased a few pairs of Nic and Zoe denim jeans last season, and wore the heck out of them. They are up for another round this fall. All fit well and are very comfortable.

    1. This is my first experience with them and I’m really pleased!

  20. Thanks for showing all of the different styles of jeans! I recently got my first pair of boot cut jeans and I just love how comfortable and flattering they are.
I am very short and don’t find the wide leg style to be right for me .
When I look for jeans I wish they didn’t have the lighter areas on the fabric. To me it just takes away from the whole look. So I try to find jeans with a consistent color. It isn’t easy to find.
