Elevate Your Everyday Look: The Best Ways To Wear Knit Blazers

Nordstrom sponsors this post. Thanks for supporting the brands that work with AWSL.

I’m a huge fan of knit blazers. They’re the perfect blend of structure and comfort, giving me a polished look without sacrificing comfort. A knit blazer creates a causally elevated look with a touch of sophistication without sacrificing ease of movement. As I age, finding pieces that flatter, fit well, and feel comfortable becomes essential. Knit blazers check all those boxes for me. Today, I’m sharing how I like to style knit blazers.

Today’s knit blazers are all by Nic+Zoe from Nordstrom. They’ve become some of my favorites because their quality is terrific, the styling is modern, and they excel at knit blazers.

1- Knit Blazer With Jeans

This Indigo Fringe Accent Knit Jacket has just the right amount of structure while remaining soft and comfortable. This one does not come in petite, but its shorter length is petite-friendly. It’s a cotton blend that’s machine washable and tumble dry, which couldn’t be easier.

I love the soft, cool blue with subtle white and black stripe detailing. It doesn’t have a front closure, but I always like mine to appear as though they could close. The fringe edging gives it the Chanel vibes, which are so popular this year. I layered it over a simple black tank top to pick up the black in the jacket and handbag.

I paired them with a pair of medium-wash bootcut jeans. Wide legs are still plentiful for fall and winter this year, but I’m leaning more into the flare and bootcut silhouette. They add a flattering balance and feel more timeless for me. These are a smidge long for me, and because I am a Nordie Club member, I can easily get them shortened and be reimbursed with notes to use on future purchases. This Toteme clutch bag was a birthday present from me to me last summer. I’d had my eye on this minimal style for over a year before I finally decided it was the perfect addition to my wardrobe. It has a detachable shoulder strap, and I can also wear it crossbody in a pinch.

Why You’ll Love Knit Blazers

One of the best things about knit blazers is their versatility. A well-chosen knit blazer can seamlessly take you from day to night. I often pair mine with jeans, but they easily dress up with tailored pants or a skirt for something more formal. It’s a wardrobe multitasker that works for so many lifestyles.

2. Column of Color with a Black Knit Blazer

A black knit blazer is a wardrobe staple for a reason—it’s slimming, timeless, and easy to dress up or down. The knit fabric also keeps it softer than a traditional blazer, perfect for all-day wear. This outfit would be ideal for holiday dinners, a business function, cocktails, or any event where you want to feel a bit more polished. This knit blazer has notched lapels and a front button closure. The collar can be worn standing up or folded back the way I have for a more traditional look.

I paired it with these ponte straight-leg pants for a streamlined look. They’re a simple pull-on style with lots of stretch and are as comfy as a pair of sweatpants with a lot more style! I added a pop of color with this printed blouse which is selling out fast! The teal has a richness that coordinates nicely with the black.

I finished the look with my uber comfy black sock booties. I love the way these tuck under a pant leg for a sleek look that elongates your leg. This is my second year with these booties and I could not love them more. The top is a stretchy fabric that hugs my foot and never pinches my bunion. The heel is low and stable, so I can wear them for hours in comfort.

3. Monochromatic Knit Blazer and Coordinating Tones

/ SILVER NECKLACE / MINI TEARDROP EARRINGS

Monochromatic and tonal outfits are one of my favorite ways to look polished and put together with minimal effort. This Fringe Knit blazer is the prettiest pale teal shade. The soft, tailored silhouette creates a refined look. The frayed edges add just enough playfulness to keep it relaxed and approachable. It’s as comfy as a cardigan with a lot more polish.

The open front finishes with a wing collar that frames the face and really calls out for a brooch. It has the same fringe edges as the first blue knit blazer, but this one has flap pockets with button details. It’s a petite jacket that’s proportioned beautifully and fits to a T. I also love that the cotton blend fabric feels light enough to be worn year-round.

I layered a simple white tee underneath to keep the look airy and fresh, but a darker top would work as well. I paired the jacket with these Kut From The Kloth Bootcut corduroy pants in the Lagoon color for a tonal look. They’re a soft, narrow wale with 2% spandex, so they’re super comfy. These come in 8 colors, in petite and regular length.

I chose simple mother-of-pearl drop earrings, a silver pendant necklace, and my comfy taupe suede booties to keep the palette soft, colorful, and sophisticated.

  1. All of these outfits are beautiful! I love knit blazers too! As soon as I saw the teal one, I had to have it…the lagoon pants too!
Gorgeous on you! Casual, comfortable, and oh so chic!

    1. It’s a gorgeous combo 🩵

  2. I love knit blazers. I bought three from Chico’s this fall. I like the Nordstrom one you had on , particularly the option of a stand up collar.

  3. Thank you for introducing me to knit blazers! You included them in a blog a few months ago and I purchased a navy blue one from Nordstrom for our trip to France. I ended up wearing it many many times! It makes a casual outfit look less casual. The light blue fringe one you have on looks great on you. I’ve never thought that light blues worked on me – but maybe now that my hair is grey I should try that color again.

    1. I think the light blue might be fabulous with your gray hair.

  4. Love, love, love the pale teal knit blazer and teal cords on you! I’m also a real petite and the sleeves would be too long in a regular size. The pants look quite long also but would be a simple fix. The tonal styling is my favorite way to dress and you have taught me this method. It works well on a 5’1 1/2” as it makes me look taller. I feel very put together in monochromatic and tonal styling especially in teal, blue, navy and pale grey. Love your looks today Jennifer!

  5. I love the colors you have used today as well as the pieces you have chosen. I am with you on the comfort of knit blazers. For me, I prefer wearing a jacket with buttons because of my full chest. I think the structure is more flattering.

  6. I really like the color of the fringy blazer. It looks great with your jeans. I have a knit black blazer that I’ve worn for years.

Have purchased a few products and some clothing and am very happy! Difficult to find clothes and buying new ones because of weight change. Comment: I have 3 jackets FROM THE MID-LATE 80’s that are exactly the fringe-style… I could not bear to give them up and now they are SO retro and adorable. I am 68 also, almost 5’3″ and between 100 and 105 pounds but hips and ribs still measure 36″ so shopping is tough because I do not own a sewing-machine to shorten pants! Size 2’s are often too long, even in petite. I love the manuka-honey hand lotion (use it several times daily), the long-light blue heavy cardigan and a few other things. SO appreciate and look-forward to your posts.

    1. Find a local seamstress to shorten your pants. My sewing machine broke and I can’t seem to source the missing part so I’ve resorted to using the seamstress at the local dry cleaner and she’s quite good!

    2. Karen Burkett says:

What brand is the hand lotion, please?

  8. I like both the vibrant blazers but find the black one kind of overpowering on you. Personally, open blazers are not my thing because it’s cool in New England, and I want to be able to button them. One comment about “petite friendly” short jackets: the length may be good for petite women, but at 5′ 2.5″, I find the sleeves in a Misses size way too long. Also, the body is often too full (wide) for me in the shoulders and torso. I know you know this, but it would be helpful to us petite women, if this term was discontinued, unless the jacket is cut to fit us.
The corduroy pants are really sharp.

    1. I see what you mean and thanks for pointing that out, however many petite women have long arms and thick torsos so it’s a very individual situation. Plus, a 5’4 woman has very different fit issues than a 4’11 woman and they’re both labeled petite! Alterations are so key for many of us.

  9. The knit blazer , cords, taupe boots, are fantastic colors on you! I’d say better than denim, the soft fabrics really suit you. 🥰

    1. I do love those soft colors too🩵

  10. Bunnie Walker says:

Love love the monochromatic teal look on you! I think it’s one of most favorite looks, and I like so many of the outfits you share. The coloring it just beautiful on you 🎉🩵

  11. The blue and aqua jackets are beautiful on you with your coloring. I love how the trim on the indigo jacket is sewn onto both the inside and outside so you can see it no matter how the collar is worn.
