The Best Lightweight Jackets for Spring for Women Over 50
Kohl’s sponsors this post. Thank you for supporting the brands that work with A Well Styled Life
Spring weather can be unpredictable. It’s sunny one minute and breezy the next, so having a good lightweight jacket (or three) is essential. Today, I’m sharing a few of my favorite lightweight jackets for spring from Kohl’s that are perfect for women over 50. These are pieces that look polished, feel comfortable, and layer beautifully over everything from casual jeans to more elevated outfits.

Refreshing your wardrobe doesn’t have to mean a complete overhaul or a hefty price tag. Kohl’s makes it simple to add stylish, wearable pieces that feel current without sacrificing comfort or quality.
1. The Lavender Trench Coat

For those slightly cooler spring days, a trench coat is always a good idea. This lavender version is a refreshing update on a classic silhouette. It has a tailored fit, double-breasted buttons, and a belt to cinch the waist—so flattering. Plus, the color can work with denim, black pants, or even white jeans for spring

I love the pop of gingham when the collar is turned up, which adds a bit of personality. I wore it over a black and white top and slim black ankle pants, then finished the look with black ankle boots. This outfit is easy, polished, and perfect for early spring outings when you want to look put together without much effort.

This Lands’ End Slub Polo Top is one of those easy, everyday pieces that quietly earns its keep in your wardrobe. The cotton fabric has a soft slub texture that feels broken-in from the start, and the open V-neckline gives it a relaxed feel while the collar adds just enough structure. It’s a great piece to layer under any of these jackets.

2. The Short A-Line Raincoat

Next is this tan swing jacket, which hits right at the hip—a universally flattering length that works well with both straight-leg and bootcut jeans. It has a slightly A-line shape, and it is roomy enough for layering but not bulky. The neutral color goes with just about everything, making it a great grab-and-go option for spring days.
I paired it with a classic navy-and-white striped top and dark-wash jeans for a timeless, casual look. The structured handbag and wedge sandals elevate it just enough to feel polished, while still being incredibly easy to wear.

These Levi’s Classic Bootcut Jeans are a timeless staple that work well for women over 50. The mid-rise fit sits comfortably at the waist without digging in, and the subtle bootcut shape helps balance your silhouette—especially flattering if you carry more weight in your hips or thighs.
3. The Ivory Denim Jacket

A denim jacket is a spring staple, and this ivory version is a nice twist on the classic blue. The lighter shade brightens up your outfits and pairs beautifully with other spring tones. This one has a bit of stretch, so it moves with you and doesn’t feel stiff.
I styled it with a red-and-navy striped tee—a vibrant update that brings energy and contrast. The jeans have a subtle bootcut that creates a flattering silhouette by balancing the hip and ankle. Speaking of shoes, the toffee-toned wedges are soft, feminine, and incredibly comfortable to walk in. This entire outfit feels relaxed but purposeful, with just enough structure to look stylish without being fussy.
Why You Need a Lightweight Jacket

Lightweight jackets are some of the hardest-working pieces in a woman’s wardrobe during spring. They provide that extra bit of warmth without the bulk, and when chosen thoughtfully, they can pull your whole look together. Whether you prefer neutrals, pastels, or a pop of color, there’s something out there that can elevate your everyday outfits.
What I appreciate about shopping at Kohl’s is that their pieces are both accessible and stylish. These jackets are practical but still have those thoughtful details—a flattering cut, a fun lining, or a unique color—that make them feel special. Right now, you can take up to 30% off with a Kohl’s card, OR Take 15% off with code SHOP15 so it’s a great time to update your wardrobe for spring.
What lightweight jackets are you reaching for this season?

Since Nancy went a bit off topic and asked about eye shadow, think I will dive right in and ask a question about makeup artists in general. I had to have eye surgeries that now require me to wear scleral contact lenses just to be able to see, so the custom blended natural mineral makeup that I had worn for years no longer works since it gravitates up under my scleral lenses – yikes, a definite no!! I feel like I need a total make over, but don’t know where to go to find someone to help me with that. Don’t really want to go to a dept store, because don’t like to sit in the middle of the store getting made over, plus don’t think they will have the right products (can’t use any kind of liquid foundation either). Any thoughts?
That is challenging. There are makeup artists that visit the larger dept stores for special events, but you need to find the products that are safe first. Does anyone have suggestions? You might try Jane Iredale.
Love the that lavender on you! I splurged this year and bought light coats in navy, rose and cornflower blue. Good to know it was the right thing to do!
Those sound yummy
I have a lavender longer jacket from LL Bean many years ago. It is still a great jacket to grab but is not waterproof. I love the Draper James Megan but I’m 5’1” and sleeves are usually too long in regular. That sleeve would be difficult to shorten. I love that they are offering trenches in a choice of light colors for spring! I wear my denim jeans jacket and a light weight white jacket I got last year from Walmart! You showed it and I bought it and love it. Thank you for showing items in my more modest budget.
I’ll be sharing more from Kohls in the future too! I know many readers like affordable options.
Cute jackets! I love the short trench coats.
Me too, they’re such a fun twist on the classics
Good morning Jennifer. I love the short tan jacket and we actually have a Kohl’s here that has petites.
Good morning Rosemary. Lucky you!
Good Morning Jennifer,
I have a question for you or any of the readers….
I notice toward the end of the day, any eyeshadow moves into creases on my upper lids. Will a primer on the lid prevent this and if so is there a brand that is preferred ? ….. or is it best to avoid shadow there on the aging eye ?
Thank you
Primers do help a lot. Many cream sticks are now long wearing so they don’t seem to have that issue. I’m not planning to avoid shadow on my aging eyes because it’s fun to play with makeup 😉 This one has great reviews although I have not tried it. It’s a great topic so I’ll dig in further to see what I can find for us Nancy
Great post! Love my denim jackets. Cute trenches.
Trenches are such a great spring option!
