Monday Musings and What I Wore
Happy Monday, ladies! I had a very full and sunny weekend. On Friday, Kev and I walked up to a local Italian market to restock our stash of special olive oil. They must carry 10 varieties, and wow, does quality oil ever make a difference? Of course, then we needed some special bread for dipping, the accompanying balsamic vinegar, olives, artichoke tapenade, Italian coffee..and the list goes on. One of the things I love about city living is being close enough to walk anywhere we might like to go. It’s such a different experience from back home in California, where we have to get in the car to go almost everywhere.
A Few Outfits From Last Week
As expected, I’m wearing large hats every day.

I started the day wearing this cardigan…but as the day wore on, it ended up around my waist. The sun makes a big difference here, but being near the water is breezy, so I always have a third layer. That evening, neither of us felt like cooking, so we walked over to one of our favorite sushi places, and I ended up slipping the cardigan on. Remember when I decided I wouldn’t wear this tank and cardigan as a twin set? Well, I changed my mind :). They work perfectly together, and I feel polished wearing it that way.

Saturday, my daughter and I hit the stores again. I wore my chambray shirt, bootcut jeans, and a new polka dot scarf from an artist here in Vancouver. We were continuing our hunt for home storage over the weekend and made the grave mistake of making a trip to Ikea in the middle of a Saturday afternoon… it was packed!
I found it funny that everything was tied or glued down. Who steals unpackaged toothbrushes from displays? We also checked in on her antique table, which is looking incredible after having the legs lengthened an inch and getting waxed and polished. I’m still on the hunt for a mirror to hang over my mantle, but may skip the antique versions because they’re enormous, and our apartment is tiny.

On Sunday, I wore a cotton tee and coordinating ponte pants from Eileen Fisher, topped with my trusty denim jacket. While furniture shopping, we ran across a very cute clothing shop with pieces from France and Italy. I love exploring little boutiques, but sadly, they’re few and far between these days.
After picking up my fourth blue blouse, I even felt bored, so I wandered over and grabbed a bright pink. It’s a white blouse covered with fuchsia-pink embroidered fronds, and it came home with me. Yup, me… in bright pink. The store was having its grand opening and was bustling with other ladies shopping. We all had a blast chatting about our finds and comparing outfits. I’d been on the hunt for very lightweight jeans and was thrilled to find a breezy pair of palazzo pants in chambray fabric, which also came home with me. Stay tuned, and I’ll snap some photos soon.

I picked up Dress Code by Véronique Hyland and I’m really enjoyiong it. She is the fashion writer for ELLE Magazine, and explores things like “Why has the “French girl” persisted as our most undying archetype and what does “dressing for yourself” really mean for a woman? I’ve just started it but am excited to dive in some more this week. I love a good book about fashion and style influences.
Outfit Of The Week
Red and white is such a fresh-looking combination for summer. For today’s outfit of the week, I created a spend-or-save duo and started with a great pair of white jeans…which many of my favorite summer looks include.

I paired them with simple white tennies, a red and white striped tank, and a red linen shirt that you could wear open over the tank. I added a raffia summer bag, white sunglasses, silver door knocker earrings, and red lipstick. The save outfit is just over $527.00, and the splurge outfit comes in around $ 2,100. Can you tell the splurge from the save just by looking?
Thanks for reading and be sure to wear what makes you feel confident.

Though rarely wear lipstick (only gloss as often break out with a cold sore thus suspect it could be from the dyes used); I did choose the correct high ‘n low on account of their label. That being said; I actually prefer the ‘save’ blouse because of its color co-ordinated buttons that do not compete with it or other pieces worn. Last but not least; totally enjoy ‘what you wear’ posts.

Lovely to hear from you Brenda! xo
I wanted to comment about the EBY bras. I discovered them myself this past winter. They are so comfortable and fit a larger chest well. The bralette is so supportive that I feel fine going out in public. Great bra a little pricey but so comfy!
Agreed!
Hi Jennifer, I love your posts and look forward to reading them. I like the splurge and save outfits, great ideas for my closet too. I have purchased several items you highlighted in your posts, earrings, make up, books, scarves. I’m already major fan of JJill, the petite medium clothing fit perfectly, I can order on line or thru the store to save an shipping costs. No guessing on will the garment fit! Thank you for your informative posts. You look wonderful in all our outfits, you are taller than me, it’s hard finding clothes when you are 4′ 9″ but so many of your ideas work for me. Thank you! Mary Ann
I’m so glad my ideas are helpful Mary Ann!
Love the save and splurge looks. I have white tennie’s and jeans already in my closet. I’d splurge on the Karen Kane stripped top , and I have a similar woven handbag. Actually I like the Express shirt a bit better. Off to shop….love all your looks…..have a great week
I enjoy your splurge & save though I don’t usually get them right. Today’s was easy -the shoes, purse and lipstick gave it away! I love the scarf you wore. Your mention of sushi reminded me of when we stayed in Vancouver in 2015. Our hotel was a couple of blocks south of the river and the bridge going to the downtown area. Across the street was a fabulous sushi restaurant. I wonder if it’s still there? Can’t believe 10 years have passed! If I remember the name I’ll share it with you. But a warning, we went with the “omakase” and were shocked at the bill for just the 2 of us and no alcohol! But it was worth every penny, I mean dollar!
The shoes gave it away! I would have chosen the less expensive outfit because I like it better. I guess my comfort taste and tight budget shows. I can replicate that outfit in my closet only with blue stripes or pink stripes. I don’t wear red. I love your outfits! I would dress like that every day too, especially with your cooler weather. It will be 97 here today! I have on knit blue shorts, age unknown, a blue striped flutter top, age about three years old from JCP, white thin cotton short socks and Brooks Ghost Max walking shoes in white. I wore my white fedora for our early mile dog walk. Everyone was out walking their dogs at the same time! I’m so grateful for ac! Have a great day everyone!
I love hearing about your activities in Vancouver. Your summer outfits look comfortable and well put together. I can’t resist hot pink either.
I don’t pack white jeans for this visit so I may need to find some for this too. It’s such a cheery vibe!
I love her scarves! I had a last minute “dressy” event and didn’t have time for shopping. Instead, I wore a plain navy sheath dress with one of her architectural scarves. I had so many comments on the scarf and no one noticed the plain Jane suit dress. Your scarf is such a pretty colour! I may have to pop down to Granville Island to see what other lovelies she has
Please say hi for me. She’s darling
And I love the white NYDJ. I have a few pairs and they are great! First time I wore them I got lots of compliments.
They’re so flaterring, I agree
Thanks so much for doing the splurge or save. I’m on a bit of a tight budget and I love seeing your ideas!
I’m glad you like them!
Good morning, Jennifer! Love your relaxed, comfy styles in this post. I like to look nice but must have my comfort as first priority. Also enjoy your spend or save styles. Just goes to show us that you can look modern and put together from most any source, just choose wisely. Have a wonderful day!
Thank you for posting the outfits you ate wearing and links. Do you ever buy outfits off Amazon?
I buy lots of shoes, hats etc, but not too many clothes.I do have a few sweater jackets from Amazon.
I love the Spend or Save posts. It’s fun and I’m wrong almost all the time.
Love everything you wore! I really like the red and white outfits. I could tell just by looking at the shoes which was the splurge. Your book really sounds interesting and enlightening.
I recommend looking at thrift store, I love Goodwill, for storage and mirrors. You may have to go a few times but you will be amazed at the selection.
We have been stopping through several thrift stores to see what they have
I got the splurge by the Paul Green sneakers😂 However, I like the save red linen top better because of the color buttons. Love your save/splurge posts!
I do too!
Good Morning Jennifer: Always love your “what you wore” posts. Those JJill jeans caught my eye.
They’re one of my favorite pairs! So stretchy and comfy.
I’m a sucker for olive oils of any / all types! I love to wander around cities; we didn’t get to do enough of that when we were in Vancouver and hope to return someday. I actually like the SAVE shirt better because the buttons blend into the blouse, which I appreciate in darker colors like black and navy.
I do too!
My God, those scarves are gorgeous’
She’s really talented. If you call to order something please tell her I let you know about her.
