Easy Fall Layers and Texture I’m Loving From Talbots For Fall
Talbots sponsors this post. Thanks for supporting the brands that work with me by shopping through my links at no additional cost to you.
Some fall collections are practical. Others are pretty. Talbots’ latest pieces for fall 2025 manage to be both, and then some. I’ve always appreciated how they interpret trends in a way that works for grown women…they’re modern, but never overdone. Their clothes are timeless, easy to wear, and thoughtfully designed for real bodies, which is probably why so many of us keep going back to them, year after year.
This season, they’ve leaned into the best part of fall dressing: texture. Think velvety corduroy, softly structured jackets, cozy sweaters you’ll actually want to wear, and denim with just the right amount of polish. These are the kinds of clothes that make getting dressed feel simple again…not fussy, not precious, just quietly pulled together. And today, you can save 25% on your entire purchase during their Anniversary Event!

I’m happy to be partnering with Talbots to share a few of my favorite finds from their new September collection that I’ve been wearing and loving lately, and ones I think will work beautifully for women in this stage of life.
Let’s take a closer look at the shapes, textures, and layers that are making fall dressing feel fun again.
The Foundation: Ponte Pants & a Column of Color

I always start fall with foundations…those comfortable, go-with-everything pieces that work just as well for errands as they do for dinner out. These wide-leg ponte pants have quickly become one of those staples.
The fabric is smooth and structured but still stretchy enough to move with you. I appreciate that they don’t sag or bag throughout the day which is something I’ve come to expect from ponte, but not every brand gets it right. Talbots does.
They’re labeled mid-rise but hit right at my natural waist, which I always appreciate for the subtle tummy support. The fit is clean and flattering, and the flat front and no back pockets mean nothing bunches or creates lumps under sweaters or jackets.

One detail I love? The flat seams running up the front and back of the legs that adds just enough structure and help visually elongate the leg. The front patch pockets are modern and discreet; they don’t add bulk at the hips and give the pants a fresh, updated feel. I wouldn’t load them up with anything heavy, but for style alone, they work beautifully.
I’m wearing them in Indigo Blue, and I paired them with the matching cotton turtleneck for a long column of color. It’s a trick I rely on often to simplify layering and create a sleek base when I’m adding a jacket or cardigan on top.
Dressed Down: Ponte Pants, Sneakers and a Corduroy Blazer

The beauty of a good base is how easily it shifts with a few styling tweaks. Here, I took the same ponte pants and turtleneck combo, swapped the boots for simple sneakers, and layered on this soft corduroy blazer in a rich, pretty blue.
It’s amazing how that one change makes the whole outfit feel more casual but still put together. The blazer adds just the right amount of structure without feeling stiff. It’s made from a soft, wide-wale corduroy that brings warmth and texture, and the tailored cut keeps it polished without tipping into “boardroom” territory.

The fit is easy to move in, and it layers comfortably over everything from lightweight tees to sweaters (or in this case, my matching cotton turtleneck). The lapels lie nicely, and the overall shape is clean and flattering with no extra bulk or awkward pulling.
This is the kind of third piece I rely on in early fall. It adds visual interest without overwhelming the look, and it’s an easy way to transition summer basics into cooler weather without immediately jumping into heavy coats.
A Little More Casual: Blazer and Jeans

Of course, no good blazer should be a one-outfit wonder. After dressing it up with the ponte pants, I wanted to see how it played with denim…and spoiler: it’s just as good. I paired it here with a simple black long sleeve cotton tee and my go-to Barely Boot jeans for a look that’s a little more relaxed but still pulled together.
These jeans are one of my most-worn styles from Talbots. They have just the right amount of stretch, and the subtle bootcut leg works beautifully with fall shoes…flats, loafers, low boots, you name it. This new Emma wash is clean and classic with no distressing, no trendy whiskering, and a finished hem. Just a straightforward, flattering jean you can wear absolutely anywhere.

I finished the look with simple black accessories (belt, bag, shoes)… and, of course, an umbrella, because fall seems to be settling in early this year. The tee is one of those basic cotton layers that makes everything else easier. It comes in a wide range of colors if you like to stock up…I tend to reach for black or white as my foundation and build from there.
This whole look is easy to wear, easy to repeat, and most importantly…it feels like me.
Soft and Neutral: Cozy Layers for Cooler Days

When the temperature drops a little more, or when I just want to feel wrapped in something soft, this outfit hits the right note. I’m wearing Talbots’ ribbed pointelle sweater in ivory, paired with their flare-leg stretch corduroy pants in Portobello, which might be my favorite neutral in the whole collection. It’s a cool taupe that goes with nearly everything in my closet, and it feels like a softer alternative to black or navy.
The sweater has a subtle all-over rib and delicate pointelle stitching that gives it a slightly feminine vibe, without being too precious. It’s light enough to layer under a jacket, but still warm enough to wear on its own. It looks great tucked, half-tucked, of left loose over the top of your pants.

These flare-leg corduroy pants are a great option if you’re looking for something both comfortable and flattering. The gentle flare helps balance proportions by skimming over the leg and drawing the eye down, which is especially helpful if you carry more through the hips or midsection. It creates a longer, leaner line without feeling dramatic.
Talbots always has a great selection of fun accessories each season, and this fall is no exception. Here’s what I found:
Dressing for fall doesn’t have to mean starting over. A few well-made layers, a touch of texture, and silhouettes that truly flatter…these are the pieces that carry you through the season with ease.
Talbots’ fall 2025 collection for grown women isn’t about chasing trends. It’s about feeling comfortable in your clothes and confident in how you show up, whether you’re heading out for coffee, running errands, or meeting friends for dinner. And don’t forget their Anniversary Event is on, so you will save 25% off your entire purchase!
Are you looking to add some lush textures to your look this fall?

Love the corduroy flares. I’m going to order those in at least one color😂
Thanks for the try-on. Like others, I am taken with the portobello color a lot.
I need a white (not ivory), but do you think a burgundy would look good as well?
Appreciate your work!
Their burgundy is gorgeous. Do you have cool undertones?
Yes. Burgundy is a good color for me as is white, but after the summer, I am kind of tired of white. Thanks for the input: i’m going to try a burgundy top with the portobello pants them.
I love your ponte pants column of color look as well.
So many nice things at Talbot’s this fall! I like their shoes. I ordered two pairs of loafers. At 25percent off, the price was right.
Loving the portobello cords. Heading to Talbots tomorrow to try them (hopefully bring them home) and see what other “damage” I can do. LOL. Now, if only Mother Nature would cooperate temperature-wise. Sigh….
The cords in Portabello are perfect for fall and winter. I find corduroy to be warmer than my jeans when the thermometer drops here in the mountains. Plus we always have a wind that chills me. My only pair of cords no longer fit since my ten pound weight loss seems to be in my hips and thighs. But once again, my 34” waist is my problem. Is the waist forgiving on these pants? I should wear a ten by their measurements but the waist wouldn’t close or would be so uncomfortable for me. I would have to drive up to Colorado Springs over 50 miles to a Talbots store.
The waist seems average to me. I wonder, have you tried the waistband extenders like this or this?
Absolutely gorgeous photo of you! In the cream sweater and portobello pants with the purse in the crook of your arm, the warm lighting in the photo shows the rich colors of the clothes, too.
Love all these looks and textures. The neutral outfit looks so pretty on you. I especially like all the sweaters.
Love Talbots so sad their brick and mortar near me was forced to close. Really hoping they relocate near here soon.
Jen, i love this post as you really hit the versatility of good foundational pieces by showing them on repeat. I like when you do that. Looks like you wear a petite in Talbot’s clothing.
I like how you posted the accessories, too. Easy to read and follow and shop.
Thank you SO much.
I do wear both petite and regular depending on the fit. It does seem like petites fit me best lately.
Love the wide leg pants but not mid rise 😩. I have a BD coupon that is about to expire-maybe I can find a top😊
I thought the pieces you wore from Talbots were beautiful and to my style, but I find I do not like Talbot’s clothing as much as in the past. I feel like they don’t look as crisp wash after wash. When I investigated the material of the clothes you wore, I found they were made of viscose, nylon and rayon. I feel these are cheaper materials or maybe I just don’t like wearing them as much. I like to wear good old cotton and polyester! It’s hard to find clothes made from these materials now!
love the flare leg in portobello. I think I would struggle with what color shoes/boots to wear with the portobello. Any suggestions? Thank you.
Black, brown, taupe, red, charcoal. Just about any color would work.
I get most of my clothing from Talbots. Modern and classic.
Just finished shopping at Talbots today! Loved their fall colors and styles this year! You have given me new idea combos in this post! Thanks!
Good morning Jennifer
I have several of the pieces you are sharing today. This fall, Talbots has out done themselves. Love the rich colors and the classic styling.
I am tall and pants from Talbot’s (and most other stores) are just too short for me. The best store for pants for taller ladies is White House Black Market. They have tall, curvy, and other options in their pants and jeans. All their clothes are very nice.
