Weekend Reading 09.20.25
Happy weekend, ladies! Ours promises to be sunny and cooler. I’m continuing to go through my summer things and packing some up for donation…like this skirt.

I loved it when it arrived, but I only wore it twice because I didn’t feel like myself in it. Just because something fits and you can look nice in it doesn’t mean it’s your style or that you should wear it. Many of the clothes I’m packing up were sent to me by brands, but a few were purchases that I now regret. It would be wonderful if every item I bought were a home run…but I’m not there yet.
Bestsellers you loved this week:
- I mentioned this bag in red suede, and readers loved it so much that it sold out in that color in a flash! This crossbody is also a great option, as is this one…and they’re both marked down. Here are a few more finds:
- These Malachite stud earrings were a huge bestseller last week. They’ll coordinate beautifully with so many of the rich fall colors I’m seeing.
- My favorite Charlotte Tilbury lip pencil. I don’t know the shades you bought, my favorites are Crazy in Love, Supersize Me, Pillow Talk Fair, and Pillow Talk.
- My Barely Boot jeans landed in many of your carts this week. These are my most-worn Talbots jeans, which I own in 3 washes.
- Many of you also added my most worn pairs of earrings, these Ippolita Tear Drops, and they’re now on sale!
Thank you so much for shopping through my links and helping to support my work! I truly appreciate you.
Weekend Sales:
ATHLETA has some of my favorites on sale. These Endless Pants have an elevated look, travel like a dream, and are as comfy as leggings or sweatpants.
CHICO’S: 25% off new arrivals, plus take $30 off your purchase of $15 or $50 off your purchase of $200+. They’re all about the animal print right now, and I can’t quit thinking about this cute Leopard Haircalf Braided Handbag. It would be a perfect way to level up this Relaxed Fit Button Cardigan paired with the Faux Suede Juliet Pants.

Winter will be here before you know it, how pretty is this kelly green Scarf Coat? Plus, you never have to worry about losing your scarf!

J.JILL: 30% off full price tops, jeans, and cords.
In case you missed it:
- Monday musings on neutrals, needles, and a little bit of madness.
- How to wear jewelry over 50 and look current.

What didn’t you enjoy wearing this summer? I’d love to hear.
Have a wonderful weekend and do something fun for yourself.

Jennifer, hang in there with the construction. We did a kitchen remodel that took forever and ever, and was such a mess and our refrigerator was in our living room?? Don’t even get me started on the construction dust, mess & clean up(or lack of). Hopefully you will be happy with the end results! I know this is a bit off topic, but I’ve been sorting summer into fall too, and what I’m seeing is scarfs again! On models, mentioned in posts, and shown as inspiration for a capsule travel wardrobe. BUT I have not seen anybody actually wear one other than a small bandana. Could you please help us all out with our little horded collection of scarves and show us how to wear these in the modern world? Thank you so much!!
I will! I’m excited to wear my scarves this fall. I find it important to not treat them as so precious. Toss them on and don’t fuss with them too much.
This is for you and anyone needing to cover stuff while work in your home gets done. Run to Home Depot, Rona, Home Hardware, etc. and buy a box of “Painter’s” plastic. The roll in the box goes for “miles” and is only about $25. It is a roll that will cover floor to ceiling, over furniture , over piles, etc. Roll out and cut off what you need then get the painter’s tape and stick it down….work in sections.
You will thank me later when that sticky pesky drywall dust is on the surface of the plastic not your stuff. When done just start to roll up the plastic dirt side in as you take down your “tent project”….the drywall dust clings to the outside of the plastic so if you are careful you can roll it all inside. Then recycle or throw out the plastic.
Brilliant! I’m so disappointed the Flooring company couldn’t be bothered to bring anything.
Sorry about the mess. You will enjoy your place better when all is done. I didn’t wear my Quince navy blue linen set until today. I walked the dog our mile and roasted at 67 degrees and a light breeze! I believe it is the dark color that the sun just felt so hot. I usually wear only light colored clothes. So thinking about this, maybe another year.
My problem is when I buy things that are for my imaginary lifestyle. Between a long WFH stretch and retirement my lifestyle has become extremely casual. My imaginary lifestyle is more social and less casual.
I think many of us stryggle with that
Wow! Still dealing with the carpet? What are they doing? 2 squares a day with very inexperienced installers? Ugh
I love the black cardi with the different buttons! I really don’t need another black sweater, but I’m very tempted.
I bought a white jacket that I really liked at the time. But, I never wore it. A little too dressy for every day activities, groceries, walking, volunteering, etc. Or, it was too warm for a jacket. I put it on Monday to go to the hospital. There was a little chill in the early morning air and I thought I should wear it at least once this season. Hopefully, I’ll wear it more next year. It might have been a mistake purchase which sometimes happens when shopping with a friend.
I think you might have liked the shirt if it was longer. It would look elegant dressed up with a nice top and heels.
Hi Jennifer,
Does anyone really hit a home-run with their clothing purchases EVERY time ?
If so, I am green with envy and they are my hero !
I am sorry for your continued construction. May you have your home back to yourself in the very near future.
I sure hope so Nancy
Love that patchwork jacket! If I didn’t already have a couple of patchwork pieces, I’d be on it. That is the kind of item I have been gravitating to: something unique but not over the top. Basically embroidery or patchwork, and both categories work for my suburban post-retirement lifestyle.
Good Morning Jennifer: To be honest, ever since I hauled home three bags of Fall clothing from the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale, I haven’t liked any of my Summer clothes. Every time I walk into my closet those beautiful Fall colors tease me. 🙂 Wanted to let you know, those Paul Green blue suede sneakers went on sale and I jumped on it. They arrived yesterday and I’m totally in love with those shoes. Totally! Question: I used your link to put those sneakers in my Nordstrom wish list. Once purchased, I’m hoping that means (like Amazon) that you get some credit for that?
Amazing! Thank you for letting us know.
I sure hope that the contractors do get finished🙏 They forgot drop-cloths…lame. The turmoil of that is stressful. Really enjoy your blog.
Incredibly dumb that they didn’t bring them.
I want to thank you for posting the sale on Athleta’s Endless Pant. I just ordered this pant last week for the full price. Your email made me aware of a sale that will save me $40.00. I plan to return and reorder at sale price!
Enjoy your emails!
I
Yay!
Good morning! How is your skin treatment going? I just recently finished my 3rd round of Potenza a micro-needling treatment. I think it made good improvement on the fine muzzle lines. It did not tighten my jowls and neck as much as I had hoped. Hopefully as it does it’s job I’ll see more improvement.
I am trying your Symbiotic and I think it’s working very well. Thank you for the tip.
I’m healed but the doctor tells me the results won’t show for several months. I like it too! And the company is so careful with their ingredients
I’m sorry you are having to deal with all of the construction mess.
I’m trying to keep my sense of humor about it. 🥴
I suggest you look at a company called Baleaf. No, I am not paid to promote them, but their joggers, which I use as travel pants, are the best I have ever seen. They have deep side pockets (not patch pockets -inset pockets) with zippers! I can travel abroad with these and not even carry a bag. The last time I carried a bag during overseas travel, I was knocked down in the Uffizi Gallery! I own six pairs! You can order directly from the company. They are efficient and courteous.
I have a pair of them too and love them
Good morning. I bought a skirt this summer that I didn’t wear at all. I think I just couldn’t find a top I liked with it. It’s still cute so I might save it for next year. I don’t care for summer clothes so I don’t really buy much. I’m really looking forward to fall 🍁
Your post reminds me that this is a good time to go through summer clothes and cull things I didn’t wear and pull any Ts or tanks that are looking tired (whites, especially, seem to look dingy quickly).
