Modern Classics From Nordstrom Rack

I consider cotton gauze a modern classic for summer. It breathes, has a lovely texture, and never requires ironing. Those are the features I love that make summer dressing easy. I bought several little cotton gauze shirts by this C & C California brand at Nordstrom Rack last summer and wore the heck out of them. When I spotted this little dress, I thought it looked like a smart buy, and it is!
I’m able to easily dress this up for a nice lunch out or toss it on with some sneakers for a casual day of hitting the local Farmers Market and general running around. It has a very slight shirttail hemline and a self-belt you could easily replace. It comes in sizes XS-L and runs true to size. The texture of the fabric softens the black to a deep charcoal. Lightweight cardigans are another classic in my wardrobe. I’ve been a fan of T Tahari for its modern styling and great quality for many years, and this striped cardigan is no exception. The spread collar makes it appear as a cross between a cardigan and a knit jacket. Its hip length will make it a versatile third layer over many outfits.
This cardigan comes in five solid colors and three stripes. I bought the soft white with narrow black stripes which will go with everything I own. You’ll also notice how nicely the stripes match across the front and the sleeves, which is an attention to detail I really appreciate.
Sport sneakers continue to be the rage, and my feet hope that trend sticks around for a long time. They are now a modern classic look with everything from jeans to summer skirts. I bought these Aretha clean-lined, low-top sneakers in soft grey and white to go with all my cool-toned clothes. They also come in a pale beige and white with plenty of cushioning, and I found they run true to size.
A lightweight crossbody handbag is another modern classic in my wardrobe these days. With my busy lifestyle, I often don’t want the hassle of carrying a bag.
This Madewell small woven transport bag is large enough to hold daily essentials but small enough to be lightweight and goes from handheld to crossbody in a flash.
These Madewell wide-leg crop jeans are super comfy with a high rise and a 27″ inseam, which means I’ll be able to tuck my ankle boots up under the hem in the fall. The fabric is 99% cotton with 1% elastane, so they’re low stretch and hold their shape. Mid-wash jeans will always be classic, and the wide-leg is its most modern interpretation.
Cashmere is high on my list of wardrobe essentials, and when styled in a cozy hoody, it becomes a modern, classic athleisure piece. This T Tahari cashmere hoodie is incredibly soft and lightweight for summer. This also comes in a warm olive color, but I could not resist this soft grey, which is one of my very favorite neutral shades. I love finding cashmere at a great price, and Nordstrom Rack has a fabulous assortment.

I’m thinking about ordering the T Tahari cardigan, but am not sure about what size to order since I have short arms. I typically wear a PM in Talbots sweaters and tops. Did you find that the arms on this cardigan run long?
The sleeves are on the long side so you would have to fild them up like I did.

You look great in everything here, Jennifer. I am thinking I may need a couple of those T Tahari cardigans. I see you purchased the small size. Based on the listed size guide I would probably need a size medium as I normally wear size 6 or 8 and wear a bra band size 35. What is your opinion of the size small fit? It looks perfect on you.

Yes, it is. I’m an ash blonde and it works well for me.
