Leveling Up Flannel and Fleece for Fall from Frank & Eileen
This post is sponsored by Frank & Eileen. Thanks for supporting the brands that work with AWSL.
Fall is upon us here in Northern California, and I’m loving the cool air. This is my favorite season to get dressed for because I get to play with layers. Layering allows me to create outfits that adjust for cool mornings and warm afternoons, plus it adds interest to my outfits.

DERRY ILLUSION PULL-ON JEAN size 29 c/o
Just in time for the chocolate color trend this fall, Frank & Eileen delivered some terrific pieces that I’m excited to add to my wardrobe! They’re soft shading feels perfect for this time of year and coordinates with so much I already own.

This Patrick Popover is a perfect layer to drape around my shoulders and then pull over whatever I’m wearing when I need a bit more warmth. I love the v-neck and sporty vibe of this top with its slightly cropped length and long sleeves.
It’s made from their amazing cotton triple fleece fabric, which I wear year-round because it’s cozy but not hot and feels so good against the skin. The color is called Irish Chocolate, but if brown isn’t your thing, this top also comes in eight other fleece colors and five jersey colors.

I’m wearing it over this Eileen button-up in the softest 100% cotton Italian Flannel that’s made right here in California. When my husband felt my shirt, he asked if they made shirts in his size! The Eileen style comes in tons of fabrics, and this flannel comes in 22 colors, many of which are plaids. I’m wearing the gray and tan with white plaid. They’re the perfect blend of cozy and comfy with an elevated feel.
Notice how the top button hits at the widest part of my chest, which we discussed here Simple Tips To Guarantee Your Clothes Fit Properly. This prevents the button gaping so many of us struggle with and is the sign of a well-designed garment.

PATRICK POPOVER HENLEY size S c/o
I’ve leveled up the look of the flannel shirt with the Donnybrook denim skirt I bought last summer. It’s made from an Italian Vintage denim, that is 98% cotton with 2% Elastane which gives it the perfect amount of stretch. I wore it with sandals and a tee last summer and am thrilled to be wearing it with knee boots and a suede belt this fall.

I also love the way this gray and tan with white plaid coordinates with this white Belfast Jacket. This jacket is the same triple fleece in a great tailored shape with patch pockets and double-breasted styling that just takes the look up a notch. You’ve seen me wear my Mini Belfast many, many times. In short, I love it and reach for it often because it’s the perfect weight over so many things. The mini also comes in a vintage white, which I’ve just added to my cart :).

Here, I’ve layered the Belfast jacket over my Eileen button-up in stonewashed denim with the Derry Illusion jeans in black. These are a pull-on style jean with slim-straight legs and a wide elastic, contoured waistband that lays nice and flat. Since they have a frayed bottom, I simply snipped 2″ off the legs to get the perfect ankle length. This shape is a nice change from the wider legs we’re seeing everywhere this season.
MORE GREAT FLANNEL AND FLEECE

Are you embracing layers this time of year?

I love all these looks, price point is a bit over my budget. I am starting to embrace the chocolate brown trend….I have one sweater from last year and am amazed how flattering this color is, I have light brown hair and very fair skin…by the way your hair looks great. So happy that fall has finally arrived to Northern Cal…..
I’m delightfully surprised by how much I’m loving the chocolate and cocoa colors.
You got me hooked on Frank and Eileen, and I LOVE the brand! I love how comfy every piece is. Thanks for giving us such good advice on looking stylish as we age.
I’m rather hooked on them too!
The seamstress in me can not get comfortable with those frayed edges. It makes me think they saved some money constructing their pieces, yet they charge at the top end for what they are. I notice several bloggers are promoting this brand, but I’m not going to bite.
I think it was a deliberate styling decision for the vibe it gives.
Do like the styles and prefer the label over E.F.’s however will unfortunately have to pass until our Canadian $ has more value. -Brenda-
I do enjoy your fashion suggestions. They really provide great inspiration. But I have to admit that paying $248 for a flannel shirt seems a bit much. I’ve added up the cost of many of your beautiful ensembles and they usually come to $600 – $700. How does anyone afford to pay so much? I understand purchasing the basic pieces and switching them out. Regardless, thanks for sharing your fashion sense. I do appreciate it!
All women’s budgets vary and for some, these are not expensive prices. Similar looks can certainly be gotten with lower price points.
Hi Jennifer,
Beautiful Frank and Eileen clothes, l really love the brand and l have the Patrick in red and a green flannel plaid shirt which is so deliciously warm and comfy. I have my eye on this gorgeous chocolate Patrick, though l wish they would give a discount code to your readers as every bit helps. You look fabulous Jennifer love your choices!!
This Patrick is fabulous! I will keep an eye out to see if they have a flash sale.
Thank you !! You are the best xo
Love the looks and that they can be duplicated for a lot less money. LL Bean, for ex., has flannel shirts in different weights and great colors, and most retailers, including those with a sustainability focus, have nice v-necks. Here in New England, I wear cotton tops under my flannel shirts, and a sweater or quilted vest over the shirt. I love what F&E are trying to accomplish, but until they make petite sizes, I can’t even consider them.
That’s a great point, Maeve. We all have varying budgets that we need to shop within and these looks can be recreated at almost any price point. I hope my styling offers inspiration for ways to pair things as well. Wearing the flannel open over a nice tee is a great idea!
You make flannel and fleece look so great. I love both.
Jennifer, I absolutely love you in the denim skirt and that mini belfast is on my list! Thx! Terry
Thank you! I love this outfit too.
Jennifer, you make casual wear looks so stylish. I love everything you have on in this post. I love layers and I love flannel and fleece. These pieces are beautiful! How does the fleece wash up? It seems with some fleece, they lose their softness once washed.
This fleece is the best I’ve ever felt. I’ve washed my navy Belfast over and over and it’s still incredibly soft. It comes out of my dryer looking and feeling fabulous!
Here in Louisiana it’s still too warm for me to layer. I’m wondering if I will ever be able to wear my sweaters!! Thank you for always showing me how to dress & the cool colors. I appreciate you!
I appreciate you too Paula. Thank you!
While the outfits are cute and casual they surely can be duplicated at better price points. A sweater + shirt + jean skirt for $1,000?
The look can certainly be dupicated to fit any budget, and I encourage women to shop within their own.
I love Frank & Eileen clothing as well. It’s not inexpensive but EVERY piece I own is flattering, whether it’s a more fitted shirt or the shirt dress ( own linen & denim). Don’t get me started on how great the billion dollar pants are! Thanks for featuring- you look great.
I’ve been eyeing those billion dollar pants. Did you need to size up?
