The Best New Colors From J. Jill For Spring 2025

J. Jill’s latest collection just dropped last week, so I popped in to try it on. To be honest, I raced in because I spotted some gorgeous new colors that looked exciting for spring. The colors are vibrant, soft, and just plain pretty in this collection.

If you’re new here, a try-on is exactly what it sounds like. I go into a store and style some of their latest collection so readers can see what things look like on a woman over 50 rather than on a young model. I share some sizing tips and styling ideas for how you could wear them. For size reference, I’m 5’4″, which puts me on the cusp of petite. I have broad shoulders and straight hips with few curves. J. Jill carries sizes reg, petite, and some talls in sizes XS-4X. I usually reach for petite first but do shop in all sections for the best fit.

CONTRASTING DETAILS SWEATER size S / AUTHENTIC FIT SLIM LEG JEANS size 6

The store was a riot of soft and bright colors for spring. These slim-leg jeans in Iced Mauve caught my attention on the front table. Soft rose is predicted to be a popular color this season, and these come pretty close.

*Sizing info– This regular length has a 29″ inseam, which is too long for me. A narrow leg like this looks better at or slightly above the ankle, so a petite would be a better fit on me with an inseam of 27″.

This sweater seems to have evaporated into thin air off the J. Jill website. They are one of the most frustrating brands to do these try-ons for because they often change the links with no warning.

KNIT CAMP SHIRT size S / WIDE LEG VINTAGE WASH JEANS size 8P / KNIT DOUBLE-BREASTED PEACOAT size S

I had a J. Jill Knit Camp shirt very similar to this one several years ago and found it an invaluable piece in my travel wardrobe. This is a 100% cotton knit that comes in 3 shades and has a lovely amount of stretch, which makes this a very comfy shirt. It runs true to size.

I’m styling it with these wide leg vintage wash jeans. They’re a cotton blend with tencel and spandex, which makes them very soft and comfy. I sized up to an 8P, which has an inseam of 29″. These also come in tall with an inseam of 34.5″. Because the pants have a wide leg, I’d prefer a shorter and slimmer top. These do run true to size, but I sized up for a slouchier fit.

This Knit double-breasted peacoat is a cotton spandex blend with a stand collar in navy with horn-colored buttons. This classy-looking jacket is cozy and has a great weight going forward into spring. This ran large and long on me, so it runs true to size, and I need the petite…which seems only available online.

QUIET LUXURY COLOR MIX SWEATER size S / SLIM ANKLE JEANS size 6P

This light magenta sweater is labeled “quiet luxury”, which strikes me as strange because it’s not a neutral. At any rate, it’s a pretty melange of pinks with purple in a cotton blend with a reverse stocking knit stitch that drapes nicely. It has a soft cowl neck and also comes in a fresh light green, which they call banana leaf. I love that this has set-in sleeves, which makes for a slimmer silhouette.

These are the same slim ankle jeans I showed above in Mauve. You can see here how the petite is a much better length for a slim pants. These will be best with a lower flat or sneakers. If it’s still cold where you live, add some fun socks that match the color of your shoe.

MILITARY PEPLUM JACKET size S / KNIT CAMP SHIRT size S / HIGH RISE PATCH POCKET JEANS size 6

This Military Peplum Jacket was displayed prominently in the front of my store. The color is Light Barley. It’s a cotton chino blend with Tencel and woven spandex, so it has a nice stretch. This is not your average chino jacket by a long shot. It has a sassy pleated peplum with a raw hem and gold buttons to give it the military vibe. This ran large on me, so I suspect the petite would be perfect (also only online),

I went for a column of color for this look so the jacket could take center stage. I layered the jacket over the knit camp shirt in cream and added these high rise patch pocket jeans in the light vintage canvas color. These also come in 2 other washes. The leg bottoms of these were cuffed up twice, which I unfolded once. To be honest, I’d prefer pants without cuffs here because the jacket has so much going on. I like the color combo but would prefer these demi boot jeans for a sleeker combination in this outfit.

WEAREVER FINE TEXTURE DOLMAN TOP size S / BORDER PRINTED SCARF / KNIT CARGO PANTS size S

I was surprised to read this is a Dolman top because it doesn’t have lots of extra fabric under the arm…so I’d describe it as a subtle Dolman. I’m wearing the plum, and it also comes in gray or strawberry pink. The neckline is a slight boatneck shape, which, combined with the subtle dolman, would be flattering on women with narrow shoulders and broader hips. The knit is refined and would layer under things easily. I popped on this border printed scarf in shades of navy and white with tiny pops of the violet color from the sweater. J. Jill always has great scarves each season.

These knit cargo pants in navy blue are super comfy with a pull-on style featuring a faux fly and real belt loops. The fabric is a substantial knit that feels similar to ponte. They call it “an elegant interpretation of a key trend”. I love the elevated look, which will allow more women to try it.

*Fit Tip – the placement of cargo pockets can be problematic for women who carry extra weight in their hips and thighs. I’m not saying this is a bad thing because I believe we should wear what we love. Just know the pocket detail draws the eye, so be sure you’re comfortable with it.

WEAREVER COLLARED WAFFLE TOP size S / BORDER PRINTED SCARF / KNIT DOUBLE-BREASTED PEACOAT size S /SLIM ANKLE JEANS size 8P

This polo collared shirt is made of waffle knit, cotton blend fabric that is as soft and cozy as your favorite PJs. The colors (3 of them) have a speckled look, which gives it a more relaxed vibe. I’m wearing the violet shade, which has less intensity because of the speckling. I went up a size in the slim jeans here, and I think I prefer the 8P because the legs don’t cling as much as the 6P. Both fit, but it’s a matter of how they drape on my body. They are also a “hair” longer in this size, which I like because I’m on the cusp of petite.

I love this combo of navy peacoat with a colorful scarf and simple denim jeans. It’s a very wearable look you could finish off with some comfy navy loafers, an easy tote bag, and a pair of modern earrings.

What colors are you gravitating to this spring?

  1. I enjoy the fact that you share what you wear everyday. It makes your post a reflection of you.
You look outstanding in the pink sweater and jeans outfit, as well as the purple sweater and navy purple scarf with navy pants.
    Enjoy your post!

  2. Our temperatures have slowly climbed to 46 but even with the sun, our cold wind over the snow on the ground is very cold on dog walks. I love the rose outfit! You look lovely in it and very slim! That 11 pounds is looking good and healthy for your joints. I’m down 8 and holding. I also love the purple sweater and scarf outfit. What is with the 29” inseams on petite jeans! I’m 5’1” and have to shorten them to 27” or drag on the ground and take a chance of tripping and falling.

I was just at J Jill myself yesterday (after a stop at Eileen Fisher, which was “only to try on two ordered items and return if not as cute on as on the website” – you know THAT story…LOL……walked out with the new Ponte lantern pant (perfect on hippy (not ‘70s hippy, the other kind LOL) me AND a nifty sparsely sparkly sweater) …..oh, back to J Jill. It was full of their new spring line, but absolutely NOTHING was good on a “winter” like myself….even the pale pale gray sweater tunic totally washed me out. . I wish there would be a fuller range of “all-season” colors. It seems that us winters get forgotten for spring and summer. Sad. “JJ Jill” as Ed calls it is my favorite store, especially since I can call the store have them do the catalog order (free shipping!).
Getting ready for three BIG trips this year/next so trying to maximize my capsule wardrobe to fit in one/two suitcase(s).

  4. Love the colors of the sweaters, I wish though that there were a few options for v-neck. I don’t look good in a round neck. The peacoat I do want to check out. An alternative the the Frank & Eileen that I can’t afford. Great colors for spring.

  5. The beach plum sweater is so vibrant! It looks wonderful on you!
I plan to order it along with the scarf and waffle top. I have never really accessorized with scarves. Can you please share some suggestions? I truly enjoy your blog. It has helped me so much.
    Thank you

    1. I will share some more scarf ideas soon

I’m loving the colours on you!
I looked at my closet the other day and everything is black or navy!
I’ve ordered a pretty pink cotton sweater!
    I love your blog Jennifer.

    1. That pink will brighten up all your neutrals! Thanks Dianne

  7. I love the plum and magenta colors. I am still loving green and have several pieces I am looking forward to wearing. Is green still popular this year? I love you in the waffle shirt/sweater, scarf and peacoat. It is relaxed and polished.

    1. Green is always poplular if you love it. Colors do trend, but they seldom look dated.

  8. You are looking especially svelte in these pictures! It also seems you are now in smaller sizes. You look great! How much weight have you lost?

    1. Thanks so much! I’ve lost 11 pounds and am holding. Any more and my face will look haggard. I will say, my feet and hips are much happier at this weight.

You always look so polished and put together no matter what the outfit, but was wondering if you could share a few tips about scarves and how to tie them for those of us less gifted in that area? I always just seem to end up looking frumpy!

    1. I will share some scarf ideas soon. Thanks for the idea.

  10. I love the beautiful pinks coming out for Spring! Thanks for such a comprehensive look at JJill, they are one of my favorite brands.

    1. This is a lovely collection

  11. Love the plum sweater with a scarf. So pretty. I like that the rose color pink is in this spring 🩷

  12. The plum sweater color is so flattering on you. Love your posts.

  13. Thank you for your blog. I really like all the outfits but I really like the pinkish roll neck sweater on you. You look great in the purples. Have a wonderful day. It is -8 here but sunny.

    1. Ouch!! Crazy cold. Stay warm and cozy Rory.

  14. I love these sweaters. They look polished comfortable and the colors are beautiful.

  15. This is a very helpful post, Jennifer! We don’t have the same body shape (I lean toward a pear-shaped silhouette), but we’re the same height, dress in many of the same colors, and I just love your style. Naturally, you are my favorite blogger! I find JJill clothing fits me very well, so I have quite a bit of it, and am always looking for ways to style it. Now I have some new ideas. I am going to try some of the light pink items. And that navy peacoat is fantastic – I have already ordered the option you provided in yesterday’s blog, but I may also try on JJill’s option as well. This was just what I needed (as well as yesterday’s excellent post) to jump-start my planning for my spring wardrobe!

    1. I’m so happy to hear these posts were helpful! Have fun playing with your wardrobe.

  16. Your hair looks great and your Pilates exercise is definitely working everything looks great on you. Thank you for sharing JJill’s new collection with our cold temps the pretty colors remind you spring is coming.

  17. So glad to see you featuring JJill. I have recently transitioned to them after being a faithful Talbots buyer for over 24 years. Talbots quality went down so much, which forced the change. I find the sizing at JJill to be so overly generous that I can’t quite figure it out. Any suggestions about which line runs truer to size? Thanks.

    1. Each brand seems to have unique sizing which differ from each other. I find many of J Jill’s styles are less structured which makes them feel bigger.

  18. Love the plum dolman top with the beautiful navy scarf! This is a great look on you and will be on my wish list!

  19. All the outfits look really cute!

  20. Help! I know spring is coming but it just snowed Monday am, and its about 10 degrees temp and a lower wind chill today! Its just hard for me to think of spring colors ill gravitate toward. (Maybe blue or green. )But, you look great in the spring line at JJill.

    1. Wow, stay warm and cozy Paulette!
