Ann Taylor Fall 2025 Try-On: Jackets, Jeans & Sweaters Over 50
In case you’ve noticed, I’ve been doing more dressing room try-ons lately. With so many new fall collections hitting the stores at once, I want you to see the options before you decide what might work for your wardrobe.
This week I stopped at Ann Taylor for a Fall 2025 try-on. Their petite section was small, but I still found a handful of jackets, jeans, and sweaters worth sharing.

If you’re new here, welcome. A try-on is when I pop into a store and style pieces from the latest collection so you can see how they look on a real woman over 50. I share sizing tips, fit impressions, and ideas for how to wear them. I’m 5’4″, on the cusp of petite, with broad shoulders and straight hips. Ann Taylor carries both career and casual clothes in sizes 00 – 18 in regular, petite, and some talls. They also carry pants in curvy and straight fit. You can find my other try-ons here.

I spotted this croc tectured bag on the front table. It’s luxe texture and quiet luxury vibe set the tone for everything else I saw.

The first thing I spotted from the door was this tweed crew neck blazer. The pretty blue is refreshing for fall and a welcome change from orange and rust if you have a cool-toned complexion. Check out How to Determine If You Have a Warm or Cool Undertone.
It has a boxy shape, and the belt seems awkward so I’d remove it and possibly wear it with jeans. The blazer runs large, so size down unless you plan to layer it over a turtleneck, etc.
The patch pocket jeans are a soft blend of cotton, lyocel, and spandex, which gives them stretch and makes them very soft and comfortable. They have classic 5-pocket styling with a front zip and belt loops.
FYI- I wouldn’t intentionally style this blazer with these jeans because the front pockets show below the jacket…but they were in the dressing room with me and I liked the shades together.

I’ve been buying this Ann Cardigan in various colors for years. It’s a classic shape you can wear on its own or open over a blouse. This is the chocolate, and it also comes in lots of other colors. The Trouser jeans fit beautifully, with a nice, deep wash that’s perfect for fall and a slightly tailored look that elevates the look. These would be great dressed up with a nice blazer and suede booties for fall or work now with a simple tee and sneakers.

The Eva ankle pants live up to their reputation — slim, slightly cropped, and they don’t bag out after an hour. Comfortable stretch without the “leggings in disguise” look.
The textured cardigan is fitted and polished, a step up from a weekend layer. I tried it in the faded denim shade, but it comes in other colors if blue isn’t your thing. Underneath is the matching sweater tee with elbow sleeves (my favorite length). Together, they make an easy set you could wear with sneakers or dress up with loafers.

Here’s the same cardigan in the lavender petal shade which is such a fun option for fall. I’m wearing it over their square neck tank in the same color. This is a great layering piece in a very stretchy, and substantial knit. It comes in regular and petite in 11 colors.

This mock neck pullover is a machine washable cotton blend with an allover intricate pointelle pattern. I’m wearing the lakeside blue color and it also comes in two other soft shades. It’s a heavier weight sweater to layer over other things but too bulky under a blazer.
The wide leg jeans I’m wearing are black, which seems sold out on the website but they are available in lighter blue wash here. Wide leg jeans and pants are really coming on strong for fall so I expect styles to sell out then hopefully be restocked.
MORE FROM ANN TAYLOR
What I thought about Ann Taylor’s Fall 2025 Collection
Ann Taylor used to feel like the place you’d shop before a big meeting. This fall, it’s more about polished casual with clothes you can wear to lunch, errands, or a casual dinner without feeling overdressed.
The collection leans heavily warm (pumpkin, camel, golden brown). On me, those shades say “flu season,” but happily, there are cool-toned options like lavender and blue if rust isn’t your best friend.
Overall, the fabrics felt comfortable, the fits were consistent, and nothing screamed “trend of the week.” These are clothes you can live in that are neat, polished, but still casual enough for everyday.
Why This Matters
Most of us live casual lives. We don’t need clothes that only work for boardrooms or parties we never go to. What we do need are pieces that look pulled together without being fussy. Ann Taylor is leaning into that balance this fall, which makes updating your wardrobe a little easier.
Have you peeked at Ann Taylor lately?

I used to wear beige to get out of work, everyone said I didn’t look well, and I didn’t.. color is interesting!
It is so nice to see some cool colors! The warm colors make me look sick as well. I love the blue and the lavender on you and I can wear both. Thank you for your try on.
I love love love what you showed us today Jennifer! The textures & colours say “forever” as they don’t appear dated. The patterns add a fresh look on what we’d consider staples in our wardrobe!
Well done & thank you! You look great in each & every photo!
Regards
Nancy
I agree. They’re timeless and modern
Great collection…love the trouser jeans…good question to ponder, why is the lighting in dressing rooms so awful. I always look like I dragged myself out with a bad case of the flu?
Very humid today in the Bay Area……have a great week!
Great question! Lighting is so important you’d think they would pay better attention to it
You buy several items in size small. What is your weight?
I am trying these on for readers to see, not purchasing them. I have straighjt hips and a no curves, so I carry my weight up top. I weigh around 143
Love your comment about pumpkin and lavender. I look best in warm tones and once I was playing golf with a woman who was wearing a lavender shirt and I told her that it was one of my favorite colors, when I was in high school I had my bedroom painted lavender. But it wasn’t flattering on me. I was wearing orange, she told me that when her kids were little and she worked in a doctors office, if she needed to get off work early, like for a school pageant, she has an orange top she would wear, and coworkers would ask her if she was feeling OK. And finally in mid-afternoon she would tell them she wasn’t feeling well, they were right all along, and she had to go home.
Hilarious!
I like the lavender jacket and tank.
I have a hard time with patch pockets. I can’t put anything in them without the pocket puckering out and not lying flat, not even that trusty tissue I seem to carry all the time. I just pass over these unless they have deep back pockets, which can be hard to find in petite sizes.
Jennifer, I just can’t help it! I do not like wide-leg jeans! Any brand! They just remind me of being weighed down. To each his own, right?
Then absolutely you should not wear them. Personal taste is supposed to reflect you! Luckily we have lots of options
Great post. Haven’t been to AT for the reason you mentioned; I have a casual lifestyle now. These are nice selections. The lavender and the lakeside blue color are beautiful on you. As you mention, the “usual “ fall colors say flu season to you, I look like I’m suffering from the flu in those colors 😂 and people ask if I feel okay !! What a difference our undertones make.
Thanks for this post.
We don’t have an Ann Taylor any longer but I always loved the store. It did seem more for work clothes but these jackets and sweaters would look great with jeans. The colors looked so nice on you. I’m really having trouble embracing the wide leg pants look. What should we do with all our skinny jeans? I have so many!!
True skinny jeans have not been in style for many years, but they will likely come back at some point. If you do not like wide legs, don’t wear them.
I’m so glad you’ve featured Ann Taylor! The quality is really nice and the styles are current without being over the top trendy. Shorter tops, for example, rather than so many tunics we see at other stores that cater to our age group.
Did you happen to notice anything in the color Cherry Red? I have my eye on the Whipstitch Sweater, but don’t have an AT store near me to check it out in person. I’m wondering whether it’s a cool or warm tone red. I do wish they had a way to ask questions about individual garments the way the J.Jill site does.
I did not see that red but I loved my try on and will be back to check it out.
Love the cardigans you found. Great timeless pieces. Thank you for stepping in the stores to look things over for us.
Good Morning Jennifer. I love how you remind us of little details like not wearing the “blazer with these jeans because the front pockets show below the jacket” Since I’ve retired I’ve not popped into Ann Taylor for a few years. Thanks for the preview of their casual clothes.
I was pleasantly surprised
I felt that that over my career, attire moved from tailored skirt suits to black skirts with jackets to black pants with jackets to business casual which usually meant sweater sets. I’ve been retired for a number of years and over the years I have retired my many cardigans. I have never seen as many sweater sets in fall clothes as there are this year. I am not sure what that says. Is it just a trend, or are we slowly moving back to less casual dressing?
They are a classic that always circles back in style…but did they ever go out?
I’m crazy for all the brown this fall. I especially like a nice cardigan and matching shell. Great choices today
I haven’t been in Ann Taylor but I really like these looks. And in petite!
I wish I liked jeans more than I do, but I just don’t. I have a couple pair but it’s just a too casual of a vibe for me for most of my style. I do like the tops you showed and it was nice to see some of them styled in other ways than denim.
I’m looking forward to nice fall colors. Also, I really loved all the raspberry reds you showed yesterday!
Good luck with the work going on in your Vancouver flat. I have been in that awful living situation too, which is not a nice thing to live through. At all.
I liked all your styles. I haven’t bought anything new yet, but I cannot wait to go out shopping.
The blue stitch sweater with matching tee is beautiful!
