Ann Taylor Fall 2025 Try-On: Jackets, Jeans & Sweaters Over 50

In case you’ve noticed, I’ve been doing more dressing room try-ons lately. With so many new fall collections hitting the stores at once, I want you to see the options before you decide what might work for your wardrobe.

This week I stopped at Ann Taylor for a Fall 2025 try-on. Their petite section was small, but I still found a handful of jackets, jeans, and sweaters worth sharing.

If you’re new here, welcome. A try-on is when I pop into a store and style pieces from the latest collection so you can see how they look on a real woman over 50. I share sizing tips, fit impressions, and ideas for how to wear them. I’m 5’4″, on the cusp of petite, with broad shoulders and straight hips. Ann Taylor carries both career and casual clothes in sizes 00 – 18 in regular, petite, and some talls. They also carry pants in curvy and straight fit. You can find my other try-ons here.

CROCO LARGE TOP HANDLE BAG

I spotted this croc tectured bag on the front table. It’s luxe texture and quiet luxury vibe set the tone for everything else I saw.

BELTED TWEED CREW NECK JACKET size 8 / WEEKEND COLLECTION PATCH POCKET JEANS size 6

The first thing I spotted from the door was this tweed crew neck blazer. The pretty blue is refreshing for fall and a welcome change from orange and rust if you have a cool-toned complexion. Check out How to Determine If You Have a Warm or Cool Undertone.

It has a boxy shape, and the belt seems awkward so I’d remove it and possibly wear it with jeans. The blazer runs large, so size down unless you plan to layer it over a turtleneck, etc.

The patch pocket jeans are a soft blend of cotton, lyocel, and spandex, which gives them stretch and makes them very soft and comfortable. They have classic 5-pocket styling with a front zip and belt loops.

FYI- I wouldn’t intentionally style this blazer with these jeans because the front pockets show below the jacket…but they were in the dressing room with me and I liked the shades together.

ANN CARDIGAN size S / BOATNECK SHELL size M petite / TROUSER JEANS size 8 petite

I’ve been buying this Ann Cardigan in various colors for years. It’s a classic shape you can wear on its own or open over a blouse. This is the chocolate, and it also comes in lots of other colors. The Trouser jeans fit beautifully, with a nice, deep wash that’s perfect for fall and a slightly tailored look that elevates the look. These would be great dressed up with a nice blazer and suede booties for fall or work now with a simple tee and sneakers.

STITCH SWEATER TEE size M / TEXTURED CARDIGAN size M / EVA SLIM ANKLE PANTS size 6

The Eva ankle pants live up to their reputation — slim, slightly cropped, and they don’t bag out after an hour. Comfortable stretch without the “leggings in disguise” look.

The textured cardigan is fitted and polished, a step up from a weekend layer. I tried it in the faded denim shade, but it comes in other colors if blue isn’t your thing. Underneath is the matching sweater tee with elbow sleeves (my favorite length). Together, they make an easy set you could wear with sneakers or dress up with loafers.

TEXTURED CARDIGAN size M / SQUARE NECK TANK TOP size M / TROUSER JEANS size 8 petite

Here’s the same cardigan in the lavender petal shade which is such a fun option for fall. I’m wearing it over their square neck tank in the same color. This is a great layering piece in a very stretchy, and substantial knit. It comes in regular and petite in 11 colors.

POINTELLE MOCK NECK SWEATER size M / WIDE LEG JEAN size 8 petite

This mock neck pullover is a machine washable cotton blend with an allover intricate pointelle pattern. I’m wearing the lakeside blue color and it also comes in two other soft shades. It’s a heavier weight sweater to layer over other things but too bulky under a blazer.

The wide leg jeans I’m wearing are black, which seems sold out on the website but they are available in lighter blue wash here. Wide leg jeans and pants are really coming on strong for fall so I expect styles to sell out then hopefully be restocked.

MORE FROM ANN TAYLOR

What I thought about Ann Taylor’s Fall 2025 Collection

Ann Taylor used to feel like the place you’d shop before a big meeting. This fall, it’s more about polished casual with clothes you can wear to lunch, errands, or a casual dinner without feeling overdressed.

The collection leans heavily warm (pumpkin, camel, golden brown). On me, those shades say “flu season,” but happily, there are cool-toned options like lavender and blue if rust isn’t your best friend.

Overall, the fabrics felt comfortable, the fits were consistent, and nothing screamed “trend of the week.” These are clothes you can live in that are neat, polished, but still casual enough for everyday.

Why This Matters

Most of us live casual lives. We don’t need clothes that only work for boardrooms or parties we never go to. What we do need are pieces that look pulled together without being fussy. Ann Taylor is leaning into that balance this fall, which makes updating your wardrobe a little easier.

  1. You look great in the textured lavender as well as the wide leg pants!

  2. I love when you do dressing room try ons. You look great in all of the outfits. Right now, I’m not liking the cropped look for sweaters or tops. So I’m not seeing anything that I’d like to buy.

I liked the blue mock neck sweater. Ann Taylor isn’t a store I shop at. I really should give it another chance.

  4. Such good finds – I really do hate trying on clothing and you do all the work for us
Thank you and you look amazing in every style

  5. Thank you for this try-on/review. It has been some time since I have stepped into AT as I have always considered it more business dress and working from home, more casual clothing is preferred. I love the colors for us cool toned women they are carrying. Thanks to you, I will stop in the one near me and check it out.

  6. This is great, Jennifer! I’ve been eyeing a few items at AT but, not having shopped there in a long time, I wasn’t sure about sizing.
I want a cardigan that I can button up and wear alone. Love the brown one. Would you be able to button that up with no pulling or would a medium work better? Not sure about sizing.
    Wonderful try on….thanks!

    1. I’d probably go for the medium just to give me a big of extra room
