Best Wearable 2024 Fall Fashion Trends
As we age, many women tend to fall into either the trap of adding too many trends to their looks or not enough. It can often feel a bit like Goldilocks’ hunt for “just right”. Remaining true to your core aesthetic while adding a sprinkling of new trends is usually the most successful formula for finding the best wearable fall fashion trends.
To be clear, you certainly don’t need to incorporate trends into your wardrobe after 50, but they can help to keep your look modern, which keeps you looking relevant.
If you want to dabble in fall trends, I suggest you add one piece or a nod to a trend. If this is the year that many trends appeal to you, go for it, but keep your body silhouette in mind so you choose flattering shapes. If a specific color is a trend, and it’s not flattering to your complexion, try adding a touch of it in an accessory away from your face. 2024 Wearable Trends For Fall
English Prep Trend

The English prep trend is a great opportunity for you to bring out some of the classic, fitted blazers you may already have in your wardrobe. It’s a timeless aesthetic featuring tweeds, cables, and plaids. You can make this as campy as you like or just think classic, and you’ll be on the right track. Trousers are still going strong and work beautifully with the English Prep vibe, as do tweed and cabled sweaters.
Leopard Trend

On the flip side of prep is leopard print, and it’s everywhere for fall. Women seem to either love or loathe this print, finding it either tacky or classy. It’s one of the few prints I do wear in moderation. A little leopard goes a long way, so you can get a lot of bang with a simple leopard shoe, belt, or bag. On the other hand, if leopard is your superpower, this could be your season to flaunt it. I include cheetah in this trend because the look is very similar.
Leopard and cheetah prints are common in shades of orange, brown, and golden hues, but this year, I’m spotting (bad pun) lots of options in cool tones.
Layers

Layers aren’t exactly a groundbreaking trend for fall, but this season, we’re seeing some fresh takes on how to wear them. I’m excited to see ponchos and wraps making a comeback. I’ll be bringing out my cashmere wraps and poncho for the first crisp day we have. J. Crew makes a fabulous cashmere wrap, as does Quince.
This triple fleece capelet just landed in my cart for fall in the elephant color. I know from experience that the fabric is super comfortable and easy to layer over different outfits.
Breton Stripes

Breton stripes began as a navy and white striped uniform in the French Navy back in the 1800s. Over time, these iconic stripes moved from naval attire to the fashion scene, thanks in part to style legends like Coco Chanel. We’re not just going to be seeing stripes in tees and sweaters this fall but also in outerwear like blazers, lady jackets, cardigans, and shoes.

Being by the coast means cool breezes, so I’ve been wearing this cropped knit peacoat on repeat, budget-friendly option here.
Ballet Flats
Ballet flats are on trend, again. When did they ever go out of style? I think of them as one of those staples that never go out of style and are always a reliable choice. I find these Margaux Demi ballet flats incredibly comfortable and love that they come in wide, and narrow options. They’re a totally classic, and the adjustable cord bow allows me to loosen it on my left foot for even more comfort over my bunion.
Slingback Shoes

Slingback, lady-like shoes are a huge trend for fall 2024. Many have heels, but low-heeled and flat versions are also plentiful. These similar slingbacks by Vionic look even more comfy because I know they have a cushioned insole and arch support.
Skirts
Skirts are having a moment this fall, and I hope to add a few more to my wardrobe this year. Denim skirts have been hugely popular for several seasons, and the trend continues into fall. This one from Chico’s looks to have a nice slim fit with a modest front slit that makes it easy to walk in.

I’ve been enjoying this affordable Allegra K denim skirt all summer. The denim is soft, and it has an amazing amount of stretch, so it’s really comfy. I love its modest length that you can easily adjust with a quick snip with your scissors.

This longer denim midi skirt by Farm Rio would be a better length to wear with the knee boot trend that’s making a comeback. It has flattering front seams and a generous slit which makes it easy to walk in.
MORE SKIRTS
If denim skirts aren’t quite your thing, there are plenty of other great options for fall. There are lots of textures to choose from, such as wool, tweed, suede, faux leather, etc. I found this forest green silk skirt that would check multiple trend boxes. There’s a wide range of materials and styles out there, so you’re sure to find something that fits your taste.
7. Wide Leg Jeans
Wide pant legs aren’t going anywhere soon. They’ll continue to be popular all fall and winter. Some of you are not fans, but if you like them, you’ll have lots of options this fall.

SOME GREAT WIDE-LEG PANTS
Other Popular 2024 Fall Trends:
- Fringe: Western-inspired fringe additions to items like purses and jackets are making an appearance.
- Feathers: Think feather cuffs and hems on tops and dresses.
- Faux Fur: I think we’ll be seeing lots of this, especially in shades of brown.
Which of these trends are you most excited to see this fall?

Love your blog today. I was thinking to buying a long denim skirt but now I’m only 5’2 1/2” so I was wondering if it would be better buying a shorter skirt?
I think just below the knee or midi would be preferable to full length. I’ve tried on a few ankle length ones lately and they feel overwhelming on me.
