Dressing Room Diaries- Spring Forward

Happy Sunday ladies. It seems frivolous to talk about clothes with everything that’s going on, but we do need to get dressed and it’s a great distraction so let’s indulge. I needed to be at the mall to walk in the Talbots fashion show on Thursday. As I was leaving I popped into Nordstrom for a quick dressing room diaries. This may be my last for a little while so I hope you enjoy.

If you’re new here, drd is when I go into stores and try on new merchandise so you can see how it looks on a woman over 25 who wears a size larger than zero. For reference, I am 5’4″ and have an inverted triangle shape. I weigh 147 pounds and have broad shoulders with straight, slim hips. My torso and arms are long.

With spring in the air, I gravitated to color and started with this look.

Curves 360 Perfect Blouse / Floral legging jeans

NYDJ makes multiple variations of this popular blouse in zillions of colors. Plus version here. This is the 3/4 sleeve perfect blouse in “Ocean Drive”. I’m wearing a regular in a medium. It’s available in 16 other colors. It runs large so order down one size. The leggings are like a breath of spring air. They’re very slim fitting with lift tuck technology to keep everything in place. I’m wearing a 6 which is snugger than I like so they fit true to size.

Hazy Days Twist hem linen sweater / Marilyn high-rise jeans

These are NYDJ straight leg Marilyn jeans. I have and love the fit of these jeans. Mine is in a very deep wash so I’m loving the switch to this water-conscious Belle Isle, pale wash. I’m wearing an 8 regular which are miles too long so I folded the bottom under. These jeans stretch out with wear, so size down. This sweater is really lovely! Soft and lightweight with a tie-dye of soft blues. I’m wearing a regular in a medium so it runs true to size. The petite would also fit, but because I have a long torso, I would opt for regular length.

long linen cardigan / Inky Flowers tank topplus here / high-rise straight-leg jeans

Here are the same jeans as above in a size 6 which fits me better. The top is a perfect tank to wear with jeans or you could dress it up. Nic+Zoe makes some of the nicest linen cardigans and this is no exception. I like the longer length of this one. It has no closure so I just wrapped the front. Notice my legs look longer with the tank tucked in but you can get a similar proportion by wearing short over long the way I tied this cardi.

In The Clouds shirtdress

I’m having a real thing about dresses this spring. In fact, I bought 2 at Talbots which you’ll see soon. This shirtdress by Nic+Zoe is a bold print with black, white and very pale blue. I’m wearing a medium in regular which fits but it’s too long for me. Dresses look best when hemmed to a spot where your leg narrows.

Crossover Tie Dye Twist Detail dress

I loved this twist front dress but it’s made for a woman with curvier hips than me;( The twist at the waist makes this very flattering. I’m wearing a petite large which is a better length than the other dress, but even in petite medium, it would have too much fabric for straight hips. This is a great casual dress you could top with a blazer to and wear to work or white keds and run around town.

Plaid Tweed Jacket / white tank / Barely Bootcut jeans

This open-front tweed jacket is a great piece for casual or dresses up for the office. It has no closure and is meant to be worn open. I’m wearing a petite in medium, which fits but has no stretch so I would go up one size for comfort. I wore the white tank and jeans into the store.

This darling little jacket is too large for me. I’m wearing a medium in regular length but would be better in the petite. Plus size here It’s meant to be more cropped than this and the sleeves are meant to be bracelet length. It’s a fun little jacket to pop over a tee and jeans or a summer dress that needs a little extra shoulder coverage.

Until things settle down, I down expect to be doing drd in the near future.

Thanks for reading and stay safe.

  1. I love those jackets. Right now, I’m looking for positive news and fun. Fashion is a perfect distraction! Stay safe. Xx

  2. I really like the NYDJ blouse! It would work for me!

I hope you are doing well there!

  3. You look nice in all the outfits, but Nordstrom is entirely too expensive in my opinion. Even though I could afford to do so, I would never pay $100+ for one pair of pants! The blue and white top you modeled has a ridiculously high price for one top, and I have a very similar one with much more detail that I bought for around $30. I am a frugal shopper…if I see something I like that is overly expensive I just keep shopping around and usually I will eventually find something similar for much less.

    1. We need to all shop within a budget we’re comfortable with. Finding similar items at lower prices is a great skill.

    2. Everything shown is cute, yet pricey. Check Nordstrom Rack first 🙂
My secret weapon is Macy’s Last Act…

  4. Great outfits. I love them all but I would enjoy seeing you use clothes you’ve bought before styled in a different way too. I especially love posts that show casual clothes because I don’t really attend too many events so I don’t buy many new dressy pieces.
I want us all to use caution and common sense because this too shall pass and we will go on a buying spree come Summer for sure. I believe that.

  5. I’m not in love with the fringed jacket thing, but you do look so good in that turquoise color.

  6. Love that you are distracting us!! Yesterday was a double edge sword for me got our tickets delivered for our Viking Cruise from Paris to Normandy due to sail 5/5! Doubt that will happen. Then in the afternoon got confirmation for Aruba December 4th. So I guess you get the good with the bad! We all have to go with the flow and stay safe! Please continue your post even if it is clothes from your closet ! You have such great style.
Going to go wash my hands now 😂

  7. Thank you, Jennifer, for this perfect distraction! I loved all of the pieces you modeled, especially the cheery printed pants! I’m trying so hard to curb my clothing impulse buys, but now I’m lusting for some of things you have on! Lol! Oh well; it sure is fun to look! Thanks again.

  8. Love your posts, and it seems like this is the safest way to still maintain contact with the outside world for awhile. Please keep posting!
Love the aqua shirt & print pants, but it made me wonder… is it just me or do so many blouses seem to be thinner & much more sheer these days, or is it just me? Is this how manufacturers are saving money?
    Stay safe & healthy everybody!!

    1. A lot of them are sheerer which I’m not a fan of either. I wonder if they’re doing it to save money or just a style choice. Stay safe

  13. Love the short dress, I have hips no matter what I weigh and I am 5’2”. I ordered 12 petite in NYDJ jeans I wonder if I should try 10? I currently weigh 142.
