Casual At-Home Holiday Outfits

It’s a pretty sure bet that most, if not all of us will be celebrating the holidays at home, with minimal guests. There will be a very small crowd…as in no crowd, at our house. That doesn’t mean we don’t want to wear something festive and we certainly don’t want to look frumpy.

This month for The Fashion Edit Over 50, Cindy and I are sharing casual at-home holiday outfits. Casual means different things to different people. For some, it’s sneakers and sweats. I tend to lean on the more dressed-up side of casual so here are two outfits I’d wear for the holidays.

Plaid

All of a sudden, I’m loving plaid, especially for the holidays. It just feels cherry, which we could all use a dose of this year. This A-line tunic is just the sort of top I would wear for hanging at home. It comes in several colors, one being this, my favorite evergreen.  The photo below is a better capture of the color.jennifer of a well styled life wearing plaid shirt from j jill

I love the way the sides dip down, so you have an asymmetrical hemline. It obviously has pockets which I’m always a sucker for. It does come with a button for every buttonhole, but neither my husband nor I noticed I hadn’t buttoned the middle one up:D I’m wearing a medium petite which feels large so I would size down. And if you’re short like me, be sure to get petite or it’ll be like a dress on you. casual at-home holiday outfit of plaid shirt and nacy cords on jennifer of a well styled life

I styled it with these fine-wale corduroy pants that are so soft, I thought they were velvet. They are cotton with plenty of spandex which is super important for me during holiday mealtime. They come in 3 other colors, all in petite, regular, plus, and tall. I’m wearing a 6 petite which fits me perfectly so they run TTS. This would also look great over these cozy velour leggings.

I couldn’t resist this broach which I’ll use every winter going forward. I love that it combines gold and silver tones and coordinates with my Pave Hoop Earrings.

Here are the same corduroy pants, this time in pinot. A note about the length…I wear booties a lot this time of year. Most narrow leg pants aren’t wide enough to cover the shaft of the bootie. That means the pants need to be shorter or they will bunch on top. I usually opt for the regular in pants, but with booties, the petite is perfect. If you live in a colder climate than I do, you could opt to wear socks that match your booties.chenille sweater in burgundy worn by jennifer of a well styled life

Chenille

This chenille sweater is really soft and cuddly. You saw me wear it in navy here. In that post, I wore the regular medium and assumed that I could also wear the petite, and I can…but the arms are shorter than I like. I do have long arms which often has me preferring tops from the regular department.

Sparkle

I’ve had this scarf for over 30 years. I store it in a ziplock bag and only use it around the holidays so the moths have not gotten to it;) This one is surprisingly similar. My necklace was a huge seller at J.Crew for many years, with good reason. It adds just the right touch to both casual and dressier looks. It’s now sold out but I found one here. I have worn this so often, I rubbed the metal off the back of mine so I bought a replacement. That’s one of the best things about eBay…you can find almost everything for sale.

HERE ARE A FEW OTHERS

Let’s head over to Cindy Hattersley Design and see what’s she’s wearing. Something tells me she’s going to knock it out of the park because she always does.

I know many of you collect pins as I do. How do you store yours? I’m running out of room on the pillow I pin mine to.

Thanks for reading and remember to wear what makes you feel confident.

  1. I like the way the plaid shirt looks on you so I went online and ordered. I am short with blond hair similar to yours, this is outside my norm but this year needs a boost. Thank you for your ideas.

That pinot color looks fabulous on you! You have the perfect shade of lipstick for it too! I’m all about casual, so this post was perfect for my motivation to get out of leggings once in a while.
