Chico’s Spring Arrivals Latest Try-On and Styling Tips

I stopped into Chico’s earlier this week for a quick try-on and found quite a few new pieces worth looking at. I’m styling them the way I would actually wear them, paying close attention to proportion, balance, and how each item works with what I already own.

You might combine them differently, and that’s the point. A try-on isn’t about copying an outfit exactly as shown. It’s about seeing how small adjustments in length, layering, or color can shift the entire look and make it feel intentional rather than accidental.

BOYFRIEND CREPE BLAZER size 1 / GIRLFRIEND CROP KICK FLARES size 0.5 / CONTOUR COTTON TANK size 1

This boyfriend crepe blazer is the prettiest soft pink…muted and slightly cool, not sugary. I especially like it against black because the contrast keeps it from feeling overly sweet. It also works beautifully with white, navy, brown, or gray. That versatility matters because if a color only works with one specific pairing, it tends to sit in the closet gathering dust.

The roll-tab sleeves are practical because you can cuff them and they actually stay in place, instantly making the blazer feel less structured and more modern. If pink isn’t your color, it also comes in sand and black.

Because this jacket is longer, it has a “shortening” factor that can easily overwhelm a frame. To offset that, I’ve styled it over a column of black to create a long, uninterrupted vertical line.

The crop kick flares are relaxed through the hip and thigh, so the shape is subtle. On a shorter frame, these are almost full-length, which makes them much easier to wear with flats. By keeping the color consistent from top to bottom, the eye doesn’t stop at the waist, which helps balance the longer proportions of the blazer.

If your lifestyle is more casual, you could easily wear this over blue jeans, a tee, and white sneakers. The goal is to get the most wear out of a piece, not just one “special occasion” outfit.

EMBROIDERED CROPPED COLLARED SHIRT SIZE 1 / GIRLFRIEND SLIM ANKLE JEANS 0.5 /
CONTOUR COTTON TANK size 1 /SILVER HOOP EARRINGS

I tried on this Embroidered Cropped Collared Shirt to see how the proportions worked. It’s a crisp poplin, and the contrast embroidery gives it a sharp, graphic look that feels more elevated than a basic button-down.

We’re seeing a lot of cropped shirts lately because they’re designed to balance the volume of the wider leg styles that are everywhere. The problem is that “cropped” usually means you’re exposing your belly the moment you move or reach for something.

I’m wearing this one open like a little jacket over a cotton tank. It solves the exposure issue entirely while still giving you that modern, shorter proportion and helps your legs look longer. It also has 3/4 sleeves to show off your wrists.

I’ve paired the shirt with Girlfriend Slim Ankle Jeans. These are a good, classic shape that provides a slim line through the leg without being tight or restrictive and comes in 4 colors in regular, petite, and tall.

CROPPED DENIM TRUCKER JACKET size 1 / NO IRON LINEN FLORAL SHIRT size 1 / GIRLFRIEND STRAIGHT LEG size 0.5

I love the fit of these Girlfriend Straight Ankle Jeans. They’re a great, classic shape, but the challenge with a fuller leg is that you can’t just throw on a long, oversized top or you’ll look like you’re drowning in fabric.

Tying or tucking the shirt is the easiest way to find your waist again. It keeps the linen from hanging straight down and competing with the width of the jeans.

The cropped jacket works the same way…it hits right where the shirt is tied, so you’re doubling down on that waistline without adding a bunch of bulk. Mixing your denim washes like this keeps the look intentional and modern.

TEXTURED BUTTON FRONT CARDIGAN size 1 / CONTOUR COTTON TANK size 1 / SKINNY BOOTCUT JEANS size 1

These Skinny Bootcut Jeans are a style I recommend because the cut flatters almost every figure. The slight flare at the hem balances out the hips and creates a long, lean line.

I’ve paired them with the Textured Button-Front Cardigan worn open over the Contour Cotton Square Neck Tank. This tank is a fantastic layering piece that comes in seven colors, making it easy to coordinate with almost anything. By wearing the cardigan open, I’m creating a vertical line down the center of the body that keeps the look streamlined and professional.

NO IRON STRETCH STRIPED SHIRT size 1 / BRIGITTE SLIM LEG size 0.5 /
TEXTURED BUTTON FRONT CARDIGAN size 1

I couldn’t pass this gorgeous No Iron Stretch Striped Shirt without trying it on. The no-iron fabric is one of the best in the market, and the fit is reliably flattering.

Because the shirt is longer, I paired it with these white Brigitte Basic Slim Ankle Pants. The pull-on styling couldn’t be easier to wear.

When you’re wearing a top with more length and volume, a slim pant helps to keep the look from being too oversized…unless you love the loose-over-loose look! To finish it off, I draped a cardigan over my shoulders to add texture without adding bulk. The cardigan also comes in a soft pink.

ELONGATED BELTED DENIM JACKET size 1 / PIMA COTTON V-NECK TAB size 0 /
GIRLFRIEND KICK FLARE JEANS size 0.5

I couldn’t pass this gorgeous Elongated Belted Denim Jacket in Seagrass Green without trying it on. The cotton-blend fabric is very soft and has just enough stretch to be comfortable. I love the way the longer length offers a sophisticated twist on a standard denim jacket.

The jacket has a belt to highlight your waist, but I prefer it open with this striped tee. I almost get the 1/3 – 2/3 ratio on this outfit…but not quite because the kick flare jeans are a bit cropped. Of course my striped socks really slam the eye to a halt so pretend I’m not wearing them :). These black jeans would be better because they’d pick up the stripe.

ZENERGY TWILL RAIN JACKET size 1 / STRIPED TEE / BRIGITTE CROP FLARES size 0.5

I couldn’t pass this gorgeous Zenergy Twill Rain Jacket in Azalea without trying it on. The fabric is a sturdy, water-resistant twill with a hood for those rainy days, and the vibrant pink is the perfect antidote to a gray morning.

I’ve paired it with a striped Pima V-Neck Tab-Sleeve Tee and these black Brigitte Crop Flare Pants. The Brigitte is a slim, pull-on style, but this version features a fun crop flare that adds a bit of personality to the hemline.

PONTE DOUBLE BREASTED KNIT BLAZER size 1 / KNIT WOVEN RIB HENLEY size 1 /
GIRLFRIEND KICK FLARE JEANS size 0.5

I found this Ponte Double-Breasted Knit Blazer and knew the fabric would be a winner. It’s a smooth, substantial knit that feels expensive but will wear like a dream. To keep it from looking too “office,” I pushed up the sleeves for a more intentional, relaxed vibe. They call it double breasted, but it actually closes in the front with a hook so it does not overlap and add extra bulk.

I’m styling it over this Knit Rib Henley in a bright blue that really pops against the black, and these Girlfriend Kick Flare Jeans. The flare is such a fun silhouette and since these aren’t full-length, they’re perfect for showing off a great pair of shoes.

I love clothes that can do double or triple duty in my wardrobe. It’s cost-effective, makes getting dressed easier, and is a lifesaver for travel.

How many pieces in your closet right now are actually earning their keep by working in three different ways?

  1. That jean jacket is great!!

    1. I agree! So different

  2. Perhaps your neighbours have another plan for privacy now that the hedge is gone. If not, a lattice planter will look nice and give you some privacy.
Love the rain jacket but some reviews say the sleeves run short. Having long arms, they are sure to be too short.

    1. I didn’t find them short

Did you leave the store with any items you tried on?

  4. Love all the jeans and the henley shirt. I think you will be happy with the privacy trellis. My son and DIL have one and it really looks nice. Great try on.

    1. Amazing, thank you!

  5. Great post! I have got to get some new white/off-white jeans and this reminded me to checkout Chicos.

  6. What is your opinion, on Chico’s printed pants and shorts for summer? I have several pair from last summer or the year before, but not sure if they are still “current” Thanks in advance for your opinion. Have a blessed day!

    1. I do not personally wear prints but I know many women do. It’s very personal based on your style preferences and location. I’ll also be honest and say many prints from Talbots, Loft, JJill and Chico’s, aimed at older women can wind up looking juvenile if not careful.

      1. Excellent description! I appreciate the honesty. I find if I can find a medium size print it sometimes can look dressier than a plain top. 98% of my tops are plain but I really appreciate the juvenile description you gave. Much of the time I really can’t figure out how to say what some clothing looks like. I finally figured out why a specific Barbour coat didn’t look good on me as much as I wanted it to. It made me look and feel frumpy, not put together. Thank you for your insights and honest comments for us older 60+ fluffy gals.

      2. I’m glad it was helpful Sherry.

    2. I love that black shirt with the white embroidery worn as a jacket. Chicos always has some great embroidered pieces. You look great in the cropped length tops.

      1. Thanks Connie

Nice try on session – the azalea rain jacket is my favorite! I have a question about ayr denim. You mentioned secret sauce & the legend pair in recent posts. Which would choose & why if my budget allows for 1 pair?

    1. My Legend has not arrived so I can not compare but I think I will prefer its slimmer leg
