Casual And Easy From Talbots

Happy Friday ladies. My love affair with summer skirts and dresses continues… I have a very casual look today that is really versatile. Each piece is interchangeable which gives you lots of options.

This Cotton Canvas A-line Skirt from Talbots has a classic navy and white geometric print that looks fresh for summer. I love that it’s lined because as I shared here, it’s my preferred way to go in the heat. I love that Talbots lining stretches with the skirt. Some brands use non-stretch lining with a stretch garment which defeats the whole purpose of a stretchy skirt!

I am wearing an 8 petite which fits perfectly so as usual for Talbots, it runs true to size. If I wanted a bit more length I could easily wear the regular, and I would size down to the 6. I can also see this skirt dressed up with my white linen blazer and a pair of closed espadrilles for anything other than running around the suburbs.

I’m wearing it with this summer’s go-to white tee shirt which you’ve seen me wear a lot. I’m not a fan of sheer white tees, so I love that this one is opaque yet thin enough to keep me cool.denim jacket and blue cotton skirt on Jennifer Connolly

I topped this with a denim jacket that’s a year-round staple in mine and many women’s wardrobes. This one has a totally classic shape and is in Talbots’ newest Vintage wash. I’m seeing a lot of lighter washes this summer which feels fresh and modern to me after so many years of dark wash.

I’m wearing a medium jacket in the regular. I considered the petite large, but I have long arms so even though I seldom wear them down, I like the extra bit of sleeve length it gives me.

Round handbags are such a fun look but they seldom hold much. This Circle Straw Crossbody Bag is fairly deep so it will hold all my stuff…including my sunglass case! The removable shoulder strap is a white and ink colored that coordinates with my skirt.

These sandals come in white or this Havana Tan. My matchy-matchy self would have ordinarily chosen the white, but I decided to branch out and I quite like the look. They look great with lots of my neutrals and have a more sophisticated feel to me than white.

  1. I love this outfit on you! As for me, I can’t wear straight skirts. My bulky saddlebags ruin the look. As for the denim jacket, I have a dark washed denim and a light washed denim jacket. But every time I put them on with a dress or maxi skirt, I feel like they don’t quite go together. And I think it looks too casual or tom-boyish on me. Yet I love the look on others. How can I make a denim jacket look as cute on me as it does on others?

    1. I have a very straight “mannish” figure so I always try to pop the back of the collar. I roll the sleeves, and usually add bracelets. Look for jackets with some shaping to it. It might take a bit for your eye to adjust to the look. Try a white or pale colored one too.

  2. I just love that outfit on you, and I love love that skirt. Unfortunately in my older age I have acquired some massive veins on my legs and I am self conscious about wearing shorter skirts. I think a less extreme mermaid type skirt would suit me, but I can never find one

    1. Mermaid skirts do come and go in popularity so keep your eye out and you might find some.

  3. Jennifer, this outfit looks great on you!

  4. What a fresh and chic look! I like a look that’s a mixed combination of styles and textures, yet they work so well together. Hope your hand heals quickly.

  5. Great look for you Jennifer. The skirt looks comfortable and fresh. Even the compression glove coordinates with your outfit.

The sandals in the darker tone and the handbag pull the look together without being too color forward.

The jacket is a big no here in SE Florida as temps even in the evenings range from lows in the 80s to daytimes in the mid 90s with high humidity. Maybe in January we’d have a few days where the jacket can be worn. I sure miss N. California evenings as I enjoy pulling an outfit together with jackets and blazers.

  6. Your outfit is a winner! I loved each piece!

I hope your hand heals quickly! 🙏

    1. Thanks Linda. I am now on the physical therapy train to regain flexibility and prevent more scarring. They promise me it will improve but wow, does it hurt.

  7. Jennifer-wow cute outfit and yes it makes you look young and stylish! The Jean jacket is a keeper. Really polishes off the look. Since I love jewelry, I would add a few silver bracelets and a long silver chain with a tigers eye pendant to tie in the color of your sandals. Thanks for always sharing your wonderful fashion ideas!!

    Just a great outfit!
I’m not wearing t shirts so much lately because of my muffin top but this look would look great with a cute white shirt.
Love your look & your blog❣️

  9. I like this look a lot and I have this jacket but I live in a hot country so I don’t get to use it much but I’ll keep it in mine for the cooler weather.

Love this outfit on you Jennifer! I have just bought some great deals from Talbots lately and I did not see this skirt so I will have to go back! Its just a great easy summer look and thanks for the sizing advice as I did not know that about getting a longer lenght choosing a medium as mostly I am a 8P. That’s the only thing that would make me pause is the length. Happy weekend 🙂

Wonderful, “put together” look. Easy to accomplish, even for those of us in remedial fashion sense. Enjoy the week-end and cherish the time!

  12. Julie Traxler says:

You look great in this outfit ! I would love to try the skirt on in long (not sure if Talbots has longs or talls). I have long legs, and often shorts or skirts can be too short for me. I love everything you have on. It is appropriately young.

  13. Love the entire outfit…..you look great!! It’s young, fresh and age appropriate all at the same time. Thanks for the great post.

  14. Linda Henderson says:

You are looking good! Like the Talbots choices.

  15. I agree with all the comments – the skirt is very flattering. As a big Talbots fan, I’m eagerly awaiting new arrivals but suspect it will be awhile. Retailers don’t seem to be offering new selections as frequently these days.

  17. I love everything about this outfit.

Looks fantastic on you, Jennifer. Exactly what I do wear on a fairly regular basis. Thanks for the inspiration and what is perfect the skirt can be dressed up easily.

    1. I love it with my white linen blazer too. Now if I only had an event to wear it to 😮
