December 2024 Collection Try-On From J. Jill

It feels like ages since I’ve been in the dressing room for a try-on session. I’ve been in and out of Talbots several times lately, but not J. Jill, so I decided to check it out. Of course, a new collection dropped the day after I was in, so I headed back the next day. The upshot is that many of the first outfits are all on sale, up to 40% off, and the later ones are part of the new collection.

If you’re new here, a try-on is when I go into a store and style their latest collection so readers can see what’s new and get some ideas for how they could wear it. I’m not shopping for myself and seldom buy clothes because I prefer to shop online. For size reference, I’m 5’4″, which puts me on the cusp of petite. I have broad shoulders and straight hips with no obvious curves. J. Jill carries sizes reg, petite, and some talls in sizes XS-4X. I usually reach for petite first but do shop in all sections for the best fit.

SOFT PLAID TUNIC size S / WIDE LEG JEANS size 10P / PURE JILL CORDED VELOUR WIDE-LEG PANTS SIZE XS

This plaid shirt is super soft and cozy. It comes in this green or a scarlet red. I have it tucked in here, but it’s longer in the back and would be great over some velvet leggings for a casual and festive feel. On the left are these stretchy, wide-leg jeans with a tiny fray at the hem. They’re super comfy and have a nice, non-distressed wash. On the right are these corded velour pants that look like corduroy but are as stretchy as sweatpants. They’re a pull-on style in the most gorgeous teal color. This XS is a smidge long on me, but they do come in petite and are on sale.

ITALIAN BOUCLÉ PONCHO / PIMA COTTON TEE / AUTHENTIC SLIM FIT JEANS 8P

This Italian bouclé poncho is available in chocolate for full price or marked down in this lovely teal shade. The knit is substantial, and it feels great on. I’m wearing it over a Pima tee and slim-fit jeans. The tee comes in tons of colors, stripes, and patterns. I don’t know about you, but I wear a lot of long-sleeved cotton tees in the winter and can never have too many. The jeans come in 5 color options and are a classic fit.

TEXTURED COWL NECK SWEATER size SP/ PONTE SLIM LEG PANTS size S / CHENILLE CABLE TUNIC size S

These ponte pants are too large and long for me, so I needed the petite ones. This type of pant also looks better on the slimmer side rather than loose and wrinkled like these. On the left is this textured cowl neck sweater in scarlet. Its popcorn texture looks nice on the inside of the cowl, too. I could have also benefited from a petite in this green chenille tunic sweater. The chenille is super soft, and the cable lays flat, so it doesn’t feel too chunky. It’s a great length to wear over very slim pants or leggings.

PURE JILL VELOUR V-NECK TOP size SP / PURE JILL SLIM LEG PANTS size SP

I would have never put these greens together, but J. Jill did, and it works. This velour top has an olive base and multicolor flowers, so it would actually coordinate with many colors. These ponte pants have nice slim legs. They’re a pull-on style with side pockets. These are teal and they also come in two other warm neutrals that would coordinate with this top as well.

PURE JILL 5 POCKET KNIT JEANS size S / PURE JILL CURVED-FRONT PRINTED CARDI size S

These jeans are a stretchy knit that’s incredibly comfortable. Mine are black, and they also come in blue. They’re a pull-on jean that feels like your comfiest sweatpants. This curved front cardigan seems more like a knit jacket to me. It’s a bouclé paisley fabric that feels substantial, and the shawl collar helps make it a statement piece.

On my second trip in, I was wearing blue socks to try on the newest collection. Yes, they’re a little distracting, so let’s ignore them.

INTARSIA SNOWFLAKE SWEATER size S / PONTE WELT POCKET SLIM PANTS size S

This snowflake sweater is a cotton blend bouclé texture in soft ivory with a pale gray, oversized print. I’m wearing it over these charcoal-colored pull-on ponte pants. They have welt pockets and plenty of spandex, so they’ll hold their shape. These smalls are too long on me, so I folded the hem under one time. This deep charcoal is a lovely neutral for winter that’s softer than black and can easily dress up or down.

WEAREVER SMOOTH FIT SLIM LEG size MP / MIXED TWEED CARDI size MP / PURE JILL LONG SLEEVE TEE size S

These Wearever pants are a deep navy, with a pull-on style and no pockets (that I recall). I’m wearing a petite medium, which is loose on me, so I think they run true to size. I’ve been working really hard to shed the extra 10 pounds I put on last summer, and they’re finally starting to come off. These pants also come in black and are made of a lovely fabric with 13% lycra, so they’ll hold their shape.

The tweed cardigan is a combination of dark blues with a tiny metallic thread running through. It’s slightly shaped through the waist and a nice cropped length that would work with straight, narrow, or wide-leg pants. The long-sleeved tee is 95% pima cotton and 5% spandex, and it has a shirttail hemline to tuck or leave out. This color is pear, and it comes in 4 other options.

PURE JILL CURVED HEM CABLED SWEATER size MP / PURE JILL LONG SLEEVE TEE size S / HIGH-RISE WIDE-LEG JEANS size 6P

Here’s the same long-sleeved tee under a really fun curved hem sweater in the same pear color. It a circle shape without buttons that drapes in the front. The back has some very pretty cables, and the front has an oversized rib, which makes it drape nicely. The stitching is really quite pretty…nicer on the back than the front:) It also comes in nightingale, which looks like a deep gray to me. I’m wearing it with these wide-leg jeans in a light Barley color. They’re a cotton/rayon blend with a sleek, smooth feel that is more like pants than jeans. They also come in a deep denim blue and black wash.

QUIET LUXURY PULLOVER size S / PURE JILL AFFINITY SLIM LEG size MP

This pullover has a lovely texture created by the tweedy yarn. It’s a reverse knit, so the rows are visible, which also adds to the texture. I love all the cowl necks in this collection, which are cozy but have a drapey feel rather than a structured turtleneck. This sweater also comes in a green they call banana leaf, but it looks like deep mint to me. I love that it has set-in sleeves because I am really tired of all those drop-shoulder sweaters!

These pants are a deep gray cotton blend with Tencel and spandex. They have side pockets and are a pull-on style. As with the other pants…I guessed wrong on the size and needed the small petite, so they do run true to size. These are also available in 4 other colors.

TEXTURED OPEN CARDI size SP / LONG SLEEVE TEE size SP / SLIM ANKLE JEANS size 6

The colors of this textured cardigan are like a breath of fresh air. Could they be thinking of spring already? This one is called pink sapphire. It also comes in crystal, which is similar to my sock color and grey heather. The knit has a medium-weight waffle texture that layers nicely over this long-sleeve tee in the same pink and white stripe. I paired them with these slim-ankle jeans in a soft graphite gray wash. The jeans also come in 5 other washes, including blue, mauve, white, and black.

What’s your favorite sweater in these looks?

PS- I’ve lost the weight by intermittent fasting, drinking very little, if any, wine, working out regularly, and not snacking between meals.

  1. Wow! It didn’t take you long to lose the weight! May I ask how long each day you fasted? I’ve tried IF and my weight didn’t budge. Oh, I love the snowflake sweater best. Unfortunately, I’ve got too much belly fat to wear any of these well.

    1. I stop eatting around 6 or 6:30, then have my protien shake around 10:30 in the morning. I still do add a touch of milk to my tea in the am but it still seems to work. I think the no snacking has been huge too.

  2. I agree that the cowl neck sweaters are more comfortable. I have lost 8 lbs over the past six months. I’m eating my birthday cake and cashew Carmel ice cream today to celebrate my 80th birthday! That will show up for sure on the scale for a few days. I have wide shoulders, barely any waist any more, slim hips and short legs. I have to shorten petite pants and jeans now at 5’1” as they are making them longer. Tunic tops make me look like halves instead of thirds so I prefer the shorter sweaters and tees. I wear long sleeve tees all winter and often wear a plaid flannel shirt over them with jeans.

  3. You look great in everything. I especially like the plaid shirt and the pink outfit. Very nice.

  4. I’m a big J Jill fan. Thanks for the fashion show!

  5. I love my JJill wide leg jeans they are very comfy. I ran in a couple of days ago just for a simple pair of JJill black pants but the new collection was being put out so I grabbed a pretty pink top with a plaid scarf that went perfectly. I do love there clothes and fit for petites.

    1. I agree, the wide leg jeans are super comfy!
