How Many Crowns do you Wear?

Happy weekend ladies! This one couldn’t come soon enough for me. In the category of too much information, I thought I’d share my week with you…lest you think mine’s all glamorous and fun:)

Three days before we flew home from Mexico, I bit into something and loosened my front crown…or so I thought.

in the dentist chair

The Monday we got home, I saw my dentist who informed me that my crown was just fine but I’d snapped off the tooth the crown is attached to. Ouch! As he explained my options I began to cry and when he mentioned dentures I lost it. I suddenly felt fragile and it didn’t feel good. The problem is this tooth is hanging by a thread and won’t survive for long. My solution would take months to complete and having no front tooth would be a big challenge for my confidence.

I won’t go into the gruesome details, but if you look at yesterday’s Dressing Room Diaries, you won’t see many toothy smiles on me 🙂 I have a long way to go to complete the restoration. In the interim, I’m wearing a stay plate (partial denture) and lisping like crazy. I opted to get an implant and new crown, which will take 5-6 months. I’m once again reminded how blessed I am that these bionic parts and repairs are available to us.

Just keeping it real ladies because we all have challenges and learn from each other. I lost a crown this week but have a shiny new expensive one on its way 🙂

Jennifer I am sorry you are going through this. I want to let you know that you are not alone! I am going to have the same kind of oral surgery on side molars that were also crowned. Losing jaw bone. I, too, have been tearful over the time consuming process as well as the cost. Ouch! Thank you for the reminder that we are indeed blessed by technology.

    1. Good luck, Deborah!! It is tough but we’ll get through it and be even better after! xo

  2. I wear an acrylic (i.e.,hard plastic) night guard (in dental terms “appliance”) for TMJ issues. My dentist told me it also works to protect my crowns. Who knew? How many people with crowns know this???

    1. I know it now and am getting one to wear at night once my tooth repair is finished!!

  3. My four front teeth are crowned and I have terrible dreams sometimes that my crowns fall off or my teeth fall out. I guess I need to start wearing bite guards. Do people wear them on top and bottom? And what would make your tooth break off under the crown? Scary thought and I hope all this is past you soon!

    1. My dentist is going to make me a night guard for the top teeth once this repair is finished. I don’t think you wear one top and bottom. Just one of them to prevent grinding. I am a clencher so it will help reduce stress on my teeth. My teeth are not aligned well, top to
bottom so they’ve had a lot of pressure put on them and one just finally snapped!!

  4. I understand your issues with your teeth, Lord knows I’ve had plenty. One thing about the flipper my husband has, he takes it out when he’s at home. One day he couldn’t find it and then found it on the floor. One of our dogs had chewed on it., He cut the chewed parts off, cleaned it and back in his mouth it went. They are too expensive to throw away! Lol

    1. That’s funny Angie! My dentist warned me that dogs love to chew on these so I’m being very, very careful with mine 🙂
