How to Wear Double Denim For Spring

The last few days are showing great promise that spring is near, so it’s officially white jean season in my neck of the woods. I love a double denim outfit, and it’s more popular than ever this season. Today I’m sharing how I like to wear double denim over 50 for spring with two outfits from Nordstrom Rack. Iām thrilled to partner with Nordstrom Rack again because they carry all the high-quality brands I love and are an easy way to update my wardrobe at affordable prices.
Contrasting washes

My favorite way to style double denim is with contrasting washes. Either deep wash with light or different colors. This Kut From The Kloth denim jacket is a mid-blue wash with light distressing and 2% spandex for stretch. It’s almost sold out, which doesn’t surprise me because it’s only $39.95! This one is similar, and so is this one.
I’m wearing it over these Hudson straight-leg crop jeans. Most full-length jeans are made extra long to wear with the higher platform shoes these days. That poses a problem for short women like me, so I’m embracing cropped jeans like this with a 27″ inseam that is ankle length on me.

You know I’m all about comfy shoes, and these Franco Sarto Sandals are fabulous. They have a soft cushioned insole and velcro strap closure at the ankle. The toe loop keeps my foot securely in place without having to grip my toes, which I really appreciate these days.
Add a pop of color

Adding a pop of color to a double denim outfit is a fun way to spark interest. Cresent-shaped bags are trending for spring. I’ve had my eye out for one that would inject a pop of color into my neutral outfits and not break the bank. This Kate Spade Smile bag does it all. Mine is a deep primrose color that appears to be sold out, but it’s still available in Lingonberry (red) and Duck Green. This Nanette Lapore shirt comes in four colors sizes XS-XL. The sleeves have a button tab to keep your folded sleeves up.

For this look, I flipped the white to the top with this Caslon Denim jacket. It comes in sizes 0-18 in a cotton/spandex blend. This denim jacket is a little bit more cropped than the Kut From The Kloth so it’s a better proportion to pop over a summer dress or if you’re on the shorter side, like me. The gray ankle crop jeans have an unfinished hem with a slight flare which keeps them loose and airy. These are a bit large on me so I’m going to exchange them for the 28. The fabric is very soft and stretchy.
Add a hat

Adding jaunty fedora like this packable Eric Javits straw hat elevates your double denim outfit and gives it some attitude. This hat comes in three color options with UPF 50+ sunprotection and can get crushed into your suitcase for travel, then pop right back into shape.
Add some leopard print

A small touch of animal print is a great way to accesiorize double denim outfits. These Jack Rogers sneakers have a textured fabric and padded collar around the ankle. They’re a taupe with black print that ties into the black Nanette Lapore blouse and soft gray jeans.
Other leopard sneakers I spotted-
My favorite way to shop Nordstrom Rack is online for the largest selection at up to 70% off. I’ve learned you need to snap things up quickly when you see them because the best things sell out fast! You can also shop using their app or in-store. Plus, they have easy returns to any Nordstrom Rack or Nordstrom location and the best customer service.
Are you wearing double denim this spring?

Oh, that white denim jacket with the grey denim jeans is fabulous! I really need to step out of my comfort zone and try some of these ideas! Thanks for sharing them!
Very nice I need to go to Nordstromās rack; I forget about it, but need to go.
Try shopping it online. You’ll have much better luck.
I love shopping Nordstrom Rack online. If you have a Nordstrom card, they ship free and you can make returns at the Rack store. Lots of great bargains there.
The Rack ships free? I have a Nordstrom card and shipping is free after $89.
The shipping is always free

Love all your outfits, they look light and so easy to wear. I’m mainly in denim… I’m going to check out the Nordstrom Rack
in my area, eagerly awaiting the opening of The Rack nearer my home, hopefully in the fall. Also I checked out the NĆCESSAIRE line you featured. I’m always looking for a good neck cream, serum whatever might help….well priced….enjoy your day….
My local Rack is a little bit of a mess, so I shop online only — and have found some amazing items. I esp like their shoes, their Jenny Bird jewelry selection (varies by day), and the Longchamp bags. All are generally Nordstrom returns and the packaging may be dinged — but that doesn’t bother me. I set up a list of favorites and check back periodically.
I agree! A few dings on packaging doesnāt bother me one bit. I have to shop online. I can never find anything in my local store.
I sense a huge opportunity for the Rack — organize their stores! Everyone I know, in all parts of this country, says their local Rack is disorganized and difficult to shop. I recently moved from DC, where this was also the case — and in fact, the manager and I had multiple discussions about stocking larger size shoes (Nordstrom’s original claim to fame, right?) and keeping women’s plus size clothing with other women’s clothing, not over near the luggage and baby items (!!). I wanted to shop for my mom and for myself in the same area of the store — that’s a no-brainer, IMO.
I agree. But then, I always find online easier.
you look adorable. Iām living in three places now so my denim jacket is in Mississippi and I wonāt be going back there for two weeks. However I then head north to Philadelphia for a month so I think Iām packing jeans so I have them in Mississippi to grab the jacket to head to Philadelphia – so Iāll have everything in one suitcase. Plus I can mix and match – now if I could just do this with my suits for work. thanks for the ideas!
You wear a hat well !
Your style looks so effortless yet put together. Love the red bag with the denim. I have a red one I never use for some unknown reason. I’m going to pull it out and put it in rotation for sure!
It’s fun to add a pop of color to neutral outfits
Fantastic look today ! Thanks for showing a mix of denim to wear together, I wasnāt sure if it was appropriate, now I know you can and results are a great outfitšš
Have a really great day.
Have a great day, Pat
I love the Nordstrom.Rack. I’m interested in that jean jacket. I have an older Liz Claiborne one that just doesn’t seem quite right now. I also bought a pink one from Costco that is cute but pretty big on me so I want to find a just right one!! I like going to the actual store but they probably do have a better selection online. Your out fit is perfect š
Such great ideas for me today, Jennifer! I’m staring into my closet wondering what to wear (again!) but this post just jump- started my thinking!
Awesome. Have a great day
Thanks for showing the white denim jacket. I just ordered it! Iāve been wanting one for two years and when I saw it I thought, what am I waiting for?
I love white denim.
Love the sandals and the print sneakers! May I ask what lipstick you are wearing? It’s a very complimentary color for you!
It’s a combo these days, but this looks like Jane Iredale lip stain in Fascination, topped with Kosas lipstick in Rosewater.
Hi Jennifer,
I love Nordstrom Rack and make it a regular thing now to look at the website frequently for bargains and for brands that I love like Franco Sarto sandals. I bought a lovely pair of those and Vince Camuto sandals and Sam Edelman sandals for summer early on in the year. Such a great deal for everything! Have a lovely day:)
Me too! These sandals will get a lot of wear this summer. They’re so comfy.
I love double denim. Your idea of mixing the denims is brilliant.
Love this ā„!
