J.Jill Summer 2025 New Arrivals and Styling Ideas for Women Over 50

J.Jill has a new collection of great summer pieces with colors from the seashore and ocean. Gorgeous blues, teals, greens, and sand colors, along with fresh white and, of course, comfy denim pieces. I popped in for a small try-on last week and went back yesterday to shop for me😉. Let’s get to it and look at J.Jill Summer 2025 New Arrivals along with a few styling ideas to get your creativity going.

If you’re new here, a try-on is just me heading into a store to style pieces from their latest collection so you can see how they look on a woman over 50, not a 20-something model. I share fit notes, sizing tips, and how I might wear them. For reference, I’m 5’4” with broad shoulders and straight hips, and I wear both petite and regular sizes. J. Jill carries sizes XS–4X in regular, petite, and some tall. You can see some of my other dressing room try-ons here.

LONG GAUZE SHIRTDRESS size S / COTTON GAUZE TANK size S / SLIM ANKLE JEANS size 6

I spotted this long gauze shirt dress in the store window, styled open over pants and could not resist trying it on. I’ve always been a fan of items that can be worn in multiple ways, and this shirtdress definitely qualifies. It’s available in 3 colors. It would be great worn closed as a dress, and you could belt it to add some shaping or just for super hot weather. This would also work as a bathing suit cover-up…your options are limitless.

I’m styling it over this cotton gauze tank in the same aqua shade. The tank comes in 3 colors plus navy & white stripes. The length is perfect to wear untucked, which always feels so comfy in warm weather.

I’m wearing those with the slim-ankle jeans in bright white, but the combo would also look good over these pull-on gauze pants or blue denim. These jeans also come in black, but for summer, it’s hard to go wrong with white. They’re a very soft cotton blend with spandex that feels very comfy to move around in. This layered shell necklace would be a fun accessory that continues the sea theme, and this boho-inspired necklace has beads reminiscent of seaglass.

LINEN BUTTON FRONT SHIRT size MP / REVERSIBLE TANK size S / RELAXED PULL-ON JEANS size S

This linen shirt is one of those pieces that work overtime in your wardrobe. It comes in 8 gorgeous colors. I tried it in the medium petite, and it fits loosely without looking oversized. You could wear it open as a lightweight layer over tanks and tees or buttoned and half-tucked into jeans for a relaxed, effortless look. It comes in this pretty sky blue as well as a warm neutral.

The reversible tank underneath gives you two neckline options, a scoop or a V-neck, which is a brilliant little detail. I accidentally grabbed the small and would’ve preferred the medium for a less fitted look. It’s available in 10 colors to layer under everything.

These relaxed pull-on jeans are a recycled cotton, breathable and incredibly soft. They have an elasticized waistband, which doesn’t look funky, and faux fly, which gives you the look of regular jeans with more comfort. Style them with sandals now and a lightweight sneaker or espadrille later.

COTTON GAUZE SHIRTDRESS size S

I’m always drawn to easy cotton dresses for summer, and this one checks all the boxes: lightweight, breezy, and simple to wear. It hits just above the ankle, has a subtle A-line shape, and with side slits for ease of movement. They show it styled with this seed necklace which looks perfect. This would also pack like a dream for summer travel without the wrinkle “issue” that linen has. Yes, this was the dress I went back to buy for my summer wardrobe.

Summer Tops to Wear Now

This striped cotton sweater is perfect for cool mornings or evenings and has a great summer vibe. It has a slightly boxy fit that’s not too bulky, and the stripes along with three metal eyelets on side, give it a nautical vibe. Pair it with white jeans or shorts and slip-on sneakers for a look that feels pulled together but not fussy.

A good tunic can be a wardrobe hero, and this gauze version is easy to dress up or down. It’s made with 100% organic cotton and comes in 3 colors. Wear it loose over slim white pants and add a long pendant necklace, or give it a front tuck into shorts. The breathable fabric makes it ideal for warm, humid days.

Easy Summer Shorts With Style

These fun printed shorts add a little personality without being loud. They’re a lightweight cotton with a paperbag waist and self tie. Add silver jewelry and a straw tote, and a big hat to be ready for a warm-weather outing that doesn’t involve sacrificing comfort.

The paper bag waist gives these tie-waist shorts a fresh, feminine shape while the soft tencel keeps them feeling elevated. Tuck in a fitted tee or the reversible tank to define your waist, or layer with a lightweight blouse for a breezier feel.

If you prefer longer shorts for more coverage, these thigh length patch pocket shorts are a great option. They’re a cotton/lyocel/spandex blends that hits just above the knee and have utility-inspired patch pockets that give them a more modern edge. Style with a linen button-up and leather slides, or pair with a striped tee and denim jacket for a coastal look. These come in 2 colors.

Dresses That Work for Every Summer Occasion

This printed splitneck dress is a no-brainer for hot days when you still want to look pulled together. The palm/fan print looks fresh without being overpowering, and the dress hits at a flattering spot just above the knees. It’s fully lined with on-seam pockets, which I know so many of you love as much as I do. Add a belt if you want to define the waist, or wear it loose with flat sandals, and a white bucket hat for weekend ease.

This Nomad tiered dress is a statement making dress in fresh shades of green with white. It’s straps are bra friendly and the maxi makes it wearable for so many occasions. Style it simply with hoop earrings and strappy sandals, or throw on a denim jacket and a stack of festive bracelets for some extra oomph.

This cap sleeve maxi dress is the kind of item that makes summer dressing easy. The cap sleeves give a bit of shoulder coverage, and the optional tie belt with tassel and beads at the end, lets you play with the shape. I could see this with silver jewelry and simple sandals for dinner out, or tossed over a swimsuit for a poolside lunch.

  1. Great post! J. Jill is one of my favorite stores. I love the pull-on denim jeans. I bought them in the dark wash a while ago and now I have them in the lighter wash. So glad J. Jill is doing pull-on denim! Love it!

    1. I love how comfy it is too

  2. I love this blog info today. You have so many new things for me to consider and watch for sales!!! I stretched myself this spring and instead of buying new regular colored denim I bought two colored pieces from Chico’s. I absolutely love them and they’re more versatile than I thought they’d be.

    1. Stretching ourselves is one of the best ways to make new discoveries! It helps us refine and define our taste.

  3. Loved you in the light blue shirt! Neutrals? Nah!

    1. Lol, I bought that too 💙

That aqua color dress worn as a duster over the tank with white jeans is my favorite try on today. It looks like the outfit was designed especially for you, because you look effortlessly beautiful and relaxed in it. I’m trying to make up my mind whether to get the aqua or blue tank for myself even though I hardly ever wear pastels, but I think these colors have enough saturation that I won’t look washed out. I can see if the color works for me and then buy the dress if it does. I did just order the boysenberry linen shirt to satisfy my jewel tone addiction, however. LOL!

    1. These dresses are not washed out at all. I worry the blue is too saturated on me but I’m not going to let it stop me 🤣

  5. I just love your hair, Jennifer! I hope you like it too – then you will have your new stylist. JJill’s casual clothes of quality fabrics and construction are some of my favorites. You look great in the new collection, and I have noted a couple of items (like the slate blue linen shirt and the cap sleeve dress) to add to my summer wardrobe. I always get the best ideas from you!

    1. Thanks so much Ruth! That slate blue is so pretty!

  6. I love the shirt in the pale blue and the pink! It does look great with the matching tank top. I wear bralettes and am afraid the straps might show. The gauze dress in light blue is gorgeous on you. I love cotton gauze in the hot summer.

    1. I’m a big fan of cotton gauze in the summer too!

  7. I love these try on sessions….Inspiring! And info about sizing, styling is really helpful. Thank you, Jennifer.

    1. My pleasure Linda! I’m so glad it was helpful.

  8. Thanks for the great J Jill post today. It’s one of my favorite stores. I had to laugh out loud about the collar story! People always say to me, “Oh, honey, your collar is standing up” like I wasn’t even aware. They mean well….haha! Have a wonderful day. So glad I found your blog for more style inspiration.

    1. I liked a lot in this collection. Some collections are hit and miss, this is a good one! So glad you found us too Lauren!

  9. I have the cap-sleeve maxi dress in a different print from a couple of years ago. It is so versatile- perfect for travel, date night, summer weddings. And so easy to wear.

  10. I notice that you pop the collar on some of these items. I personally love the look of the popped collar. Can you explain – why does it look better than leaving the collar lie flat? [I think it does!]

However, when I try to pull this on in my own life, I just can’t do it. It looks ‘affected’ on me. And so I leave it flat 🙁

Any words of advice? Thanks for the great post!

    1. I think a popped collar adds a bit of structure near the face and an air of insouciance that just appeals to me. Be prepared, when the lady next to you in line reaches up to adjust and flatten yours out, simply say thanks, but no, I like to wear my collars up….true story happened to me. I also have a blog post on How to Pop Your Collar and Keep it Up

  11. I absolutely love the look of the cotton gauze shirt dress – both over slacks and alone. I’ve never thought about wearing a dress like that over slacks before seeing your picture.

I’m also partial to the printed split neck dress. I have a popover with the same palm fan print – one of my favorites and I have to stop myself from wearing it too often. I’m just drawn to that print and color for some reason.

Thanks for sharing your try-on. You always have such amazing styling tips. As a woman in the over-60 crowd, you give me the courage and incentive to experiment.

    1. It makes me so happy to hear this gives you courage to experiment. If not now, when? Go for it April! Have fun trying new ideas.

    2. Tracy Ajello says:

Talbots has a green and blue linen plan print dress I just ordered that’d be great too.

  12. I have the gauze shirtdress from another year (sleeves a bit shorter) and absolutely love it. Also, despite many washings, it still looks new.

    1. Did yours shrink? I’m unsure if I bought the right color.

  13. Gay Manning says:

Like these looks, especially the dresses🤗

  14. Those blues and greens are beautiful colors for summer and the items you’re modeling look fantastic on you!
