Weekend Reading 03/05/25
Happy Saturday, ladies. I mentioned yesterday that my left bunion is really acting up, and I’ve also noticed that the arthritis pain in my thumbs is in overdrive, so I’m wondering if something new in my diet or lifestyle is increasing the inflammation level in my system. Oy, if it’s not one thing, it’s another.

I’m holding my youngest grandson while we excitedly watch my oldest grandson play first base at his Little League Game. He is obsessed with his older brother, just obsessed, which is so cute to see.
What You Loved This Week- The Bestsellers
- This pink linen dress was very popular with readers. Mine arrived for a sponsored post with Talbots, and it’s sooo pretty.
- This chambray skirt was also a best seller and looks so perfect for summer.
- These J.Crew Factory shorts were also a hit this week. In fact, you bought more shorts than I expected. I bought these ones in navy.
- These organic linen shorts were super popular.
- I’ve had my eye on this rose-colored cotton shirt for weeks, and several of you ordered it, so I decided I needed to. I think it will be gorgeous over my slim white jeans.

Keep those precious grandsons faces out of photos. Keep them safe in this predatory world today. I only see my great grandchildren in private group chats that are family only.
My list on Met gowns are pretty traditional ball gowns. My favorites are Taylor Swift in Oscar de la Renta, pink and very feminine 2014. Bee Shafer in a lovely purple 2008 Nina Ricci ball gown. Blake Lively in two gorgeous gowns, one wine and silver, 2018 by Versace and her gorgeous copper and aqua 2022 gown by Versace. The naked look doesn’t appeal to me nor the outrageous. Fun blog Jennifer!
I’m not a fan of the naked look either, Sydney 🙂
What size did you get in the rose colored shirt?
I ordered a medium because I love the oversized look.
I’m just going to tell you my arthritis/inflammation/prediabetes story. I am not suggesting or recommending anything.
I have severe arthritis in my hips and cervical spine. I get tough bloating/inflammation in bed at night. My doctor recently told me I am pre diabetic due to a fasting blood level of 109.
Now…I am 76 years old, 5’6”, weigh 130, walk 6 miles a day, do an arthritis session in the pool 4 days a week and gentle Pilates 4 days a week. I cook all my own food, mostly vegetarian.
So I am trying time restricted eating, 16 hours fasting, an 8 hour window. I count macros and have lowered my carbs (rice cakes, potatoes, beans.) I no longer have inflammation in bed. I started with the book Feast, Fast, Repeat by Gin Stephen’s. There are other books and podcasts, too. Dr. Jason Fung is good, but too , but more targeted to those are have full-blown type 2 diabetes. I will retest my lipid panel in 8 weeks.
Yep! You’re right! If it’s not one thing it is another.
Thank you so much for sharing this with us Linda. My A1C is borderline high and going up, for no good reason. I have read one book by Dr Fung and think he’s great. I’ll check his others out and chat with my Dr some more.
I understand your caution. Just this morning I made the mistake of accepting a Facebook friend request from someone claiming to be a young woman in her 30s. The conversation quickly became very creepy though and I immediately unfriended her. I only accepted the request because she had liked one of my blog posts and we had a Facebook friend in common. You can never be too careful, it seems.
OH NO! You were wise to unfriend here.
Hi Jennifer, I am at least the 4th generation of women in my maternal line to suffer the distortion of bunions. I discovered about 10 years ago that Good Feet arch supports are the solution for me. They redistribute my weight off the front of my foot and toward the middle where it belongs. I can’t walk across the room without them, but they make most shoes comfortable and many downright marvelous. Pricey but they last for years and my bunions have not gotten worse, honestly. Worth an in-store analysis and try-on.
I found one in the next town over. Thanks for mentioning them, I will make an appointment to see them.
The best pair of jeans I own are actually a pair from the men’s department at Banana Republic Outlet. The pockets! They are long enough to hold my phone vertically! What is with women clothing designers and the lack of or inadequate pockets?
I agree! And phones just keep getting larger too
I went to met gala in the late 90s as the guest of friend who worked there. It was full of stars, but with no cell phones, people were just mingling around and having cocktails. I was in my early 20s and broke so my dress (a red silk ballgown) was from the original Century 21. It was a lovely night, but it’s not what my goddaughters seem to think it’s like! Or, more likely, it’s changed.
How fun! I think it’s changed a lot!
Good Morning Jennifer: As you know, I have published a food blog for years and I think you’re smart for not showing their faces. I’ve also received some disturbing comments. So I “get it”. And seeing that cardigan again, has convinced me to order it. I don’t remember what you had it on with in the last photo, but it looks great with those light wash jeans and a white shirt. Love that look.
Strangers on the internet can be very scary. You’ll love that cardi. The color is gorgeous
Spending time with grandkids is wonderful! I have 4 little ones and don’t blame you for not showing their face. I hope you have a wonderful weekend.
Thanks Darlene! Enjoy those sweet ones.
I loved the chambray skirt, but I have resolved to not buy skirts or pants without pockets. I wish the clothing designers would understand that women need pockets! Zippered pockets are a plus, as are deep pockets!
I love pockets too!
I agree Nancy. Where are we suppose to put our phone or key fob? My daughter in law has been known to tuck hers into her bra. And when we do have pockets they are often too small for our cell phones. Carrying a purse is not always convenient. Frustrating!
@Joanna. My brother in law kept losing his phone and car keys, so we bought him a lanyard for his phone and keys. You can tuck it under your clothes without it being too noticeable
