Weekly Reading 07.12.25
Thank you for your kind comments on my hair in yesterday’s post. I am finding a blunter cut easier to style. Yes, it’s flatter than when I had more layers, but I’m also getting used to that, too.

This is what I wore for my second day of try-ons at the Nsale last week. I’ve owned this linen shirt dress for several years and love it so much that I wish I’d bought it in two colors. I have a story to tell (but no photo) about a different outfit I wore to preview the sale. I’m still mulling over what happened when I was wearing that outfit. It will require a separate musings post, so stay tuned for that…once I put words to how it made me rethink my style.
On My Radar:
Dresses have come to my rescue more times than I can count in the last few weeks so I’m on the lookout for ones that fit my style vibe. They need to be free of puff, pattern, and more than one flounce. Shirtdresses are my preferred shape so that’s what I’m focusing on.
- This one looks fabulous, but I don’t have a dressy occasion to wear it.
- I love this jersey shirtdress in navy and it comes in petite!
- This crisp Madewell striped one is on sale and comes in petite too.
Last week I wandered into a J.Crew and wandered right back out. How does anyone shop in the store these days with the limited stock the have on the floor? I wanted to try on this relaxed summer sweater, but the store was full of cashmere.
These Derry Illusion are one of my very favorite style of pull-on jeans. I ordered the white and am thrilled to discover they’re an antique white which looks classier than bright white for some reason. This Milan Travel set is also on my radar in the desert shade.

Thanks for reading, and be sure you wear what makes you feel confident.

Your hair is lovely and probably easier to work with than the layers. I’m growing out a very short pixie cut which is getting to the awkward stage. I guess I will need to find a new stylist now that mine moved up to Denver. In a small town, this can be a difficult search. I’m good on all of my summer clothes. It is a lovely 75 degree sunny day here in southern Colorado.
Thanks for the info. Suddenly I feel like I have no summer clothes to wear except golf and workout clothes! I’ll have to check out the sales.
You had mentioned on your blog last week that you would not be without AmLactin foot repair but I just wanted to tell you that I went on Amazon and ordered the AmLactin Daily Nourish for dry to rough skin and I LOVE it so I wanted to thank you for sharing the foot cream with us. I have very dry skin and this stuff seems to do the trick so if you haven’t tried it I suggest you do.
That’s awesome. Thanks for letting me know!
Ah, Frank and Eileen. I resisted this brand for a long time, but am now a big fan. It started with the Derry denim. Wearing a pair as I write. I don’t know how F&E has managed to develop denim that’s stretchy but not baggy yet comfortable enough to sleep in. I could not believe that I was paying this much for a pair of jeans, but they have become a wardrobe fav.
Now I can’t get the Desert travel set out of my head!
Same! My daughter is obsessed with her Derry jeans too. They are better than I could have imagined
Like you, I’m holding onto summer. It’s only July and fall weather is still a ways off. While I love fall, with its slightly cool temps, switched over wardrobe and pretty fall foliage, it leads into winter which is my least favourite season.
The only problem is that stores rush the season and with smaller retailers your size may sell out before you shop. So, sadly I’ll be looking in August.
Wish you could do a post on shift dresses. That’s the style that always looks good on me, no puff, no belt needed, just simple shifts. And in a price range where you could throw it on with sandals to go to the grocery or run errands, (i.e. Not Tuckernuk!). Everything I see is layered tiers or puffy or ditsy floral print. None of that fits me-I like sleek, simple, uncomplicated…any tips?
Thanks for the suggestion, I will work on that!
I love an easy dress, and have worn Talbot’s LINEN SHIFT DRESS in Pink that you recommended on repeat this summer. So light and breezy and flattering. The fact that I snagged it on sale was even better! 🩷
Awesome!
Your hair does look great! The blunt cut automatically gives a lot of hair with volume. It took me a hot minute to figure out the layers were not my friend in the volume department.
Ditto. I wore some for many years. I think very few (as in one) can help but not much.
Thanks for the info this morning. I just ordered from J Crew Factory for the first time. I got the ivory and navy striped hoodie top. It’ll fit into my fall stuff nicely 😊
I have it and love it!
