Weekly Reading 08.30.25
Hello Saturday, and welcome to your weekend. It’s a long one for many of us, so I hope you plan something nice for yourself…even if it’s a nice-smelling foot cream and a good book.

We’ve had an unexpected, and very sad, emergency, and had to fly back to California this weekend. I try to keep as much of my private life off the web as possible, but after I’ve had a chance to process this, I’ll probably share a bit more on Monday.
On my radar this week:
- The good news is that some of the swelling from my Fraxel treatment has gone down, but I’m peeling like a snake and still pretty red. I’m able to cover it with my No Makeup Makeup, which really impresses me. This stuff is great.
- I spotted this Everglade color in Eileen Fisher last week and was intrigued. In the corduroy, it has a cool undertone, and in the other fabrics, it is warmer. I’ll go in soon for more investigation, but it is on my radar, as a may-need-to-try.
- This fall, my nickname may become the Ponte Queen😂. The fabric holds everything in place, has great structure, and stretches for comfort…with very little wrinkling. That’s a win in my book. I’ve heard great reports about Quince ponte, so I just ordered these slim leg pants in the Steel shade to try. While I was at it, I also bought these wider-leg pants to try.
- It’s almost cashmere season, and I love a great cashmere tee, whether worn on its own or layered. I own several of these and decided it would be fun to try their new stripe…I love that it is ivory, not bright white.
Labor Day Weekend Highlights:
Almost everything seems to be on sale this weekend, so I just wanted to call out some of the best deals you may want to shop…or the ones I’m shopping 🙂
JENNi KANE – 20% off almost everything. This is when I buy Jenni Kane because her pieces are of exquisite quality, but very expensive. The Cotton Hayes Crewneck Cardigan looks like a great option. Her cult-favorite Fisherman Sweater is my all-time favorite sweater. I have 3 colors, and counting (all bought on sale). The Claude Long Sleeve Tee looks like a great basic, and I love the look of the Avery Crewneck in the stripe.
ANN TAYLOR – 30% off your full price purchase, $99 dresses, jackets, and shoes. I’m always happy to see a finished hem like on these Bootcut Jeans. Their Weekend Collection looked fabulous in the store last week, including his Crewneck Tweed Jacket, which screams fall (I wish these colors were flattering on me). I also loved the look of this Woven Drawstring Bucket Bag and this Wavy Mixed Metal Cuff Bracelet.
MM LAFLEUR – Labor Day sale – Use code LDW20 for an additional 20% off already-discounted items. The Milo Wide Leg Jeans come in some great trending fall colors, and the Kylan Vacation Top is such a pretty shade of blue.
RING CONCIERGE – has their FALL sale with 20% off. I am adding several items to my Holiday wishlist, like one of these Stackable Gold Cloud Bangle Bracelets, and these Echo Silver Hoops….I’m a big fan of sterling. I know just who would love this Mini Diamond Tennis Bracelet for Christmas, and if she’s very lucky, it will be this one. Come to think of it, my birthday was such a gong show, I never did get a gift:)
CHICO’S – End of summer sale, up to 75% off sale, 25% off new tops, $69 select pants, and 25% off select dresses. This Cropped Denim Shacket is a perfect fall jacket, as is this Cashmere Blend Pullover Sweater Poncho in Deep Chianti. I’m seeing a lot of burgundy for fall, all with varying names.
ANTHROPOLOGIE – an extra 40% off sale, and 25% off premium denim. It’s a great time to update your denim for fall. The Frame Le Slim Palazzo High Rise Wide Leg Jeans are amazing, and these PAIGE Anessa Welt Utility Pocket High-Rise Crop Wide-Leg Jeans are fun when you want a little color.
J.JILL – an extra 40% off sale. This Pure Jill Gauze Henley Top and Cropped Pants set is fabulous, and each piece is over half off! These slim leg pants are great year-round and come in lots of colors.
TALBOTS – 25% off your full price purchase, and an extra 70% off markdowns. If you love red, his Italian Melton Double Breasted Coat is stunning. This cute Faux Suede Crescent Bag is right on trend for fall.
J.CREW – Up to 40% off hundreds of items. I tried on these Denim Trouser Jeans last week and they’re so flattering. You’ll see my try-on next week. I also tried on this Bridgette Lady Jacket in Tweed, and the quality is amazing. I only saw the black and ivory options, but the deep red colorway is fabulous for fall. The Oversized Cashmere Wrap is a must-have for travel, and also makes a great gift.
LANDS’ END has 50% off sitewide and up to 70% off summer clearance. The Squall Packable Jacket has been a consistent bestseller for the last few weeks, and it’s almost the season to need it!
In case you missed it:
- Monday Musings with a life update…it’s a challenge
- Skin Care & Beauty Round-up
- Inside Nordstrom’s Dressing Room Try-On
- Comfortable Fall Shoes That Look Modern
Have a wonderful weekend, and be sure to hug your loved ones extra tightly.

You deserve and should DEMAND lol birthday presents! We all have a finite number and everyone should celebrate one another.
Agreed!
My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.
Thank you
I so love your style. Sorry to hear about your emergency. I will be praying for you and your family.
Thanks Gayle
Thinking of you, Jennifer
Hugs…

Agree with the other readers. Take the time you need. We are here for you. I purchased the Cobalt blue packable squall jacket from LandsEnd. I guess it is time to retire my 20 year old Sierra Design jacket. I need it for chilly wind not rain. We don’t walk in rain unless we get caught out in it. I also loved the pointe knit pants in Steel. I’m afraid that the waistband would be too tight for me as I have only five inch’s between my waist and hips. I hate getting baggy hips and thighs just to fit my waist. My size should be a 10 for hips and is a 14 for waist on most sizing charts. Sigh.
Prayers for you and your family Jennifer.
Thank you
Sending you a big hug. Take care

Oh Jennifer, my thoughts are with you and your family. Wishing you the best outcome possible. Hugs. xo
Thanks xo
Take care of yourself! Do what you have to do for yourself and your family.
Most of your items are way too expensive for me, but I use your examples as inspiration. I do appreciate it when you show less expensive items. I volunteer at a thrift store that is more selective in what we put on the floor–we take care in our displays and our items. At least three people inspect every item before it’s on the floor. I have learned so much working there and reading blogs from you and other people. Even though I am 70 and have various health issues I have always liked shopping and clothing and am always learning.
Take care!
Be sure to take care of yourself during this emergency! Will be thinking of you. Don’t know why my message is double spaced!
Wishing you and your family the best in your time of need.
Thank you
Blessings to you and your loved ones, Jennifer.
I’m anxious to hear your thoughts on Quince. They have so many classic pieces and I am ready to order an item or two. Prayers that all will be well in your world.
Wishing you and your family well, Jennifer.
Hi Jennifer, I’m intrigued by your recommendation for the No Makeup makeup. I’m not a regular foundation wearer, but would probably look better if I did. Would you mind telling me the shade you wear? I feel that my skin tone is very similar to yours.
Thank you
I wear the lightest shade, porcelain.
Good morning!
I stopped by J Jill yesterday. They added a lot of nice things to their fall collection. I found several pieces to add to my closet!
On another note: I often want to leave a comment, but the comment option is not available. The only way to enter a comment is to reply to someone else’s comment. The missing leave a comment option seems to be gone when a lot of people have commented. Just wanted to let you know. I remember someone else mentioning it before. So I suspect it could be a glitch worth knowing about.
I hope everyone enjoys the weekend and if traveling, travel safely.
Thanks for letting me know! I will ask my technical person. I noticed it last week as well.
I’ve also had problems leaving comments—maybe this was why. I’m always told they are pending but I don’t think they ever appear (if I’ve missed seeing them, I apologize).
I wanted to share that my husband & I spent a week in Vancouver in July & it was glorious! I truly didn’t want to leave. The weather was lovely, no humidity (we live in the southern US), having water & mountain views was incredible, and we just loved spending time seeing all the beautiful outdoor sights, eating delicious food, etc. I see why you love it there.
Sending good thoughts your way regarding your family situation.
I’m so sorry for whatever happened. And as a gardener I am team summer forever. Always sad when my garden goes to sleep even though I know it needs to! And as a deep winter, fall colors in clothes, decor, etc are my least favorite though I appreciate them on others.
I think it’s the change of seasons I find enjoyable.
Sending support and a big warm hug your way for you and your family. We feel like we know you, but if this is personal then this is between you and your loved ones. Take good care.
Thank you for your thoughts.
I hope things work out for the best and I will be thinking of you today. I respect your decision whether it’s to share or not to share. Take care, Jennifer.

Whatever is the sad emergency, please take time to deal with the issue and the emotional toll on you and your loved ones. You are the hardest working blogger I’ve seen. Although you love what you do, it’s called “work” for a reason. Take care and be blessed.
Thanks xo
