A well-fitted blazer is one of the most versatile items a woman can own, and Talbots nailed it with this Shetland blazer. I’m between petite and regular sizing, but the 10P was the perfect fit for my 5’4″ frame. This piece has all the structure you want from a blazer—perfectly placed seams, a sharp lapel, and elegant detailing—but it’s also soft and cozy, thanks to the Shetland wool blend.

This blazer is a workhorse for fall. You can easily dress it up with trousers or layer it over a dress. For daytime outings, throw it on over jeans and loafers for a polished casual vibe. The slightly nipped-in waist provides just the right amount of shape without feeling too snug. I especially love that it has silver buttons for a nice change of pace.

Corduroy is making a comeback, and I can’t stop adding more to my own closet. These corduroy flares are fantastic. I originally purchased them in the color Rose (see me wearing them here), and I loved them so much that I went back to get them in this rich camel called Almond Buff. They have the perfect amount of stretch, and the combination of the high waist and slight flare makes my legs look longer—especially with heeled boots or pumps.

The name says it all—this turtleneck really is perfect. It’s buttery soft with just the right amount of stretch to keep you comfortable all day. Plus, the lightweight fabric makes it ideal for layering under blazers, cardigans, or coats without adding any bulk. The color selection is great with lots of mood-boosting colors this season! If you love a pop of color, check out “Heliotrope,” “Red Pop,” “Dark Ruby,” or “Radiant Sapphire.” My black one has been a workhorse in my cool-weather wardrobe for years.

Talbots has been a reliable go-to resource for size-inclusive fashion for over 75 years. I know many of my readers love to shop it as much as I do because we can rely on them to carry modern classics that will elevate our wardrobe.

One thing I love in there new book is all the grey cotton sweaters since I can’t wear wool. I will get into the store so I can try on for sizing. I have often changed my diet with more protein and added exercise which also helps with aging.
Jennifer, I smiled when I saw your post today because I just bought that blazer yesterday at my local Talbots store. I went in looking for vests and just fell in love with this blazer. In my former life I wore blazers and suits every day…and gave that all away when I retired. I wasn’t sure how the blazer would look on my more mature shape or how the warm tones would look with my silvery grey hair. I’m so happy I took the time to try it on because it worked on all dimensions. There are enough cool colors in there so it looks fine with my hair and the fit was perfect. I know it will become a wardrobe workhorse for me. I just love it!
Am I the only one who won’t wear corduroy? I think it has an unpleasant odor when it gets in the sun. Maybe it’s just me?
It depends on the fiber content.
My Talbots catalog arrived a couple of days ago. Oh my what beautiful sweaters! I love your cords in the dark walnut color. The blue opal color on a cable knit sweater has my name on it. Jennifer you do look great in your outfits and it has been a while since I wore a 8P. We do look similar only I’m an older, shorter and obviously fluffier than you as I have to buy 12P to be able to button the waistband! Then the hips and thighs are a little too big. I have noticed that the petite sized pants are getting too long for my height and inseam of 28”. Height of 61 1/2”. Did your rose cords shrink in length a little?
They did a tiny bit because they “accidently” went in the dryer when someone was helping with the laundry.
I’m eager to hear how your new regime goes as I need to be doing same. Avoiding sweets is so difficult because everywhere I go, there they are!
I have been a Talbots shopper for 30 years, my “go to” for work clothes and now my “go to” in retirement for casual. In the past I had several of their blazers in my closet. Unfortunately they just don’t fit me as well as my body has changed with more weight in my midriff. I need size petite small for sleeve length and a more narrow shoulder fit, but that size is too snug at the waist. I also prefer a longer length these days to hide my very flat derrière. Do you have suggestions for a brand that offers longer length blazers? Thanks for your post; I also love Talbot turtlenecks!
Try knit blazers which have more give in the fabric. I seldom button mine closed but I like them to “appear” that they could.
Chico’s has fabulous sweater knit blazers. They come in several colors and provide some stretch while still looking structured and polished. I have 3!
I love your outfit today. The colors are so beautiful on you. I bought the cords in petite and love them. The length works with both flats and booties. Love the idea of pairing them with a tweed blazer.
These cords are really nice, I agree!
I really like all the blazers. I would like to start wearing them again. It seems like my wardrobe is getting way too sporty. We’ve been spending a lot of time golfing and strength training. I really have a gap in my wardrobe now that I hope to fix in this winter. Thanks for all your great posts
That’s a challenge that many of us have. Having a casual lifestyle, but not wanting to dress too sporty. I know it’s a challenge for me.
Great post. I’m planning on getting a pair of the flare cords, maybe the walnut, which looks to be a really rich color.
I am having the same weight issue which is not good as winter is approaching. I am doing the same as you but am cutting back on starches (especially bread, which is my favorite starch) as well.
Interestingly, I read that startches turn to sugar in your system so I am limiting it as well.
Dear Jennifer,
I really enjoy your posts! I share the same sense of style that you do. I would love to know some of your secrets to keeping such a nice figure. It would be so helpful to know what kind of food and exercise regimes you follow.
Thank you for all the tips you share!
Sincerely,
Becky
Thanks Becky. I’ve started a new regime just lately because my weight was climbing. I’ll share it soon but basically I’m cutting out all sweets, adding more proteins and moving my body more.
