What’s New at Chico’s: Late Summer Try-On for Women Over 50
It’s been a while since I stopped into Chico’s, so I popped in briefly to see what’s new. They’re having an amazing sale, so hopefully these items are still in stock.

If you’re new here, a try-on is when I visit a store and style their latest collection so readers can see what’s new and get some ideas on how to wear it. I’m 5’4 “, which puts me on the cusp of being petite. I have wide shoulders and straight hips with no obvious curves. They carry some petite and some in tall sizes. You can see my other try-ons here.

Color names are a funny thing. Some bring a certain shade to mind, and when you see them in person, they’re nothing like it. That’s the case with these “russet red” Girlfriend Wide-Leg Crop Jeans. The name conjures up rust and warm undertones to me, but these are actually cool-based. They’re a soft, stretch denim with a 26″ inseam. They have Chico’s built-in So Slimming shapewear solution, which holds everything in place.
I paired it with this no-iron shirt in a geometric print that picks up the color of the jeans. The fabric has a sateen finish, but I didn’t find it particularly shiny. The front is styled to be tied in this manner, but it was too long for my torso, so I simply undid the lower button and tied the shirt a bit shorter. Of course, that made the ends of the tie longer, so you could double the knot to shorten it.

These pull-on wide-leg crops are a washed sage color with 5-pocket styling. They have a faux fly and button closure, which effectively camouflages the pull-on feature. This inseam is also 26″, but they are available in petite with a 24″ inseam. I paired them with this leopard print linen top. It’s a pullover style with raglan sleeves that have an elastic at the bottom of the sleeve and around the bottom, creating a blouson effect.

Golf anyone? Chico’s Zenergy line is extremely popular, so I decided to try on this pleated skort. It’s a full 18.5″ long, making it one of the more modest skorts I’ve tried. This comes in 5 colors, and the fabric has a UPF rating of 50+ to block both UVA and UVB rays. The shorts underneath are 5.25″ long, so it really looks like a skirt, but with hidden coverage. I popped on this half-zip mockneck top in the prettiest dephinium blue. It’s a lightweight, wrinkle-resistant fabric that also offers protection from the sun.
Chico’s Zenergy collection is not just for golf! It’s where polished style meets effortless comfort, with wrinkle-resistant, UPF 50+ fabrics that stretch, breathe, and move with you. It’s also a perfect capsule-ready line for travel days, errands, and everything in between. Here’s more from the line:

This soutache embroidered top caught my eye right away, and naturally, I had to grab some pants to try it on with. In hindsight, it’s one of those loose tops that really needs a slim leg on the bottom to balance the shape. These Brigitte pants would’ve been a better match, but I paired them here with these belted twill utility crops instead…which add visual weight exactly where I don’t need it.
But let’s back up to the top. It’s lovely—black embroidery on a soft ecru background, with relaxed 3/4 sleeves that are full and floaty. It has a relaxed silhouette, which I always appreciate…even if it takes a little styling finesse. I half-tucked it so you could get a better look at the pants, which are great in their own right, just not with this top.
Chico’s Outfit Ideas
Chico’s has several pieces that nod to the western or cowboy trend, which is continuing into fall. For many women, it’s an integral part of their everyday style, and they invest in artisanal pieces for their wardrobes. I see much of it in warm tones, so I thought it would be fun to create a look in cool tones for women who might like to experiment with the look.

Here’s a wearable look for now and into the fall with elevated “western” details. The stretch jersey dress comes in cocao, or this russet red, which I’ve already discovered, has a cool undertone. I paired it with comfy Vionic flats and a coordinating black suede shoulder bag. I accessorized with a western-inspired necklace, earrings, and a cuff bracelet for a subtle take on “cowboy chic.”
Here are a few more Western-inspired pieces from Chico’s that look like fun:
Is Western style something you like to add to your wardrobe?

It’s fun seeing you try on some new outfits. The embroidered top is very pretty and looks great with the black stacks.
I’m so glad you do these try ones. I always find them helpful.
And you’re so right about color! Having no stores near, I have to shop online. I always check reviews for color info but it’s not always mentioned. In this case, I would have breezed right past the red russet, thinking it would be warm and brown leaning. I don’t know that the western look would suit me but boy, I do love that dress and jewelry!
Thx, Jennifer!
I love the western look too. Am I limiting myself by not trying it?
Maybe you have a similar long dress? you could just try the necklace to see if the look appeals. I think It’s the necklace that really anchors that outfit. LOL…I may have talked myself into the necklace! 🤣
Haha! I do have similar dress…maybe you just talked me into the necklace to try.
I love Chico’s Southwest style jewelry. I have a great silver collection from the 60s era. That bracelet looks just like one of my cuffs. About 30 years ago you could find in antique shops. Glad I started collecting then as the prices ate sky high now.
I love Chicos jeans! I actually wore a pair this morning on our dog walk as it was only 64 degrees. The cooler temperature is heavenly. However, I’m down in weight to 135 lbs. and they had to be held up with my elastic belt! I’m going to have to invest in some smaller jeans! You look great in the light blue top and that cute skort. I also need petite sizing but I can wear regular crops as full length pants. Chicos seem to be more forgiving on the waistline which is still fluffy on me.
Congrats Sydney! My weight is going the other direction this summer.
Cute! Cute! Cute! I love everything you tried on! I love Chico’s. They seem to be the closest to my style and I was just there the other day for their fabulous sale. Of course I ended up buying things that weren’t on sale. In their new arrivals they have a “leopard lines” no iron shirt. I was hoping that maybe you tried that on.
I’d love to see how you would style it!
I didn’t see that when I was in or I would have style it for sure. It’s a classic.
Yes to Western!!!! Janis
You look so pretty in that pale blue half zip top!
It’s interesting that you discussed western style. My friend came back from Arizona with the cutest western style outfit on. She had a belted striped skirt with just a white tee under a short lightweight jean jacket. She always wears turquoise jewelry. Just so cute. I love going into Chicos and looking but here they don’t carry petites and I’m not sure on their sizing.
