How to Wear White Jeans Now And Later
Admittedly, I live in a mild climate, but even if I didn’t, I would wear white jeans year-round. No white after labor day is a fashion rule I’ve long since abandoned. White jeans keep you as warm as blue or black denim and are just as neutral so why save them? I know there are folks who never wear white before Memorial Day or after Labor Day, but if you do, here’s how to wear white jeans now and later. There’s no need to allow great pieces to languish in your wardrobe between seasons because a great pair of white jeans is hard to find.

For mild spring days, a simple sweater with white jeans and slip-on sneakers is perfect. A fuller-leg jean style would allow for ankle socks, but I’m staying warm enough with these no-show Sheec socks. Here I added a scarf for a level of warmth and I love how it dresses up a simple outfit. I promise I don’t wear these sneakers every day, but it seems that way in pictures š

For chilly spring days, a parka and booties do the trick. Opt for neutral-colored booties like taupe, pale gray, or camel for a lower contrast than black. I made the assumption that a pair of flats and a sweater would work on this day, but it turned out to be freezing! I was racing out to get a haircut (hence no earrings) and had to switch to ankle boots with a parka to stay warm.

I’ve been on the hunt for a pair of off-white jeans that don’t cost a fortune and don’t have a warm undertone. I was thrilled to find this pair at a great price. These Madewell High-Rise Perfect Vintage jeans have a tapered leg, the perfect amount of stretch, and are totally opaque.

Animal print pairs beautifully with white jeans, no matter the shade. This animal print blouse is in shades of aqua and blue and is very lightweight. It’ll be fabulous when the temperatures heat up, but for now, it needs some extra coverage so this denim jacket works perfectly.

When the weather warms up, I pair mine with sandals and sneakers alike because nothing says summer like a great pair of white jeans.

Do you wear white jeans all year round?
Thanks for reading and remember to wear what makes you feel confident.

I never tire of blue and white together. Itās like wearing a āWelcome Springā sign. Thanks for the tip on the Madewell white jeans. As a Midwest gal, I swap out white denim for white corduroy in the winter for the same effect, albeit a little warmer. And if the white gets dirty, thatās why I have a washing machine.
P.S. Thanks for the shout out to World Kitchen yesterday. Chef Jose sets a good example.
He sure does:)
I admit to being a rule follower for white pants. With the exception of winter white wool pants for dressy events, I never, ever wear white pants after Labor Day (unless I travel). Like others up north, I also find it’s too messy to wear white pants ‘out of season.’ Our snow is melting and we’re now in mud season, so my daily footgear are rubber boots or beaten-up leathers for walking. Definitely not nice boots or sneakers. Have you noticed that practicality trumps fashion for many of us?
I have noticed that
I love white jeans, but living in the rainy Pacific Northwest coast, I do not wear until spring. Just too much danger of mud splashes. Guess I could wear them in the house, though.
First: Girl, those Ecco slip ons are gorgeous! And yes, you do wear them a lot! I have approximately six pairs of white jeans in my closet. Some straight leg and some flare bottoms. They are great to pair with practically anything in my wardrobe. And I do agree that they can be worn year round. The one personal rule that I live by is that whatever I wear, it must have pockets. I guess this comes from my previous career in uniform, but I simply canāt abide pants, skirts or dresses without pockets. So does put some limits to my choices but that is my personal choice. Love your posts. Have a beautiful day.
Happ Tuesday, Rhoda. I love pockets too
As i live in the Midwest where we have lots of rain and snowy days, i do not wear white or any light colored jeans much in Winter. I do take them to Florida for cruises in February or March. E
I love to wear white jeans in the summer. Where I live in the U.P. of Michigan I would not wear them in the winter due to our sloppy, snowy, slushy weather. It’s not conducive to wearing white clothing. I have a couple pair of white jeans from talbots, and white pants from JJill and wear them frequently in the warm months.
You are always stylish, but that first outfit is going to cause me to go shopping! Silver tennis shoes with white jeans and navy look so fresh!
I just ordered a new pair of NYDJ white jeans from QVC that were described as opaque & lightweight. Living in the Southwest, I have no problem abandoning the white pant rule. Between white & blue denim, these are pretty much my go to colors.
Your puff coat is a perfect neutral for you & youāre modeling great outfits today!
Julie, have you checked out the Diane Gilman jeans on HSN? The white one are not see through and they give without losing their shape after washing.
Yes I wear white jeans all year long. Long ago got rid of no white anything. Outfits very comfy looking and stylish. I have to mention what beautiful backgrounds you choose for photo shoots š gorgeous scenery always. Gives a small glimpse of your worldš
Thanks Dianne. We like to find fun backgrounds.
Iām a California gal too. White jeans, like blue jeans are a staple in my wardrobe. I wear them year round, they go with everything.
As I turned the calendar page today to March, I was hit with the first pangs of spring fever, and your post today just turned it up a notch! Although there are still patches of snow on the ground here in Connecticut, now I’m thinking of breaking out my white jeans and pairing them, as you suggest, with booties in a color other than black, to minimize the contrast. Thank you for your great styling ideas and occasionally pushing us past our comfort zones!
Spring is right around the corner!!
For me in Ohio, itās not a rigid adherence to ārulesā that keeps me out of my white jeans in the winter ⦠itās the rain, the snow, the dirty slush, the salt ⦠š
Iām from Minnesota and couldnāt agree more. Those splash marks ruin white jeans/ pants! Maybe sometime in May I can pull out the white jeansā¦ā¦hopefully. For now Iāll just enjoy Jennifer dressings for spring.
That would do it :). Stay warm and dry.
As a Midwesterner with snow still on the ground, I feel strange wearing white jeans. However I love the looks you are showing. I think I’ll try easing into the looks with a pair of ecru jeans. I will definitely try them with a lighter color boot.
Here in Texas I wear white pants in summer. I don’t wear white or denim jeans, too hot. I wear dark colors in winter. Our spring is short, so I wear denim in spring and fall. I think scarves have been on the down swing here. I like the look of scarves , but they bother my neck, and I feel hotter with them. I love how scarves make an outfit .
When we started wearing masks , I was too hot with them to add additional material around my neck. So glad we may be dropping masks here. Our numbers are real low in our county.
I like the outfit your are modeling, my kind of look.
Iām a big fan of scarves too and love to find creative ways to wear them. I agree they are too hot with my mask.
In Portland, Maine, many people (maybe 50%) wear masks outside. They keep your face nice and warm in the cold wind!
It gets too hot here in Central Texas to wear any jeans over the summer. However, I do own 2 pairs of white jeans (from Chico’s and Ann Taylor) and consider them as neutrals. One pair is slim leg and the other pair is straight leg; I’d like to find a pair of boot cut with a higher rise, but that doesn’t seem to be out there in my budget. As neutrals, I wear all sorts of colors with them, and I wear them from late fall through early spring. I bought white jeans again after I went through menopause–sort of as a celebration!
Talbots has some barley boot cut white jeans.
The slip-on shoes look very comfortable. They look like the Stone metallic color. The online picture looks as if the color sits somewhere between gold and silver, though the name implies more silver to me. I’d love your description of the color!
Great looks with white jeans. You’ve inspired me to dig mine out of the out-of-season bin.
They are between gold and silver and appear like pewter to me. Not too warm or cool. Gold and silver can be garish, these are soft.
Living in the NYC suburbs, I never see anyone in white jeans in winter, which is something I had to get used to when I moved here from Miami years ago. I still remember accompanying a friend to her daughterās college campus upstate a few years ago. We had stopped in a bagel shop before heading out, and I was wearing pale green jeans, a navy top, and a pale gray cardigan. EVERYONE in the bagel shop was in head-to-toe black. I stood out like a sore thumb, haha.
Situational colors is certainly a thing. I see more black in many cities but remember it especially well in NYC.
Your photos today give hope that warmer weather will surely arrive and I need to be ready. I donāt own any white or light colored pants. I prefer to dress where the focus is closer to my face. Since the white takes front stage, it just seems to be more flattering if not too snug. This does make me pause and revisit the idea of white pants. Weāll seeā¦
Perhaps all white outfits or ones with low contrast like white pants and very pale colored top?
I love white jeans but don’t wear them year-around. Never thought about it, they just get tucked away when I pack up my summer stuff. However, when I do wear them, I always carry a tide stick! I was on a trip to France once and while on a winery tour, the leader stopped for us to pick some fresh cherries. Think of white jeans and cherry juice – that’s all I need to say about that. Your Quince sweater recommendation came a few months ago and I bought two lovely, reasonably priced sweaters. The navy one, just like you feature here is pilling a lot. Did you have that happen? I need to buy the fuzz remover you recommended from Pottery Barn!
They do pill easily so I give them the once over with my shaver or Gleener before each use. All my cashmere pills but less expensive ones do it more than some pricier ones.
I do wear white jeans year round now (I had a hard time breaking the “rule” at first). I live in Florida so summer clothes work year round. I just ordered a pair of boot leg white jeans because they came in long lengths. I won’t be able to wear them for long here (maybe until the middle of April) but I’m hopeful they’ll fit.
I have bootcut white jeans on my list too.
I like white for summer, but I wouldnāt wear it before Easter. I just feel more comfortable waiting. Funny how some things have stayed with me.
