Best Comfortable Shoes for Spring for Women Over 60
Spring is the perfect time to trade in our heavy boots for something lighter and more comfortable. But finding shoes that feel good and look great isn’t always easy, especially for my aging feet. As we get older, support and cushioning matter more than ever, and my bunion requires a softer shoe, preferably with stretch to ease over the joint. Whether you’re running errands, meeting friends for lunch, or out on a walk enjoying the sunshine, a comfy pair of shoes that feel stylish will keep your feet happy all season long without sacrificing style.

WOVEN LEATHER FLATS

Woven leather flats and loafers are a big trend for spring, and I’m here for it. The leather stretches and molds to your foot, making them comfy and allowing your foot to breathe. These square-toe woven flats come in lots of colors, but I opted for the white to wear all spring and summer long. I bought my shoes, but the brand has generously offered new customers a 10% discount with the code AWSL10 at checkout.

SNEAKERS

You know how important comfy shoes are for me, and these Brittany Knit Sneakers did not disappoint me! They’re part of the T by Talbots collection, which is a reliably comfortable and sporty collection that fits your active lifestyle. These sneakers have a memory foam footbed (yay!) with arch support, but their most important feature to me is that the upper is a knit that stretches and doesn’t pinch my bunion. I took my regular size 9.5, and they fit like a dream. I don’t even have to untie them to slip them on! These come in 4 colors, sizes 5-11. If you want a real slip-on shoe, they also make this slip-on sneaker in the same material.

If you love a clean, simple sneaker with minimal branding, this Oasis sneaker from Vince is a winner. The soft leather feels great, and the cushioned insole makes it easy to wear all day. Pair them with jeans, joggers, or a tee-shirt dress for an easy spring outfit.

Although Munro is going out of business this year, they’re still offering new styles for 2025. These Munro slip-on sneakers are lightweight, breathable, and super comfortable. The perforated design keeps your feet cool, and Munro’s is known for its great support and multiple-width options so that you can find the perfect fit. It’s an easy, everyday sneaker that works well for travel or running errands.

If you have bad feet or plantar fasciitis, the Bondi 9s are a game-changer. The thick sole absorbs impact, which is great if you’re on your feet a lot or deal with foot pain. It’s surprisingly lightweight for such a cushy shoe and gives great support for long walks or all-day wear.

If you caught my spring color forecast, you know powder blue is everywhere this season. These pale blue Dr. Scholl’s sneakers check all the boxes for comfort, thanks to a removable cushioned insole with arch support. Plus, the antimicrobial lining helps keep odors in check, which is always a nice bonus!

BALLET FLATS AND LOAFERS

I’m a big fan of these Ilse Jacobsen shoes and have them in several colors. I recently tossed 2 pairs in the washer, and they came out clean as a whistle. I removed the insoles and let them dry outside, which only took a few hours. They come in a rainbow of colors…but of course, I own some neutrals :).

I’ve been loving loafers lately, and this classic one by Franco Sarto can be easily dressed up or down. This light beige is perfect for spring, but they’re also available in a metallic silver, black, and a powder blue.

I have several pairs of Demi flats from the Margaux brand. The soft leather molds to your foot, and the supportive insole ensures you won’t be wishing for a different shoe by the end of the day. They now come in this gorgeous woven pattern, which is perfect for warmer weather.

The “Fisherman Aesthetic” is a classic, preppy look that’s big this spring. That means nautical-inspired pieces, like boat shoes, are having a moment. Vionic’s Bay Loafer Boat Shoes have built-in arch support, a cushioned footbed, and an easy slip-on design, so they’re a great way to get the look while staying comfortable.

I’ve always loved wearing a driving loafer because they’re the perfect mix of polish and ease. This one by Easy Spirit has that classic silhouette with a flexible sole that moves with you, making it a dream for long days on your feet.

SANDALS

My Ecco Flowt sandals are the most comfortable sandals I own…and that’s saying a lot. The velcro straps allow me to adjust for a secure fit across the top of my foot, and the footbed is a dream to walk on. This is my second year in these sandals as well, and they’ve held up beautifully. They have a very cushiony sole, arch support, and velcro securely to my ankle, so I don’t have to grip my toes to keep them on. I find nude shoes much more user-friendly than any other color because they coordinate with everything.

These Slide Sandals are an easy, stylish pick for spring and summer. With its slip-on design, it’s perfect for errands, brunch, or any casual outing. Pair them with a skirt, white denim, or a sundress.

A friend of mine swears these Archies Arch Support Flip Flops are the most comfortable she’s ever worn—she even uses them as house shoes! With built-in arch support and a cushioned footbed, they’re perfect for everything from running errands to heading to the pool, or just relaxing at home.

This platform sandal is one of those warm-weather shoes that looks great and feels even better. The cushioned footbed keeps your feet comfy all day, while the adjustable ankle strap ensures they stay secure without slipping around. It’s the perfect mix of style and comfort for sunny days!

Do you have any comfortable shoes to add to this list? What shoes are you wearing this spring?

I have arthritis and a Morton’s neuroma and have recently discovered that Keds has some cute new shoe designs, one design that is podiatrist approved. They offer regular and wide widths sizes. On another note, I really enjoy reading your suggestions for both style and comfort!
I agree with your friend about the comfort & support of Archie’s flip flops – I’m a fan of their slides as a slightly dressier alternative. They still work for the beach, poolside etc but transition better than flip flops (IMO!) to a cafe and browsing shops afterwards!
I will have to check them out!
I’m late in reading The post today but I’m putting a link in here so you can see the cute sneakers I ordered today from Marmi shoes. I can’t wear flats or loafers but I thought these would be the perfect shoes to dress up. My dressier slacks.
Thank you. Jennifer, you do the best shoe reviews. I plan on buying the Vionic boat shoes. Happy Spring!
Happy Spring!
This is such a helpful list! Thank you!
I developed severe osteoporosis arthritis in both big toes and had surgery on both. While I my feet are currently pain free, I take care with my shoes to avoid a reoccurrence. I wear Altra running shoes for every day use—they have a super wide toe box with a zero foot drop. I just love them. While they aren’t cute, they’re so comfortable that I don’t care. 😊 I wear Camper flats when I have to dress up. Now, they are cute and comfortable. I recommend both brands to anyone with difficult feet like mine.
Thanks for the recommendation, Terry.
I have Ecco Soft 7 sneakers in so many colors! They’re my go-to walking shoe.
One shoe I struggle with is a nice dress shoe while traveling. I’ve tried ballet flats and they never seem dressy enough and make my size 9’s look extra long. What are other women wearing while traveling when dining in a little nicer restaurant or going to a more formal event?
I’m a fan of shoes with stretch. Do you want or need a heel?
Because I need a 7W, I have severe arthritis and peripheral neuropathy, I wear Brooks Ghost Max and Easy Spirit Denise Austin 7 1/2W sneakers. I have to size up in Easy Spirit. I also wear Skechers booties for winter and slip ins for warmer weather. I wear Easy Spirit Travelfur clogs as slippers around the house. I wear Smartwool socks and some comfortable socks I got on Amazon that I believe you found a while back. I don’t like bare ankles or bare feet in shoes. Sandals are the only shoes I wear bare if very hot outside. At 80, comfort is first.
For someone deciding between the Munro or the Ilse Jacobsen, which do you think would be more likely to be comfortable? Size 9, sometimes 9 1/2, regular to wide, high arch. They look like both would be cool for summer and could be worn with pants or dresses.
Munro has more support. The Ilse Jacobsen is softer and more flexible.
Some great suggestions here, although I own a pair of the Vince Oasis and after three days the rubber separated from both the toe and heel and they developed creases where the foot bends. Add Veja to the list. Own two pairs and they wear well and are comfortable.
By the way you are looking great. Pilates must be paying off!
Oh no! That’s not good. You should return them
I just think a heel- say 2-2.5 inches- looks nicer with a dress or skirt. But yet be comfortable enough to walk a little ways to a restaurant. I know, I’m asking for a lot, but hoping the hive mind has an answer…
You could check this post for some ideas.
Thanks for sharing your shoe suggestions, Jennifer. I have a narrow foot (with bunions) making finding comfortable, stylish shoes a challenge. While Velcro helps somewhat, in many shoes it’s not enough. For example, I can’t wear the Ecco Flowt sandal. It doesn’t fit snugly around the top of my foot. Do you have any suggestions? Thanks!
Short of adding a gel pad under the ball of the foot I can’t think of another way to adjust that Flowt sandal. Sorry
Melodie, I share your situation with a narrow foot and I too could not wear the Ecco sandals as they were loose on my feet (even with Velcro closings). I’ve found Naot, Mephisto and even Birkenstocks to fit more snugly on my foot and heel.
Good to know. Thanks for sharing those brands Laura.
Good morning! I’ve long wondered the meaning of “c/o” in some of your links, so when I saw it today … well, here I am. Thank you, Jennifer, for starting my day with relatable blogs that improve my life. PS I’ll be 82 tomorrow.
Happy Birthday Judy! c/o means care of, the brand sent it to me.
Just became aware of this company BaredFootwear where the female shoe designer is a podiatrist. https://baredfootwear.com/us/about. Haven’t purchased anything yet but I am intrigued.
I am intrigued by them too!
Thank you for sharing these great shoe options, especially the sneakers. As someone with a pesky neuroma but skinny feet, I’ve struggled with finding shoes that have a wide enough toe box but not wide overall, that won’t aggravate my neuroma. Hoka Bondi works great. I’ve also had good luck with Born shoes, even their boots. I need a a fair amount of cushioning but don’t always want to go with the Hoka vibe!
I hear you about that Hoka vibe. I’ll have to try Born.
Love your shoes! Ugh, didn’t know that about Munro……I love their shoes!
I love their shoes too!
I have a question what socks do you wear with loafers? Also with dresses for spring and summer what does one wear or bare legs
I either wear nothing or no-show socks. Bomb as makes great ones.
Haven’t tried any of your extensive list, except Archie’s. I wear the thongs around the house as they are so comfy and bought the slides for outside. I am interested in the Vivaia Mary Jane’s, but am reluctant to order online. Did really like the Ecco float sandals and you are so right about the colour being versatile.
I gave in to foot surgery last year to remove a big, ugly bone spur under my right big toe. It was followed by an inconvenient six weeks of recovery, but now I am so happy. Sandals and ballet shoes, here I come!
I’m going to miss Munro!
I’m glad it was a success!
