Classic Pieces for Fall From Nordstrom Anniversary Sale

The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale is always a delight and a challenge to shop. It’s my favorite department store for so many reasons. It’s exciting to shop the new preseason offerings and plan what will work into my fall wardrobe. The challenge is that many things sell out fast, so you need to jump on items when you see them. Today, I’m sharing some classic pieces from the Nordstrom Anniversary sale and options for things that are still in stock.
I started my outfit with a classic fall blazer because nothing polishes a look faster than a nice third layer. My Nic+Zoe knit blazer sold out in a flash and will hopefully be restocked. I like knit blazers because they’re as comfy as a cardigan with a more structured, clean silhouette. This Caslon Knit blazer looks very similar and comes in six shades to work with any color palette. The older I get, the more critical comfy footwear is to any successful outfit, so as soon as I could shop, I zeroed in on comfortable shoes. Mephisto is well known for its comfort and arch support. In my continuing quest for cool-toned shoes this fall, I couldn’t resist these Mephisto wedges in deep blue. They have what appear to be working buckles, but actually close with velcro closures. I love how these make it a snap to adjust for comfort as feet swell throughout the day. Their cork footbed, leather lining, and easy-adjusting straps elevate your look with foot-supporting comfort. These also come in a warm-toned tobacco color.

This fall, I’m seeing straight, wide, and narrow jeans, but I think the most classic and easy to style is a bootcut. They flatter all silhouettes with their slim hip and thigh area that widens to cover the top of your shoe or booties.
I love the way they add balance to my broad shoulders and help elongate the look of my legs. Most bootcut jeans are miles too long for me, and they lose a lot of their boot shape when you hem them, so I was thrilled to score these Wit & Wisdom Itty Bitty Bootcut jeans in petite! These jeans have been a customer favorite for many years and it’s obvious why. They have a high rise and strategic fading to look modern but not heavily distressed. The smaller bootcut is also easier for petite women to wear and looks just as flattering on taller gals.

It doesn’t get more classic than a striped cotton tee for summer or fall, and this is a great one. I’ve been buying Caslon tees for years and can rely on their comfort. The fabric in this version is less opaque than in recent collections and feels even softer than usual. It comes in 12 colors and a few stripes, like my navy and soft white.
These tees are $15.99 during the anniversary sale, which is amazing value but even better when you see the quality. I noticed right away that the stripes match along the side seams, which is an attention to detail and a sign of quality that I don’t always see in tees costing 4 times the price.
I finished my outfit with this 90s-inspired denim shoulder bag that can also be worn crossbody by simply unsnapping two snaps on the strap. It has polished silver hardware, a magnetic snap closure, and an inner pocket. This bag is also available in brown or beige faux leather here.

I am enjoying your blog. However, the shoes you post are never in my size. I know I can’t be the only petite woman with a small foot (size 4). Where do your other readers find shoes? Children’s sizes are too wide. It’s so frustrating!

I have so much of your taste! Love all the brands you love and help keep Nordstrom in business. My favorite store. Bought o three pairs of Mephisto Sandals. Three pairs of Paul Greens. Each will work wonderfully with everything I bought. I’m a jeans, sweater or blazer kind of girl with not a lot of jewelry! Happy shopping.

Jennifer, just wanted to bring to your attention the ZUVI Halo hair dryer. It replicates warmth from the sun and does not damage your hair like regular blow-dryers and helps your hair heal from the inside out. I bought mine on sale for $265 or so and I’ve had it for the better part of a year. The regular price is $389 and it’s on sale right now for $292. I can say that my hair is not as dry as it was before. Knowing how you try to protect your hair, I thought this might be of interest to you.
I have the Zuvi and love it! It leaves my hair so shiny.
I always buy Caslon tees also. I’ve gotten so I don’t wear vneck as much as I used to. I’m trying to cover up as much skin as possible! I love all the jeans and you looked awesome in your outfit.

I love your outfit – you look so great! I have never liked regular blazers because I (1) once had a job where we were encouraged to wear them to look professional, (2) didn’t look good in that much structure (many of mine had shoulder pads!) and (3) found them very stiff & uncomfortable. But a knit one? Sounds like a perfect top to wear with comfortable pants on a long plane trip. I’m ordering the Caslon one in black. Thanks for the suggestion!
