Favorite Fall 2024 Arrivals From Talbots
I popped into the Talbots to check out the latest collection. It’s filled with wearable classics in warm and cool-toned colors, plus plenty of neutrals. They were still unpacking boxes while I was there so I imagine there will be more to try on very soon. Here are some favorite fall 2024 arrivals from Talbots.

A try-on is when I go into a store and style their latest collection so readers can see what’s new and get some ideas for how they could wear it. I’m not shopping for myself and seldom buy clothes because I prefer to shop online. My hair gets pretty trashed, and I’m often barefoot. For size reference, I’m 5’4″, which puts me on the cusp of petite. I have wide shoulders and straight hips with no obvious curves. Talbots is a size-inclusive brand that carries clothes in sizes misses, petite, plus, and plus petite to 3X.

Talbots is showing a lot of color this fall. I started with this lattice cable sweater in pink and ivory. It also comes in ivory with black, which gives a much quieter effect. This fabric is very soft against the skin, and gold trim elevates the look and gives it a Chanel vibe. The contrast band around the bottom could be problematic for some figures because it draws the eye sideways at a spot where many women would prefer to look slim. To mitigate that, I paired it with these sailor flares in the same shade as the sweater band. These pants have a nautical flare with the buttons along the slash pockets in front. The fabric is substantial cotton with stretch and a stitched pleat running down the front, which has an elongating effect.

This leopard print sweater seems to be the sweater of the season. The print is a huge trend, the material is soft, and the flattering neckline means this will sell like hotcakes. The print is in shades of camel and black, which has a softer look than many with black in them.
I paired it with these flattering straight-leg ankle pants in coffee bean brown. I love the sleek fit of these pants, which come in 8 colors. They’re made from an all-season stretch fabric and an invisible elastic back waistband, which is very comfy and prevents back gaps. These classic pants could take you anywhere in comfort and be dressed up or down.
This corduroy skirt has a slight a-line shape and kick-pleat in front for ease of walking. I think it would be a better length for me in the petite, but this store didn’t stock it. The cotton/spandex blend has a nice amount of stretch and also comes in an indigo blue. I’m always tempted to style these types of skirts with a knee boot, but I think this front kick pleat would get caught on the top of the boot, so I’d opt for tights and a shoe.

You can always count on Talbots to have a large selection of dresses. This fit and flare dress has a pleated skirt and a slight empire waistline. The merino wool is very, very soft in a midweight knit with no itch factor at all. This also comes in black and would pack beautifully and it would be very easy to dress up or down.

There’s quite a lot of this dark teal in this collection, and it’s stunning. These flare-leg pants are full-length with a high rise. They have sleek slash pockets in front and flat besom pockets in the back, which elevate the whole vibe. Why they added a metallic button in the center of the tummy area is anyone’s guess, but it’s easy to replace.
The satin charmeuse blouse has an ivory background with lots of Talbots seasonal colors, so it will coordinate with many pieces. It has a printed band at the bottom that I tucked in, but you could easily wear it out over a slimmer pant. It’s a substantial and flowy fabric but totally opaque.

I adore this reversible ruana in soft shades of toasted coconut and ivory. It’s incredibly soft and cuddly, like your favorite blanket, yet lightweight enough to toss over your shoulder like a scarf. It also comes in a striking red/indigo-blue combo. On the left, I’m wearing their ribbed sweater in ivory. It comes in 3 other colors and is a beautiful piece to wear on its own or layer inside things.
The Chatham slim ankle pants fit beautifully with a smooth waistband and side zipper, so they create no lumps to poke out of sweaters and tops. I’m wearing a regular 6 with the bottom tucked under because the petite was sold out. They come in 4 shades, and I’m wearing the gypsum. These are one of my favorite styles of pants at Talbots because they have a smooth finish with stretch and a sleek appearance (in the correct size).

Talbots slim ankle jeans have been a tried and true customer favorite for many years (the curvy fit is here). The wash is medium, there is no distressing, and the fabric has a hint of stretch. I’ve owned several pairs over the years, and I appreciate their classic fit.
This quilted jacket is in a color called Fanfare, which looks teal to me 🙂 It’s a very soft, pliable fabric with a subtle gleam but no shine. I love the slimming effect of a diamond shape quilt. The white edging detail is a cheerful, fun touch. I’m wearing a regular S, which you can see I needed for the sleeve length, so it runs true to size. It’s a great little casual jacket for fall days. Peeking out from under the jacket is this floral medallion tee with shades of teal, ivory, and navy. It has a bateau neckline and 3/4 sleeves.

I seldom buy for myself when doing a try-on for the blog, but I did buy these pants. The rose color spoke to me, and their fit is fabulous. This stretch corduroy is very comfy and has none of the cardboard feel you can get with some heavier corduroy. Flares are the shape I find myself leaning into the most this fall, and this pair is a lovely shape. They come in 5 great fall colors, including burgundy, walnut, black, and camel (almond buff).
This cashmere sweater has some of the same rose colors as the pants, along with tons of other seasonal shades. It has 3/4 sleeves, and the other colors in the print are pomegranate, burnt olive, fall berry, golden maize, and India ink. The cashmere is very soft and on the thin side, so it won’t be too warm and is easy to layer.

This ruffle trim popover is the prettiest blue with ivory plaid in a lightweight cotton rayon blend. The bottom is a shirttail hem, so it looks nice tucked and untucked. The sleeve has an elastic cuff, which creates a tiny ruffle effect. If blue isn’t your thing, it also comes in a toasted coconut shade.

I popped this little quilted jacket over the plaid popover. The blue is slightly brighter but works well together. It’s slightly cropped, so it will work well with wider pants and jeans. It’s a little puffier than the teal jacket above and will likely feel a bit warmer. It also has a sportier vibe than the teal because of the corduroy fabric. The oval quilting has a more casual vibe to me than the diamond one in teal above.

This tweed cardigan definitely gives me Chanel vibes. It’s knit in shades of aqua with cream and taupe. This also comes in a burgundy knit. I’m wearing it over this open-stitch crew neck sweater. It’s a lightweight cotton blend sweater covered with bobbles and open work. The short sleeves will be nice in early fall. It comes in 3 soft colors.
The Greenwich pants don’t appear to be loaded on the Talbots website yet, but they’re very flattering and came home with me.
Are you a fan of Chanel vibe clothes?

Dearest Jennifer,I must agree with the other ladies on this post: there is no way that a twenty or thirty something has the wisdom and knowledge to advise me on what I should and should not wear! The only upside (humorous) to this is that IF they live a long life they will see the difference, hopefully they won’t be subjected to the same prejudice that we do today.
You just keep doing what you’re doing and sharing your findings with us.
We’re here and we aren’t going anywhere.
You’re so sweet! Thanks Rhoda. I’m glad you’re here.
I, too, get pissed off at the “fru-fru crew”! Ha, Ha!
I love your posts, and am so glad I found your blog. Please keep doing it for years and years! Also, that Merino wool sweater dress is gorgeous on you!
Thanks Joan
You, Susan and Cindy are my favorites. Love you all. Thank you so much for your advice. I live in a mountain resort, so hardly ever get to dress up in a normal way haha. However, an occasional wedding or event transports me to a different place. Love all of your advice!
Thank you Candace. I think they’re fab too.
I am so glad you represent our demographic so well. It is a pleasure to read your posts. We appreciate you!
Thanks for being here Jean
