It’s All In The Details

Happy Wednesday, ladies. Today I want to share an outfit I wore for an Instagram campaign for Chico’s. It’s loaded with details and unique pieces that are very different for me and so fun!

BLUE LEATHER TIERED EARRINGS / POPLIN CUTWORK SLEEVE TOP / TROUSER JEANS / STONE CHAIN BELT / EMBROIDERED SHOES

The cutwork blouse has full sleeves that aren’t overly puffy but do add some volume up top 🙂 If you had narrow shoulders and wider hips, this would draw the eye up and help balance your shape. The cutwork on the sleeves is very pretty, and the fabric is nice and crisp. It comes in sizes 4-22, I am wearing an 8.

EARRINGS / BLOUSE / BELT

I think these leather-tiered earrings are super fun. They’re very lightweight and swing when you move around. Mine are navy, and they also come in black here and brown here. I’ve long since given up on heavy earrings and love the big statement these make with so little weight :).

The jeans are wide-leg trouser-style in a very deep rinse they call chestnut. It’s not warm-toned, so I’m not sure why they called it that. I’ve always loved the uniqueness of a trouser shape in denim, and these did not disappoint. They come in petite and tall with a 31″ regular inseam and a 28″ petite inseam. I am wearing a 6 petite. The fabric is a cotton blend with spandex, so they have stretch.

EMBROIDERED SHOES

Chico’s just recently added shoes to their collections and this is the cutest pair so far. These navy kid suede embroidered shoes are such a fun addition to any outfit. They come in whole and half sizes from 6-10 1/2. I ordered the 9 but think the 9 1/2 would have been better.

Funny story, when I opened the box, I thought this belt was a necklace. It has a similar shape and color as this howlight necklace I wore back in March…but it was so much heavier. Luckily, I decided to check the website because I would have looked pretty goofy wearing it around my neck.

SIMILAR NECKLACE IN WHITE MARKED WAY DOWN!

I don’t usually wear this much detail at one time, so this was a fun outfit.

Do you like to wear lots of details in an outfit or are you more streamlined with your style?

Thanks for reading, and remember to wear what makes you feel confident.

  1. Oh Jennifer, you look so sharp! I love this outfit on you, but it wouldn’t work for me. I’m so busty—I avoid light colors on top unless I’m wearing a tailored blazer. I’d also avoid the cutouts for the same reason. That said, you look great!

As you’re thinking through your blog rejigger, could you more explicitly address other body shapes in the outfits you try? Just suggestions about why something would or wouldn’t work on someone taller/shorter, bustier (😊), curvier/straighter, etc.

I just love your blog! ❤️

  2. I love the blouse. Especially since it’s not puffy sleeves. The whole outfit looked great on you. It’s so hard to find any navy shoes and it’s even better to find them embroidered! I wouldn’t wear the belt just because I barely started tucking things in so that might be my next step.

  3. I like this outfit on you, Jennifer, although if you say it’s different maybe it’s not for you? I wouldn’t be able to pull it off–it would look and feel like a costume. I say this because I inherited a similar (and valuable) belt which I’ve tried multiple times to wear, and it always goes back in the closet because it just isn’t me. I think the shoes are great, a colorful twist on smoking slippers (I only wish Chico’s shoe range included by 5.5 size). The white shirt, as someone said is Battenburg lace-like, but the puffy sleeve is a thing I won’t do even with narrow shoulders, makes me think they can’t inset a sleeve properly. The denim trouser is nicely structured, and I’m glad to see it offered in petite. I’ll have to check it out. Although my husband saw a woman in wide pants last night on tv and said, “yuck.” So, I may be stocking up on straight and flares.

    1. Interesting that your husband would comment. I have to drag fashion opinions out of mine 🙂

      1. He never comments! That he did shows the depth of his opinion.

      2. Ha Ha!

Love, love this outfit and it looks wonderful on you. Sure hope you keep it. Perfect to transition to fall. I would leave off the shoes, brown leather loafers with matching handbag on the small to medium size. Navy is my new base color, wear very little black any more. For me personally not sure I can wear the jeans, (I prefer the dark wash denim). At 5’ and a 25 1/2” inseam, I think it would ruin the look after they were shorten. I usually order misses because I need the longer stride, they have a 31” inseam ☹️ Just won’t work for me.

    1. That’s a long inseam for you. Navy is a great color for a base neutral

  5. Jennifer, I love the new website layout, your looks and style tips!!

    1. Thank you so much, Susan. It was past time to fix things up a bit. Are you finding it easy to navigate?

  6. Jennifer you smashed it with this outfit! The blue in the earrings, belt and shoes provide continuity and harmony to the outfit. Could also see swapping out the jeans for a skirt for a night out. For me it says classy without constraint. Absolutely one of my faves!

    1. I went back to look at the outfit again and what struck me was the feeling of wanting to strike up a conversation with this woman because she knows who she is.

      1. I totally understand what you mean! I love that explanation!

    2. I’m so happy to hear that, Suzi! Thanks

  7. I love the blouse but think the belt is too busy to be worn with it. I would have the blouse as my star and keep the rest of the outfit simple.

    1. Both of these pieces are my very picks from Chico’s latel . The blouse is lovely. I love trouser jeans as they can be so polished with jackets, especially a Chanel like tweed, which I have in my closet. Just wanting for a sale to snap them up!

  8. I really love this look on you and probably on me! I am wondering about the shoes – do they fit you as being a little wide? I have rheumatoid arthritis and need a wide shoe now but I would love to wear these shoes!

    1. I have a medium-wide foot, and these are plenty wide on me. Since they’re kid suede, they will also give some

  9. Love the look of everything. I am just not used to tucking in shirts and wearing belts. Love the blouse and anything denim. I don’t care for cloth or embroidered shoes. I like shoes with good support.

  10. Love the blouse and like the look as a whole, although I would never wear the shoes. They look like slippers to me. I wonder what the outfit would look like with a simpler belt? I think I’d try something less prominent and try the belt over a neutral jacket or something. But, you do look terrrifc, so perhaps the belt is the right choice.

  11. Yes, that’s whole lotta detail in your featured look today. Nevertheless, you pulled it off! Maybe a soft brown belt would have helped to draw the eye more upward. This is a crisp, clean look in white, navy and soft blue tones.
My use of accessories has diminished greatly. I am over the scarves wrapped and tied around my neck. Sometimes my only add on accessory is a bracelet. Sometimes I have to chuckle to think that my style choices are still under construction!

  12. Love this outfit. The blouse is so different yet classic.
I am not one for big chunky necklaces. I do tend to go for the more delicate chains or pendants. I like the look on others but on me – not so much.
Also love the shoes and belt. Happy Wednesday.

You look fabulous in the blouse and jeans. I would definitely wear this outfit…feminine but not too fussy.

  14. Being a nod to what is called Battenberg Lace; love the cutout detail of the sleeves on the blouse and though I do like all the accessories I feel that the belt competes and distracts from them, so I guess I am more of a streamlined kind of gal in that respect. Also like the trouser jeans but could you tell me Jennifer, what colour is the topstitching on them? (Thank you.) -Brenda-
P.S.: Darn, for your Canadian readers the blouse is only offered in XL sizing.

    1. The topstitching is warm rust color. This may be why it has the color wash name it does.

  15. Jennifer, I know this is out of your “wheelhouse” so to speak, but I think you look absolutely darling. I wear embroidered loafers and mules all the time. I think they add interest to an otherwise simple outfit.

    1. You’re sweet, Thanks, Cindy. I love embroidered shoes:)

Love this outfit. Chico’s sold shoes long ago and I still have a few pairs of their shoes in my collection. Glad to see they are starting up again. I will have to say about trouser jeans – over the years, I would buy a pair because they were in style, but they’d get donated soon because I just never wore them. I think that maybe was because I didn’t have a tall enough heel. At 5’6″, I might have to go down to petites if I wanted to wear them with flats.

    1. At 5’6″, the petites may be too short on you. They get a smidge longer as the sizes go up, but the regulars are very long.

      1. suzanstew says:

Going out to Chico’s tomorrow to try them…

  17. I like everything you are wearing. In reference to the details question, I streamline my look rather than concentrate on the details. For example, I probably would not buy or wear the belt. I would buy that beautiful blouse.. love it. Re-thinking the shoes. I do like the colors, but the only time I have seen them were on some “older” ladies playing bridge!

  18. You look fabulous‼️I love everything about what you are wearing. The details are there but not in any distracting manner ie. bold color, bold pattern or extreme textures. It definitely works and has a feminine appeal without being frou-frou. A big winner!

    1. I’m so glad you like it. It feels very fun

  19. I love navy and deep blues with interesting accents, so these pieces (necklaces and belts work for me! You look great!
