J.Crew Factory Try-On Report: Spring 2026
I don’t stop into J.Crew Factory every week, but I make a point to get there each season to see what’s actually on the floor. Consider it reconnaissance to find what’s worth your attention. The quality has been up and down over the years, so I go in with low expectations and an open mind. I’m 5’4″ with broad shoulders, straight hips, and a long torso, and I wear an 8 or 10, depending on the piece. I did come home with a few pieces from this J.Crew Factory Spring 2026 try-on.

Most pieces come in regular, petite, and tall inseams, and the size range runs from 00 to 24 or XXS to 3X, depending on the category. You can see my other dressing room try-ons here.

This lightweight navy & white striped dress would have come home with me if I hadn’t just bought a very similar one. Blue and white stripes are so fresh for spring (it also comes in kahki and white), and the cotton/Tencel/spandex blend makes it cool and comfy. This is labeled midi, but it is almost maxi on me, and it also comes in tall.
It has those annoying little strings at the waist side-seam to hold the belt, but I would snip them off because they stick out. I’d also probably switch the belt for a woven stretch belt like this, or I really like this Raffia one.

LIGHT BLUE NECKLACE / DARK BLUE NECKLACE IN LAPIS
These are terrific chino shorts with a 9″ inseam…which is about as short as I’d be comfortable with, so I didn’t try on these shorter ones. They’re a 98% cotton/2% spandex blend and come in ten great colors. They have all the pockets we like and are a perfect shape to top with a blazer, or dress down with a tee.
I topped it with this navy-and-white striped, half-zip terry pullover. This has a slight shirttail hem and fits true to size. It also comes in soft gray or spearmint stripe. There are matching terry shorts if you’re so inclined.

I’ve owned this exact school-boy sweater blazer for several years and have worn it repeatedly. I wish they would offer a few more color options besides black. It’s very comfortable and a great way to add a bit of structure to a casual outfit. I’m wearing it over this essential, 100% cotton tee in kahki & ivory stripe. It’s also available in 15 solid colors.
On the left are the white ankle-flare jeans, one size too large for me, looser than they should be. I often size up in white pants…but not this time, so I’d order your regular size. Everyone is buying white jeans, and stock is running low at many of the stores I’ve shopped at. I guess everyone is ready for summer! These also come in blue in regular, petite, and tall inseams.
On the right, I’m wearing the always flattering Kallie straight-leg pant in black. It’s made from a cotton/viscose/elastane blend that’s machine washable. The fit is slimming, and the classic styling makes them very versatile. I’m wearing a regular pair with a 28″ inseam, and they also come in petite (25″) and tall (31″).

These cotton gauze shirts are a bestseller year after year. I own them in several colors from years past and find them perfect for hot weather. I’m wearing a medium, but would have sized up to make it roomier…but they were sold out! It’s very soft and great for travel. This year, they come in 4 solids and 2 striped colors.
I’m wearing it with these comfy chambray drawstring pants that will be perfect for hot weather. They are slim, wide-leg pants that allow airflow but aren’t sloppy. These come in 7 colors in classic, petite, and tall inseams. I’m wearing classic and like this length on me.

This cotton Teddie sweater is another bestseller at J.Crew Factory. Each season, they come out with new colors, as well as the classics. I’m wearing Bistro Blue, and it’s also available in 9 other shades. I like to size up in this sweater, because it’s lightweight and looks best with a bit of drape.
I’m wearing it with these wide-leg Jamie pants in navy. These fit beautifully and feel very comfortable because they have an elastic waistband (smooth in front) and are a soft polyester knit. They make great dress pants, travel like a dream, and are easy to wear casually. They come in 4 colors, and have pockets!

These everyday chinos have a 28.5″ inseam, which is too long on me, so I’d opt for the petite. They’re a cotton/elastine blend that has stretch when you sit. These must have come right out of the packaging box, because they’re pretty wrinkled, and ordinarily, the elastane keeps some of the wrinkles at bay. These chinos come in 5 colors, plus a polka-dot option that’s especially preppy-looking.
More Spring J.Crew Finds
Finding what actually fits without spending a day in the dressing room is half the battle. I hope this try-on can help you shop with a little more confidence and a lot less guesswork. I was delighted with this try-on and brought home the chinos and cotton gauze shirt.
Have you tried any of the latest from J.Crew Factory?

Jennifer i have a question regarding wide leg pants. When I try them on i look like I gained about 20 lbs or more. Im already wearing a size large. They are so popular but feel so unflattering. What’s your thought on this? I know you wear alot of wide leg pants?!
I prefer one’s that are slim through the hips, then flare out. If it doesn’t feel right for you, just skip them. There are so many other great options.
I ordered the Frankie 9” short in red clay and can’t wait to try them. Despite having short legs I feel a 9” length balances me out and hides a few spider veins in the process (ugh)! Thanks for the great review!
Would you consider the 9″ Bermuda shorts to be low rise, which is how they appear on the webpage? We are the same height, and it looks like the shape of your torso is similar to mine, though I wouldn’t consider myself as having a long torso. Also, I have curvy hips. Thanks, Jennifer.
They did not seem low to me at all! In fact, the name surprised me.
Thanks! I have them in my cart.
The worst thing J Crew has done is to stop selling 7 inch shorts.
Only offering a 5 and 9 inch is ridiculous. The 7 inch are a perfect mid length.
I was told in the store they are not to share how many complaints they get on the issue. Nothing like total disregard for the customer.
I do like shopping there, this just makes me sad!
I have two of their essential tees and love so far. I’m new to their sizing and must order online. You look so good in everything you tried on! Navy is my black and can’t wear beige very well but blues are my colors.
Hi Jennifer, I look forward to your posts though you and I have totally different taste. I am a winter so the only shade of blue that I like and wear is royal blue. I never wear horizontal stripes as they are not flattering on me and I find them too preppy for my style. I appreciate all of the time and work you put into this blog. I pick up a lot of tips from you. And I love your sense of humor!
Thanks Debra
Like you, I have found the quality and pricing of J. Crew and J.Crew Factory items to be all over the place. However, I like the Essential T-Shirts and jersey tees. I have also gotten some great sweaters from J.Crew Factory. I appreciate you taking the time to try on some of their clothing because I trust your style and judgement. I also ordered the necklaces you tried on from Bauble Bar, one from Nordstrom, and one from the manufacturer. Thank you! Though I may be budget-conscious, I am discovering it pays off to purchase one or two items from your suggestions because of their timeless style and quality. I have not had as much luck with another capsule wardrobe influencer I follow.
Those necklaces are such a fun edition to my simple outfits
Sweater blazer is really cute! And once again you are showing things in my favorite color—blue!
I enjoy your post. It is so helpful to see clothes actually on. I am 5’ 5 1/2” with a long torso and thin. For the past few years finding tops that work is difficult. Also I have noticed quality has just gone down hill. What brands hold up. I liked the Jcrew try on. Some fun everyday clothes
Thanks for this try-on. I stopped in our J Crew Factory store last weekend, and that navy striped zip pullover came home with me … and I’ve already worn it twice! If the tan version wasn’t too pale for my coloring, I’d have it as well; it’s a great top. I love the J Crew shorts, and I confess I didn’t even look at those (I have several pairs). However, the last few years, the chinos shorts did NOT have a back pocket, just a fake pocket. Very disappointing. If this year’s version has an actual back pocket, I need to RUN back to my J Crew store to buy those!
This was a great try on. I’ve never been to a J.Crew store but if they have petites that would wonderful.
LOVE the blue beads! I used to wear them all the time but now I feel like they make my neck and face look fat.
