Monday Musings: What I Wore Last Week

This Monday, I’m sharing a few outfits I wore last week. I style a lot of different looks on the blog, including some of the latest things in-store and available online. This post is intended to give you a sense of what I wear during the week. My week involved some travel, indoor and outdoor activities, and time spent with my family. As a result it was a lot of casual and comfortable outfits.

FLEECE TRAVEL SET / DENIM SHIRT / SNEAKERS / SHOULDER BAG

We took a ferry over to Vancouver Island for a few days and this is what I wore to travel. It was breezy and cool, and I found myself wishing for socks. I wore my Malibu Triple Fleece travel set in British navy over a denim shirt with comfy sneakers. I wear this set often because it’s easy, loose-fitting, and comfy for a travel day or running errands.

CASHMERE SWEATER / ANIMAL PRINT BLOUSE / CORDUROY PANTS / BOOTIES / SHOULDER BAG

The next day, we awoke to rain, fog, and downright clammy weather. I wore my taupe corduroy pants with taupe suede booties and topped it with a cozy cashmere sweater.

We met my brothers for lunch and I realized I was underdressed for the temperature. It always feels colder to me when the weather is damp. Even in booties, I felt chilled, so I was very glad I’d thought to toss this black inner jacket into the back of the car. While I don’t love to break up the soft colors head to toe, this was a lifesaver.

PONTE KNIT BLAZER / CASHMERE TOP / SIMILAR BLOUSE / JEANS / BOOTIES / SHOULDER BAG / CARRY ON / ROLLER BAG

The day we traveled back, I pulled out my cashmere PJ top to wear as a vest because it was still raining, and I needed the extra layer. This is my new Eileen Fisher blazer that I recently purchased and wore on my trip to Dallas. It is a ponte knit blazer, so it’s stretchy and cozy but can still elevate a casual pair of jeans.

BLUEBERRY FLEECE OUTER SHIRT / SLING BAG / SIMILAR BLACK SHIRT / STRAIGHT JEANS / HOKAS / CAP

I’ve gotten a ton of wear out of this sling bag over the last year, and I realize that the more active my life becomes, the more convenient my bag needs to be. Totes have become increasingly useful, as have crossbody and belt bags. This little bag quickly converts from a sling to a fanny pack (belt bag) with an adjustable strap that clicks securely into place. It has lots of zippers and inner pockets to hold all my essentials. It’s buttery soft leather, so it’s also as light as a feather.

All summer, my girl and I have been enjoying our weekend walks in the forest. Saturday was no exception. We wandered on our usual trails for about an hour. We actually found a lost dog on our walk and were happy to reunite it with its owner. I bought these Hokas during my trip to Finland this summer, and they’re super comfy on a longer walk.

NAVY STRIPED FLEECE JACKET / VUORI SWEATSHIRT TOP / VUORI JOGGERS / ECCO SNEAKERS / SLING BAG / YOGA MAT BAG

Sunday was yoga and spending the day with my daughter. The weather was crisp and glorious. I wore my charcoal Vuori sweatshirt and joggers, Ecco sneakers, and my triple fleece cropped jacket. This summer I’ve been taking more yoga classes, leaning into the Vancouver lifestyle. I discovered a Yoga instructor who I really enjoy – he brings a very calm and encouraging energy to the class, which I need as a beginner.

I have a few more days in Vancouver before we’ll be heading back down to California. I’m excited to see and hug my son and grandchildren! It’s been a few months, and I expect I will be looking eye to eye with my older grandson, who is growing like a weed!

  1. Thank you for the great post. I just bought the same Eileen Fisher ponte blazer and just pondering whether I “need” it in my closet, so excited to see the different ways you’ll style it.

Do you find the Away carry-on useful? How is it to carry after you check your luggage on a flight – some comments say too heavy?

    1. It’s heavy if I load it down but it does have a shoulder strap which helps.

  2. Could you please share what size is the EF Blazer?

    1. I’m wearing a small

  3. Since I retired, my lifestyle is very casual. I love seeing posts like these. More, please!

  4. I love your posts like this where you show what you wore during the week! Living on the Oregon coast where winters are damp
(You are correct, it does feel colder when it’s damp out!) my challenge is how to look stylish while also dressing for comfort and warmth and your outfits are great inspiration!

    1. Awesome. Lucky you. The Oregon coast is stunning.

  5. I agree with everyone. You are real, not manufactured to sell stuff. I love your style. You are a decade younger but our coloring and body type are similar so I love seeing your real daily clothes. It was 91 yesterday and expected to be close today. So I am still in white jeans shorts and a crinkle top with Easy Spirit Denise Austin emove sneakers. Hokas just don’t fit me. I try to wear similar clothes to you but on a tighter budget so Landsend and JCP are my go too.

    1. It’ll be really hot when I get back to Ca too so it will be a big change. I love fall

  6. I agree with all the comments, I really enjoy seeing how you put everything together. Inspiring!

  7. I love seeing what you wear “in real life.” But, oh gosh, the Frank and Eileen clothes are just so expensive, just budget busting for me.

  8. Good morning, Jennifer. I love, love, love this post! I agree with what the other gals are saying. It’s really helpful to see how you really put an outfit together out in the wild. I bought the cropped jacket. I can’t wait until November for temps to cool off in SoCal so I can wear it. 😉

    1. Good morning!! I’m going to struggle when I get back to Ca because it’s going to be 101 the day we land!!

  9. Loved this post, Jennifer. Sooo helpful and really appreciate links.
    Thanks so much!

Yes! I really liked seeing what you wore during the week and where you went. Helps me decide what to wear for certain occasions. Sure enjoy your blog, pictures and ease of finding items you wear. Thank you!

  11. I enjoy seeing what you wear in real life … we all can use some inspiration when we’re searching through the closet for something to put together for the day’s activities.

  12. Great post. It’s good to see you enjoying the coast with your daughter. I appreciate you showing how to elevate comfortable, practical clothes into stylish looks for everyday activities. Yes, this weather definitely calls for socks – maybe your next knitting project? Hand knit socks are so fun!

    1. I’ve made many socks in my day, they’re so fun. I’m not sure I want to use such tiny needles again with my arthritis:)

  13. Leslie Lord says:

I think you have adapted your wardrobe perfectly for the PNW outdoor lifestyle. Great looks for your activities.
Good to hear that you have found a wonderful yoga teacher!
Enjoy your trip back to California and like you our grandson is my height and will be taller than I am very soon :-))
Next time you plan to pop over to the island let’s try again for a tea meet up at Murchies.

  14. Great outfits and it’s nice to see really wearable items. Always love your content, thanks for all your hard work!

  15. I like this kind of post, too. It’s nice to see what you wear daily. As others have said, it helps us put together outfits from our existing closet or what to buy to get the same look.
Vanessa will miss her mom time when you go back to California.

    1. And I will sure miss her!!!

  16. Love seeing all your everyday outfits. my life has become more active also so I’ve been gravitating towards more active wear. It’s great your doing the same.

    1. Yes, I am much more active here in Vancouver and need to continue it in California.

  17. Jennifer,
To echo the others, I like this post.
“Real life” clothing items. I make the mistake of buying what looks nice and a flattering color but realize I don’t dress that way in my life anymore.
    Too much wasted $$.
Q…. The Hoka link goes to the Men’s Clifton? Is this a mistake or do you wear the Men’s ? If so, how does the size translate ? I wear Bondi 8 .
Q2…Do you find booties or any other type shoe ( with a modest heel) difficult wear for an extended length of time ? My feet are becoming less “friendly” , I love my Hokas, but don’t necessarily want to wear them 24/7.

    1. I did buy the men’s Clifton. I do have some women’s too. Honestly, I just buy what fits best, no matter the name 🙂 I can and do wear a 1.5″ heel, but not for days where I’m putting in lots of steps. That’s why comfy, stylish flats are always on my radar. Hokas are pretty ugly to be honest but comfort is really critical for me.

  18. Yes, please keep this type of post coming! I find that your style and mine are very similar, and it helps to see other ideas for casual and comfortable outfits.

  19. Pamela K. says:

Please continue this type of post. This is my life style now. Thank you.

    1. My lifestyle is a bit different in CA but I will share that as well. I had no idea people would be so interested!
