Neutrals and I Need Your Help
Today I have an outfit that I love, plus I’d love to get your answers to a few questions. As much as I enjoy wearing color, neutrals have my heart. They’re timeless and easy to coordinate plus they’re less memorable than brighter colors which make them more versatile.
This faux suede moto jacket has been a best seller on AWSL for many months, with good reason. It comes in several flattering neutrals, it’s incredibly luxe and soft, and the price is amazing.

This fawn color coordinates with so many other colors. It feels as versatile as black…but a lot more flattering for many of us. It comes in sizes 00-18, I’m wearing a 6-8. Leather and faux moto jackets have a hard look to them, which I avoid, but this super soft, ultra-suede dials back the edginess because it lacks shine.

These are super-soft cords from Banana Republic which have a straight leg and high rise. I like the way the fuller leg helps add balance to my shape. I’m sure skinny pants will be back before we know it, but I’m not anxious to wear them anytime soon. How about you?

The surplice-wrap blouse has a shirt tail back you can wear out, or tuck in. It has a lightly draped front with a snap at the V which keeps it from gaping open, always a plus for me. The front is the perfect length to wear over your waistband which shows some waist definition but conceals your tummy. It comes in several patterns, regular and petite, sizes XXS-XXL. I am wearing a regular in small. The subtle lug sole combat style booties are from last year, similar here, and here, and here.
Now, here’s where I need your help-
Please feel free to answer in the comments, which I feel proud to say is a safe, nurturing environment for us to chat. If you’d like to be more private, simply respond to the email and tell me that way.
Why do you follow my blog? What it is about A Well Styled Life that you enjoy most? How does it differ from other blogs you follow?
Several of you have mentioned that you’ve given up reading other blogs, but continue to read mine. Why? I am honored, but I have never asked why and I would love to know.
I would love to know your fashion and lifestyle goals and how I might help you achieve them.
Could you also please share what country you’re from.
Thank you for being here and helping to make this community what it is.

That’s a cute outfit on you! The neutral palette with the color from the blouse works great!
I shop primarily in resell shops. I like to read your blog to see how “I should” dress as a 60 year woman. Then I read fashion blogs by younger women to see what is current in the young world. From the combined information I purchase my wardrobe from resell shops paying close attention to popular name brands. This is definitely a process that probably doesn’t make sense to most!
I love this blog because it gives me ideas on how to buy a few classic trendy pieces to update my, mostly classic, wardrobe.
I only watch your blog, I prefer neutral colours, black and beige being two, but I like to add something for more color such as a scarf or necklace etc., I like straight legs, I like tunic tops, I lean toward similar styles as yourself , you are doing a wonderful job of ‘how to’ Thanks Jennifer…. BTW I live in Canada

I read only yours and the “over 50” you share because i dont want to be sha kled to my phone. Ive always admired your style and your confidence and vulnerability when sharing personal information and videos of how you do your hair and makeup starting with a just out of the shower look. I do like almost everything you style but i dont enjoy shopping, and online shopping is never dependable fit wise. Most things you show are just too expensive for me but they give me great ideas and inspiration.
The posts from Walmart and Target were great but here in Maine i never seem to find any of those items but right now I’ll assume thats just a supply chain issue. Sometimes i wish i could just copy an entire look from head to foot. I love that you explore cruelty free skincare products. That means alot to me.
Every time i read your blog i feel more and more accepting of my age and body type.
Thank you!
Hi Jennifer, I read your blog because I like your style! I enjoy classic fashion and avoid trends; spending money on something I will only wear for one season does not appeal to me. Skin care is always of interest to me, especially reasonably priced products that offer good results. Thank you for sharing your talents with all of us.
Echoing the others that you honest and real. I like you style. You offer professional advice from years of experience in fashion. You have an open mind and try new things.
What good is Glamour or Vogue with all the super-trendy things on slim young models that I will never wear? I don’t have time to go to all the stores or order all the things that you do….it’s so informative to learn of all the discoveries and advice from all your research and experience.
I love the fun of re-styling mannequins, Would you Wear It, and Dressing Room Diaries. You see things I don’t see – or maybe I see them but cannot articulate them.
I love the reader’s comments section! For learning and entertainment.
It is often uncanny that you are facing a health challenge or body change and so am I! The same one (or similar)!!! And you have found a solution!
I have been told that I am a bit picky or particular about my clothes. I am ALWAYS relieved that you care about the same details – and so do many readers. I get that reassurance that it’s not just me!
I can google and read about stuff like anyone can, but I’d be reading one-offs that are anonymous. We’ve all gotten to know you, trust you and respect you tremendously.
Reading your blog and just a few others for several years has truly changed a part of me – I am more confident in how I curate my wardrobe and what I wear.
Thank you for everything!
I follow your blog because your choice of clothes reflect mine for most of the time.you give me new ideas to try out too. I find your writing is warm and honest and I feel like you have become a friend online. I am in Australia and so the seasons and the shopping don’t quite work but I can still use your ideas for my own wardrobe. I’d like to say ‘congratulations’ for getting it so right, well done Jennifer.
You keep it real. Although my style and colouring are different from yours, what I read here helps me dress for me. For instance, since I started following blogs like yours (I also follow Pamela Lutrell, Bridgette Raes, Debbie Roes and Imogen Lamport [and still read content from Brenda Kinsel]), I’ve begun incorporating more neutrals and quality basics in my outfits to achieve a more sophisticated look that still suits my need for a bit of fun and colour. Thank you so much! Pouting teen and 20-something boy-shaped models advertising trends in fashion shoots teach me nothing. You do!!! (The Netherlands)
I enjoy seeing many different clothing items similar to what I wear and how you style them. I appreciate that you don’t do a lot of makeup and hair product advertising. I really enjoy when you restyle the “would you wear it?” outfits.
Embarrassing-I should have clarifed in my comment that there is nothing wrong with dyeing one’s hair! (I did for 20+ years.) However, I have recently stopped & the change in my coloring has been challenging to adapt to, so I appreciate seeing similar hair tones on others.
Adapting to naturally gray/silver hair is a challenge I am dealing with now and will address in upcoming posts.Stay tuned:)
This isn’t a hard-sell “flog blog” & you appear to be one of the bloggers in my age range & who does not dye her hair (?).
I have followed several blogs/instagram posts for women over 50, but have discontinued all of them except yours. I retired 4 years ago from a job where I wore jackets and suits, and I miss that kind of dressing. I enjoy putting outfits together and have a wide selection of options for professional clothes and accessories. I have enjoyed collecting jewelry of all kinds. I continue to do some consulting, but between my retirement and the impact of COVID on more things getting done on Zoom, my wardrobe is in needed transition. I am culling my professional clothes and deciding what to keep and figuring out how to use some of the pieces I like most in different ways. I favor more classic styles most often with some quirk here and there and your examples are more appealing to me than many of the other blogs/posts I previously followed. Also, I am petite and rounded, not tall and willowy. I need comfortable shoes and boots without ridiculous heels. I live in a northern climate and wear warm clothes a good part of the year and I like my warm clothes and layers best. I need a wardrobe that functions for my current day-to-day requirements without looking too casual (sloppy) or dowdy. Your suggestions and comments are more useful to me than the others I have followed.
I enjoy your blog because I like your sense of style. I also appreciate how open you are about your struggles. I too have thin, fine hair and have been helped by your postings.
I live in Texas. I appreciate your sense of casual style and choice of items which are generally reasonably priced. I love that you share your fit and sizing tips, especially since I am similar in build (but slightly more petite). Your outfits are lovely, but not over the top for most of us. Thank you for professional, honest, and educational posts that have helped me with my wardrobe.
I’m fairly new to reading fashion blogs but I do really like yours because your style mirrors mine quite a bit. I live in the Pacific Northwest and I really like the casual, classic look which you pull off beautifully. It is apparent that you put some time and effort into your posts which are well thought out and well written. I am retired and quite active although have not done much shopping since COVID. I am trying to pare down to a capsule wardrobe and would like to see more on how to mix and match clothing to accomplish that. I enjoy seeing the try on sessions that you do and that you also provide budget options. Thanks for all the hard work you do on your posts!
From New Zealand so our seasons are opposite and clothes too costly to ship. But I am in my 60s, similar problems with skin and hair and same dress sense. I love that you have thoroughly researched your beauty products, have a great style that is not over the top but still fun. Always enjoy reading about your styling tips and your trips.
