Neutrals and I Need Your Help
Today I have an outfit that I love, plus I’d love to get your answers to a few questions. As much as I enjoy wearing color, neutrals have my heart. They’re timeless and easy to coordinate plus they’re less memorable than brighter colors which make them more versatile.
This faux suede moto jacket has been a best seller on AWSL for many months, with good reason. It comes in several flattering neutrals, it’s incredibly luxe and soft, and the price is amazing.

This fawn color coordinates with so many other colors. It feels as versatile as black…but a lot more flattering for many of us. It comes in sizes 00-18, I’m wearing a 6-8. Leather and faux moto jackets have a hard look to them, which I avoid, but this super soft, ultra-suede dials back the edginess because it lacks shine.

These are super-soft cords from Banana Republic which have a straight leg and high rise. I like the way the fuller leg helps add balance to my shape. I’m sure skinny pants will be back before we know it, but I’m not anxious to wear them anytime soon. How about you?

The surplice-wrap blouse has a shirt tail back you can wear out, or tuck in. It has a lightly draped front with a snap at the V which keeps it from gaping open, always a plus for me. The front is the perfect length to wear over your waistband which shows some waist definition but conceals your tummy. It comes in several patterns, regular and petite, sizes XXS-XXL. I am wearing a regular in small. The subtle lug sole combat style booties are from last year, similar here, and here, and here.
Now, here’s where I need your help-
Please feel free to answer in the comments, which I feel proud to say is a safe, nurturing environment for us to chat. If you’d like to be more private, simply respond to the email and tell me that way.
Why do you follow my blog? What it is about A Well Styled Life that you enjoy most? How does it differ from other blogs you follow?
Several of you have mentioned that you’ve given up reading other blogs, but continue to read mine. Why? I am honored, but I have never asked why and I would love to know.
I would love to know your fashion and lifestyle goals and how I might help you achieve them.
Could you also please share what country you’re from.
Thank you for being here and helping to make this community what it is.

I am a relatively new follower of yours who lives in Canada. After a lifetime of working in an office setting, feeling the pressure to look “professional and polished” at all times, I recently retired. I found myself in search of a new look that is polished yet not professional – something that is more comfortably “me”. I find fashion guidance and ideas suited to my age and appropriate to my new situation in your emails/blog.
I enjoy your dressing room diaries, an easy way to see what is in the stores and how it looks on a real person. I have the opposite body type as you, -pear! but I can guess how it will work for me by how it fits you( the opposite!)
I really enjoy your real life stories- health, hair, skin care, feet that have to wear more comfy shoes, the environmental effect of the clothing industry.
You have a friendly face and great style; that’s what drew me initially. I’m in your age group and I appreciate the sound fashion advice on looking stylish and current while being age appropriate. I learn something every time I read your posts. Sometimes I find myself asking “would Jennifer wear this?” Aside from the content, I like the layout and design of your page. It’s easy and casual.
The photography is the right amount of amateur (hope I haven’t insulted anyone) and settings are great. You look like you’re having fun! That makes me want to see what you’re up to next.
Absolutely loved the moto jacket, ordered an xl. The fit on the jacket was so small that I had to check the label to confirm that it actually was an xl. The quality was so nice that I hated to return it. Unfortunately, xxl was out of stock. Not sure if that would’ve fit though.
Hi Jennifer,
I can go on and on why I enjoy your blog and YOU so much but one word just sums it all up you
are fabulous in everyway. I know you put your heart and soul into what you do and it shows.
I really like that you are down to earth and show your human side. I LOVE that. I think if you lived
in Arizona we would be “gal pals.” I have friends of all ages. We happen to be close in age and share some of the same health issues, thyroid, arthritis, feet, carpal tunnel (I’ve had surgery on both back in 2012). I am a little bit older than you I believe, 70 years young.
Where in CA do you live. My home town was San Francisco, Sausalito, Larkspur, Stinson Beach (all Marin County). My hubby moved to CA from Vancouver, BC.
Thank you for everything you do, YOU are appreciated.
Take care, and stay safe.
Smiles,
Katherine
I continue to follow your blogs because you are genuine, you are open to comments and you project an image that I aspire to achieve.
Hello Jennifer and all: I would echo what everyone is saying regarding, price point, variety, relatability to the age you are (and I am). Your gift ideas were wonderful. I will say that I tried to order this Moto jacket from Nordstroms and had my order canceled. I suppose it was out of stock, I am going to try again, because I really like it. I have tried several links in your blog where items were sold out. I guess that proves you are hitting the mark! I have also used some of your wise suggestions (wore that pearl necklace yesterday because as you say, if not now, when?) I know that your blog takes a lot of work and expertise. Thank you! I live in Southern California but was raised in Pennsylvania so I am somewhat “fashion conflicted”. East coast more formal, West coast, who is formal?
Jennifer,
Your Well Styled Life is one I look forward to. Your clothing choices and accessories are very helpful. As others have stated, you select items that are reasonably priced and a great look for us older gals!
I enjoy when you include travel wardrobe and give your life adventures: moving, traveling and recovering from illness.
You inspire all of us.
I look at your blog to discover new styles and how to update my wardrobe.
You are the best!!!

I like your blog because you are so amusing and self deprecating. Your clothes choices are so wearable, unlike many bloggers. Although your figure is very different from mine, I still find plenty to learn in your posts. I especially like the DRD. Also I like that you give your dimensions and weight so I can compare with my own.
I am in England, so rather different climate from yours!
I’m from the USA. Your classic style is similar to mine and we’re close in age. I’ve always dressed in the classic style but it was boring as I have a hard time putting things together (colors). Matching colors is my biggest challenge. I have a closet full of pieces of clothing, but not many outfits. I’m learning to put pieces together that I never would have thought to do. I’m also wearing more color. I love the way you style the outfits. My fashion goal has always been to look polished and put together and with your help it’s starting to happen. I’ve always hated clothes shopping but now it’s actually becoming enjoyable. This past summer I bought a pair of pants you modeled that I never would have looked at in the store. You come across as very relatable and someone I would be friends with. I’ve learned a lot from you and look forward to reading your blog. I used to read another blog in addition to yours but have given the other one up. My husband has noticed and likes the changes I’ve made. Thank you for what you do!
I agree with all of the previous comments so I won’t repeat it all. I do not skip your posts because I gain more useful information about clothing styles, fit, color, etc. from you than from any other blogger. I especially like your Dressing Room posts because they make me feel like I’ve been shopping. Your explanations of why or why not a particular style is good for you, plus the comparisons between petite and regular sizing, are most informative. I’m comenting from South Louisiana where I am currently homeless, living in my daughter’s toy room, while my house is restored after a visit from Hurricane Ida. All my clothes are piled on sofas and boxes in my living room. I cannot buy more at this time but I still enjoy shopping with your blog.
I love looking at the different combinations and how you pull your clothes together. Our body shapes are very different so the styles aren’t always a match for me, but I love the color combinations. What got me hooked was when you had pictures of 2 outfits that you had started with 1 set of accessories and then changed the shoes, and other small changes to make a big difference.
You dance with the one that brought you
It means be considerate and loyal to the one who has been supportive, attentive, or helpful to you.
Some of the ones I started following and supporting have became so elite and just left the poorer of us behind. I’m sorry but I can’t pay $400 for a jacket or $200 for a blouse and be told what a deal it is. I’m fine with anyone moving up but at least give a nod to those who helped you get there. Show mid range and lower price range of similar item. (Thanks Susanafter60 for doing just that)
You stuck with us and include us. You also teach us and are just so down to earth. Tania too.
AND THATS WHY, I LOVE ❤️ 💕 💗 YOUR BLOG. Don’t change a thing.
Love Susan after 60 as well!
I like the features, DRD, WYWI, etc. I like you (a fellow Canadian-California transplant.) I love the virtual trips I get to take to Vancouver. Your style is different from mine, but I still like the outfits you put together for yourself. Most of all, I really like how you don’t jump on trend bandwagons and then promote them to death.
I am fairly new to you blog Jennifer and although I don’t comment often, I do enjoy the content very much. I am a neutral gal similar to you and feeling more confident injecting colour into my wardrobe. I follow your blog to gain insight into brands that are reputable and I find you are very good at covering a wide range of brands and retailers. I also love reading the comments of your readers Jennifer. You have created a wonderful community of followers. Thank you for all you do! I am from Canada 🇨🇦.
I first started following your blog when I saw a picture of the Inside Passage…and I thought hey, I know that scenery. I’m originally from Vancouver, living in the suburbs now for 30 years.
Your blog differs from other blogs because you are not in it just to make money…you honestly discuss issues regarding life and family and I feel we have some things in common, including hair issues.
I recently retired as a manager in a large corporate office and need help looking great in more casual clothes. I don’t have access to the same US stores as you shop at, and shipping with duty, etc., can increase the price a lot, but I shop wisely and incorporate classic pieces in my new wardrobe.
I like the way you style all neutral looks. They are instant posh. I am a person drawn to bold colors and colors all over. But I enjoy looking at other styles.
I live in the USA and follow your site because you are approximately my height and weight, although I am a few years older. I like to follow you to see what is in style and colors that are trending. I especially like to see the sizes you are wearing because it helps me when shopping to try sizes that I wouldn’t usually try. Keep up the good work.
Your content has taught me so much. I echo the other comments about dressing room diaries, relatability, honesty.
While I love reading your content, I have one negative comment and it is offered in the spirit of honesty. My one difficulty with your site is all the moving ads and perhaps you have no control over how the ads appear. I understand that advertising pays the bills. However, when every ad is flashing or moving, it is distracting and in some cases can trigger headache. The most serious reason I would hope you would address this if you can is that in addition to being annoying, these ads distract from your excellent content. Yours is the last fashion blog I read. Others I have given up on because of the intensity of advertising. Please know how much I enjoy your actual content and appreciate you yourself. You are a committed and outstanding blogger.

This is Grainne from Dublin, Ireland. I love your posts, we are the same height so I know your choices will suit me. Unfortunately, we don’t have the same shops as you but can generally find similar styles. I also like a neutral palette.
