Neutrals and I Need Your Help

Today I have an outfit that I love, plus I’d love to get your answers to a few questions. As much as I enjoy wearing color, neutrals have my heart. They’re timeless and easy to coordinate plus they’re less memorable than brighter colors which make them more versatile.

This faux suede moto jacket has been a best seller on AWSL for many months, with good reason. It comes in several flattering neutrals, it’s incredibly luxe and soft, and the price is amazing.

This fawn color coordinates with so many other colors. It feels as versatile as black…but a lot more flattering for many of us. It comes in sizes 00-18, I’m wearing a 6-8. Leather and faux moto jackets have a hard look to them, which I avoid, but this super soft, ultra-suede dials back the edginess because it lacks shine.

WEARING –  FAUX SUEDE MOTO JACKET  –  NECKLACE –  CROSS FRONT BLOUSE IN LAYERED RIBBONS PRINT  –  HIGH-RISE STRAIGHT CORDS  –  SIMILAR BOOTIES

These are super-soft cords from Banana Republic which have a straight leg and high rise. I like the way the fuller leg helps add balance to my shape. I’m sure skinny pants will be back before we know it, but I’m not anxious to wear them anytime soon. How about you?

The surplice-wrap blouse has a shirt tail back you can wear out, or tuck in. It has a lightly draped front with a snap at the V which keeps it from gaping open, always a plus for me. The front is the perfect length to wear over your waistband which shows some waist definition but conceals your tummy. It comes in several patterns, regular and petite, sizes XXS-XXL. I am wearing a regular in small. The subtle lug sole combat style booties are from last year, similar here, and here, and here.

Now, here’s where I need your help-

Why do you follow my blog? What it is about A Well Styled Life that you enjoy most? How does it differ from other blogs you follow?

Several of you have mentioned that you’ve given up reading other blogs, but continue to read mine. Why? I am honored, but I have never asked why and I would love to know.

I would love to know your fashion and lifestyle goals and how I might help you achieve them.

Could you also please share what country you’re from.

Thank you for being here and helping to make this community what it is.

  1. I follow your blog because your style and colour choices are similar to mine. I live in Alberta, so our weather is different but many of items you show are ones that I can see myself wearing.

  2. You make great recommendations for women who are 50+. Your dressing room “how would you wear it” is always fun. I appreciate alerts for sales, and I like your focus on casual, comfortable, wearable and stylish clothing. I read several women’s blogs, and yours is one I never skip.

  3. Always interesting and a nice choice in clothing. I’ve bought several items on your recommendation.

I agree with the common themes of relatability and honesty! My age, taste, body shape, size and colouring are very similar to yours, so I love that you basically “ preview” for me and guide me towards successful choices! Historically I’ve been drawn to long, oversized tops ( thinking to disguise my athletic shoulders and hide my post menopausal belly), but I have now donated those to my 5’9” daughter ( who thinks she’s won the lottery!) and am learning to be comfortable allowing my shape to show. Thank you! Please keep on blogging!

  5. That’s a good question, Jennifer! Yours was the first blog I found when I started looking for fashion advice for someone over 50. I like the things you style, even though our shapes are different and our preferences are a little different. You give me good ideas that I can adapt to my own tastes.
Also – I LOVE your dressing room try-ons! I live in the south and don’t always have the same items available, but they are still a great way to see what’s out there, and to see how you style them. That’s so very helpful – I am not that good at putting all the pieces together into a cohesive outfit!
Finally, your blog feels like talking to a friend. Not sure how to break that down, but there it is.

  6. I forgot to tell you that I am over 70 and have always taken pride in my appearance; and I love fashion. I like to find ideas for using pieces that I already have and discovering new color combinations. My style is classic and understated. I live in Missouri, USA.

I enjoy your blog, as you bring many ideas for the everyday woman. I am petite and I enjoy your various dressing room diaries and your explanations as to why it may not work for petite woman.
The best thing I have learned is one third, two thirds dressing. I have short legs and I look much better if I keep my tops, jackets, ,etc at a shorter length and for that reason I try to stay away from tunic style items, as they just emphasize the shorter legs. I live in British Columbia, Canada and enjoy all your recommendations but we do not have the the same stores but I do enjoy shopping in the US when I can, which I hope is soon! Keep blogging. I also find you relatable and in the same phase of life as myself, so enjoy how to make fashion work.

  8. The bloggers that I have dropped were lovely ladies, but their style was too different from mine, and/or the items they featured were priced much higher than I care to pay, even though I can. I just don’t think a person has to spend $250 for a blouse when there are attractive and reasonable alternatives. Your writing style comes across as a nice, REAL, friendly person. Keep up the good work!

  9. Hi Jennifer, I have been following you for awhile now and I really relate to you You are a little taller I am 5 feet. and petite. I love your style more casual which what works for me. Not over done. Your coloring is like mine, blonde hair, thinning, blue eyes. I love your fantastic smile.
I also know how you have issues just like the rest of us but keep going with your great blogs not only about clothes, products for skin & hair, hair tips, gifts etc. I think You are an inspiration!!
I’m from Minnesota . It’s going to snow today!
Oh by the way, I’m 65 and I think I can dress like you, I love the Talbots outfits you show, because its about the only place I can buy petites, that are so beautiful and I think high quality. Most stores around me are not even carrying them in the stores anymore, Nordstroms is one of them.
    Keep going lady. love you!

  10. I follow your blog for several reasons. You share classic fashions that look good on the average fifty plus woman who is seeking reasonably priced, stylish clothing. I also love your focus on colors and neutrals. I’m not much of a neutrals person (I mostly wear mid-toned brighter tops with black or denim jeans.) You and I are of similar coloring. Who knows, you may inspire me to add a few neutrals to my wardrobe, for a change of pace. The neutrals look great on you. Keep up the good work! USA

  11. I love your blog… it has encouraged me to try different ways to dress, I love the links to shop for items I like and I love the way your blog is put out…I live in Pennsylvania USA

  12. I enjoy your blog because your style is a bit like mine. You and I about the same size. I am from BC in Canada. I am sorry we don’t have the same stores as you do ☹️ I don’t like having to pay duty as am extra cost.

  13. Jennifer, I continue to read your blog because you give a variety of ways to wear an outfit instead of five photos of the same one. I find that I am often inspired to look at the items in my closet in a new light. Being from the Seattle area, I identify with your trips to Canada. I also love your dressing room feature where we see a variety of outfits. So one could say that I love variety in what I see. I also love your skin care and product features and your would you wear it. You encourage your readers to respond, which means I read all the comments, too. Your blog is perfect in many ways!

  14. Julie Traxler says:

You are honest about who you are. That comes through in your advice on skin, hair, feet, health issues, body issues and clothing choices. I have learned how to be less dramatic in my clothing choices and more authentic. We can’t turn back the clock on aging therefore we want to be as beautiful as possible. Also, I like the stores where you shop….good price points.
Thank you and God bless you!

  15. I started following your blog because you were originally from Vancouver Island, not far from my home. I know a silly reason. I stayed because of your fashion, kind heart, your honesty on new products for health, skin, hair, etc. and because you don’t have these huge “hauls” that arrive at your home and you try on and sell to your followers. I’ve unfollowed so many because of the constant pressure to shop. I don’t believe anyone needs all those clothes and I don’t believe all the pieces are good quality. Your fashion posts are interspersed with health, beauty, travel and that keeps it interesting.

  16. I follow you because we are the same age and live in the same place. I love to see what you try on in the stores. I have not been to the mall in a couple of years. I enjoy seeing the new skincare, hair, and makeup products you try. I like seeing where you go to get away.

  17. You are true to your style. Prices are more reasonable than others. An occasional spendy piece, but not $200 – $ 300 for a top which most of us wouldn’t choose. I also like neutrals as well.

Jennifer, I like the wrap blouse you’re wearing. It looks to have olive green in it as well ? True or is it just my screen ?

  18. Ginger Whelan says:

I read a few other blogs. I recently “quit” one as she started making political comments. Fashion and lifestyle is (should be) a respite from that, IMO. I also like the frequency of your posts – they have become part of my morning! While the style choices are not always my type, I appreciate seeing what is out there and how to style it for women of a certain age!

  19. Karole Sherlock says:

Greetings from Seattle. I started reading your blog because of Would You Wear it which is interesting and entertaining. I continue to read your blog for your sense of style that presents modern dressing in a way that is realistic and fun. I’m 70 but still interested in looking modern and appropriate for my slim frame. You blog is a wonderful resource and you feel like a friend.

  20. Have continued to read your blog because I think you’re very relatable, even if we’re not the same size! You’re not over the top, you’re not too pushy, but you have a great sense of your own personal fashion and show clothing and accessories at various price points. You’re honest in your critiques and stand up for yourself when needed. You’ve also let us into your life, sharing your travel, adventures and grand, and that’s appealing and relatable.
