Neutrals and I Need Your Help
Today I have an outfit that I love, plus I’d love to get your answers to a few questions. As much as I enjoy wearing color, neutrals have my heart. They’re timeless and easy to coordinate plus they’re less memorable than brighter colors which make them more versatile.
This faux suede moto jacket has been a best seller on AWSL for many months, with good reason. It comes in several flattering neutrals, it’s incredibly luxe and soft, and the price is amazing.

This fawn color coordinates with so many other colors. It feels as versatile as black…but a lot more flattering for many of us. It comes in sizes 00-18, I’m wearing a 6-8. Leather and faux moto jackets have a hard look to them, which I avoid, but this super soft, ultra-suede dials back the edginess because it lacks shine.

These are super-soft cords from Banana Republic which have a straight leg and high rise. I like the way the fuller leg helps add balance to my shape. I’m sure skinny pants will be back before we know it, but I’m not anxious to wear them anytime soon. How about you?

The surplice-wrap blouse has a shirt tail back you can wear out, or tuck in. It has a lightly draped front with a snap at the V which keeps it from gaping open, always a plus for me. The front is the perfect length to wear over your waistband which shows some waist definition but conceals your tummy. It comes in several patterns, regular and petite, sizes XXS-XXL. I am wearing a regular in small. The subtle lug sole combat style booties are from last year, similar here, and here, and here.
Now, here’s where I need your help-
Please feel free to answer in the comments, which I feel proud to say is a safe, nurturing environment for us to chat. If you’d like to be more private, simply respond to the email and tell me that way.
Why do you follow my blog? What it is about A Well Styled Life that you enjoy most? How does it differ from other blogs you follow?
Several of you have mentioned that you’ve given up reading other blogs, but continue to read mine. Why? I am honored, but I have never asked why and I would love to know.
I would love to know your fashion and lifestyle goals and how I might help you achieve them.
Could you also please share what country you’re from.
Thank you for being here and helping to make this community what it is.

It looks like you have the sleeves of the jacket rolled up and tucked under. Am I right? I like the jacket but given that it has zippers at the bottom of the sleeve and it doesn’t come in petite, I can’t contemplate buying it. I’d be disappointed and unable to get it altered by my tailor. Too bad – it looks very nice on you.
I really look forward to your posts. It helps me define my style. I love JJill clothing which you show. I live in New Mexico, USA. I love wearing nice outfits, makes me feel good about myself, confident. Just enjoy hearing your blog and the comments of other women.
Hi
I follow your blog because your taste is similar to mine, I am a little shorter but your dressing room diaries are very helpful. I also have fussy feet so I appreciate that you are not showing me foutwear that I cannot wear. Your clothes are classy and not grumpy and you avoid the whacky stuff which I appreciate.
I’m from the US
My goals I am trying yo lose weight and am looking to find some transition pieces. Of. Course if I love the piece… then I just love the piece.
I love your modern classic style. I am 5’3″ so I pay attention to the syles you wear for proportions for shorter ladies.
Hi Jennifer. I enjoy your blog for dressing room diaries and a realistic outlook on aging. I am a 58 year old female from northern Alberta.
You have a fashion style that appeals to me. Even though our body types differ, I feel that, for the most part, I can/could make your outfits work for me. Our hair is very similar so I enjoy seeing what you do with yours. I also like the tone of your blog. It is very encouraging and positive. You are very relatable and friendly. I’m a SoCal gal.
Hi Jennifer..I discovered your blog this past summer, when you had posted some pics of your visit to Vancouver!Living in the lower mainland I was intrigued..I have been a follower ever since.I love your approach to style and fashion…you are current without being trendy and offer realistic outfits and pairings that have helped me “ up my game”..I really enjoy the “ dressing room diaries”…thank you for the time and effort you put into the blog and and I will continue to learn from it.cheers,Cheryl
I love your blog and the inspiration you give me. The dressing room diaries are helpful, most are brands I shop and seeing them on you rather that a 20 something really helps. Your sizing info helps as well. You outfits are much my style and you inspire me to look at my existing wardrobe in different ways-combining colors, textures etc. I am sort of anti trend, maybe just a bit here and there ,and try to shop more in a classic direction. So that means that too many of my clothes feel the same. Yikes!!! But you do help me look at existing things in a new way. The helpful tips (brush rollers for instance) and on and on are fun. I feel like you could be a friend and that you seem honest about the clothing your present . Thank you. Seattle,WA
I follow you because you’re normal, you look like my friends and peers. We’re not size 2 and 5’7”, we’re vibrant, fun and middle age! I love that you go into dressing rooms and play with fashion and give us ideas. Some of us are missing girlfriends to shop with and you fill that void. Thank you for letting us shop with you!!
Jennifer,
I love your blog for many reasons. You may love neutrals but you also show other colors, you also model outfits that don’t necessarily flatter your body type but do some of your readers. You are honest about the products you share with us and have different price ranges for all budgets. Most of all I feel that you are real.
Hello
I live in Maryland, USA. I follow your blog because we are close in age. I like ideas for classic clothing. I love dressing room try on’s. I get ideas from different post and stories you share. Your taste is a bit more high end for me but I still Like to visit your blog. Talbets would be the most expensive store I would go to. I like old navy, Target and Walmart. Easy ways to follow trends.
I read your blog everyday because I can relate to you. I am petite and over 80, but the clothes and products you present are styles I wear and ideas you send our way help me to improve my appearance. Thanks
You look great in those soft neutrals. I follow your blog because you make being stylish accessible for many women, including those who have a more limited budget. You shop at stores that are available in my area (BC). In addition, you are positive and upbeat, and honest.
I do love your style advice… it’s so positive and gives good tips on how to dress for our bodies and hair/skin tones. But I follow because of your kind positivity!
I have left a few blogs that don’t pertain to me. I feel you are very honest and have such great topics that I can learn from and actually pertain to my lifestyle. I am 67, retired for five years and was an educator for 34 years. You give me incentive to look my best and your variety of skin care, hair, etc resonate with me. I am not interested in learning of bloggers grandchildren happenings as am not a grandmother. But, love hearing about your daughter as I am a mother of a beautiful daughter, aren’t we blessed! I say add grandchildren happenings to FB or other social media, this is not what I want to see when I open a blog post. Just my opinion!
I am from Oregon. Thank you Jennifer, love, love your blog!
You are a beautiful woman and are aging so gracefully!
I am one who is considering paring down the number of fashion blogs that I read regularly. It seems that many have become little more than advertising arms for the retailers that they’re affiliated with. I don’t see that as much in yours. I like bloggers who, like you, are willing to share their lives along with fashion advice. Over the years that I’ve followed you I’ve enjoyed reading about your travels, your move to your present home, your health challenges, your visits with your daughter, etc. Those things bring life and interest to your blog. If anything, I’d love to see more of that. My fashion and lifestyle goals include becoming a more ethical shopper, so I would certainly be interested in your thoughts and advice in that regard. I tend to skim through posts like Dressing Room Diaries because I’m in Alberta, Canada and I don’t have access to many of the same retailers as you do, but I still pick up occasional ideas from those.
Hi – I enjoy your blog because you present useful, ordinary ideas and styles, not crazy or one-sided. And I probably very much agree with your style esthetic. That said, you will honor others’ opinions and you encourage self-expression and building confidence. You also have segments that share your experience with various life-issues, ie, arthritis, hair-thinning, wrinkles, etc that certainly fit my age demographic. I like the to-do segments concerning hair styles, scarves, style tips, etc. You are down-to-earth and kind, qualities very much appreciated.
My style is most likely Chico’s influenced. My goals are to remain active and attractive within my abilities and possibilities. I am in the process of trying to downsize, house and wardrobe, not an easy task!
I am currently living in TX, but spent most of my life in the Chicago-land area. Thanks for your information!
I agree with the other commenters…reading your blog is like catching up with a friend and I feel a connection with you as we are close to the same age and stage in life. I have learned so much about clothing choices, color, beauty products, hair care, accessorizing and more. I find myself thinking about what you have said when I go clothes shopping.
I think it would be fun if you occasionally did a dressing room diary with someone who has a different body type. I would love to have a figure like yours, but it’s not to be!
In as few as words as possible (which is difficult for me … lol!), I visit and appreciate your blog because you are genuine, informative and stylish. -Brenda-
P.S: I live in Canada
I enjoy your blog everyday! I find reading blogs much more enjoyable than Instagram. The IG stories, reels, quick turn of a page is exhausting for me. I love your fashion styling, travel tips. You are very relatable. You always point out your fashion challenges with your body type and I always learn something. Keep it up!
I live in San Francisco Bay Area. (BTW, I’ve met your friend Bonnie Addario several times. She’s amazing! Jill Costello and her family are lifelong friends of ours. )
