New Skincare Products I’m Using for My Aging Skin

There’s no end to the great beauty products hitting the shelves these days. I’ve always loved experimenting with new beauty and skincare products. I prefer ones that are cruelty-free and choose them when I can. Here are the new skincare products I’m using for my older complexion these days.

Latest Skincare Products I’m Using and Loving

BOTTLE OF PURITO FERMENTED COMPLEX 94 BOOSTING ESSENCE ON FACECLOTH

I’ve long been a fan of Korean skincare products because they focus on hydration and use gentle ingredients. My gateway purchase for Korean skin products was this Purito Essence, which is now a permanent staple in my routine. I would not be without it. Because I love it so much, I branched out to try a few new brands.

Haruharu Wonder Black Rice Moisture Airyfit Daily Sunscreen

TUBE OF HALF FINISHED HARUHARU BLACK RICE SUNSCREEN
HARUHARU WONDER

The Haruharu Wonder line crossed my radar, and the reviews were so amazing that I decided to order a few things. Since I’m constantly experimenting with new sunscreens, this Black Rice Airyfit Sunscreen was where I started with the brand. I usually go for physical sunscreens, which are gentle on my rosacea. This sunscreen has them beaten. It is non-greasy, leaves no white film, and has an SPF50++++.

Its airless packaging helps keep the unused product protected from oxidation, and the tube collapses as it empties, so you get every last drop out of the tube. It’s loaded with niacinamide to soothe your skin, with a reef-safe formula suitable for even the most sensitive skin. Beyond that, it’s incredibly affordable compared to some other sunscreen favorites.

Haruharu Wonder Black Rice Moisture 5.5 Soft Cleansing Gel

HARUHARU BLACK RICE CLEANSING GELL AND BLACK RICE SUNSCREEN TUBES ON BATHROOM COUNTER
HARUHARU BLACK RICE CLEANSING GEL

The sunscreen was such a major hit…I ordered this Black Rice cleansing gel. It has a slightly acidic formula that includes fermented black rice, which is highly moisturizing. The gel is formulated with natural surfactants extracted from coconut that leave my face feeling clean and soft without making it feel tight or dry.

Beauty of Joseon Revive Eye Serum with Retinal Niacinamide

Revive Eye Serum with Ginseng & Retinal

I’ve tried this Beauty of Joseon sunscreen and really liked it, so I decided to try their Revive Eye Serum with retinol. The ginseng helps with skin elasticity, and the retinal helps smooth fine lines, while the niacinamide soothes and brightens. It’s not irritating to my sensitive undereye skin, and the skin feels nice and hydrated, so I’ll stick with it to see what improvements I see.

Sunday Riley C.E.O. 15% Vitamin C Brightening Serum & Luna Sleeping Oil

CEO VITAMIN C SERUM / LUNA SLEEPING NIGHT OIL

Once I learned that Sunday Riley was a B Corp, I knew I wanted to try some of their products! I started with this CEO Vitamin C serum first, and I love it. Vitamin C is a great antioxidant for the skin, but it’s also highly unstable in its ascorbic acid form. This serum is powered by THD Ascorbate, which is a highly stable version of Vitamin C, which will not oxidize or lose potency before you finish it.

I’ve also been using this Luna Sleeping Night Oil. This has a gentle retinoid combined with Blue Tansy and German Camomile, which are incredibly soothing to my sensitive skin. I apply this as the last step at night over everything else, then use it as an opportunity to massage my face in upward strokes. I’m not sure I will replace this when I’m finished with the bottle. As much as I love this product…they use the term Anti-aging in their marketing, and that phrase really rubs me the wrong way.

Dermatologist Duo

Last month I had an IPL procedure to help fade brown spots and get rid or some of the redness my Rosacea causes. My dermatologist suggested this duo to provide extra gentle care while recovering from the procedure.

ALASATIN REGENERATING SKIN NECTAR / SKINCEUTICALS EPIDERMAL REPAIR

Alastin Regenerating Skin Nectar

This Alastin Skin Nectar has been recommneded to me by several dermatologists to soothe post-procedure skin. I bought it three years ago when I had the microneedling done, and this time after the IPL. It’s intended to speed up recovery times, and I believe it has helped my skin both times. It’s pretty expensive so I use it judiciously when my skin is having a bad reaction to anything.

Skinceuticals Epidermal Repair

As many gentle and thorough moisturizers as I have, I decided to take their advice and get this Skinceuticals Epidermal Repair cream. I’ve used and loved several SkinCeutical products over the years, and know it’s a quality brand. Their sunscreens are terrific, and their VitC serum is one of the most highly recommended. This feels lovely on my skin, but as with the Alastin, is pricey, so I am being careful with it.

  1. Penney🇨🇦 says:

Thanks for the suggestions. I will definitely be giving some a try. A while ago you were going to check out products for crepey skin. Any luck? I’m finding it more and more.

  2. The photo of the sunset at Bellingham is stunning! As always thanks for sharing your recommendations. There’s so much out there, it becomes overwhelming.

  3. I started using Sunday Riley CEO Glow Oil in the AM and Luna Sleeping Oil in the PM. I love both products! They keep my 72 year old skin nice and moisturized. I also use Sunday Riley’s AutoCorrect eye cream. I tried others under my makeup, but this one works the best on puffiness and dark circles.

    1. Thanks for the recommendation

  4. After discovering Korean skin care, I have aquired many products (many!) and really love the gentle moisture products. I use many essences and toners and barrier creams etc, and those Haruharu products are both in my cupboard. I just recently added the APLB egf line of serum and lotion to try as I back off on the retinol products. I love the Skin 1004 centella for my roseacea and keep some in a light mister bottle when feeling a bit irritated through the day. I still use the regular brands like Estee Lauder Advanced night repair and Clarins Double Serum, but having a great time adding in a few new items for the softer touch. You can guess that I am a tried and true skin care junkie and love it. I don’t plan on changing that. Have fun with the new additions.

    1. I’d love to try that APLB egf line. Amazon seems to have a lot of it. Which is your favorite I should start with?

      1. The two growth factor ones I tried are APLB collagen EGF peptide ampoule serm and the collagen EGF peptide facial cream. Also tried the Pynkang Yul calming moisture barrier cream.
I have been ordering from Stylvanna and the products are really fresh, some BB dates are 2027, and there is no duty to Canada, and also shipping is either free or very small depending on the $ spent. I gave up on ordering from Amazon for these things due to controversy. Only problem is that it is so easy to buy too many items to try… kombucha essences, rice toners, centella essence, peptide essence and on and on. This seemed like a good way to dip into the growth factor bandwagon without spending hundreds.
Also, check No BS Beauty for honest not sponsored info.

      2. Thanks Dianne. It is all too easy to buy more of these essences, etc. Luckily the prices are reasonable. Pynkang Yul is a new one for me, I’ll be chekcing it out.

  5. Several months ago you mentioned the Purito Essence and I bought it on your recommendation. I know you are very careful about the products you use. I have been very happy with it. I think it might brighten my skin a bit and it t feels good to put on. I had a terrible reaction to a retinol cream after using it for 2 years. This Purito product seems to be very calming.

  6. Jennifer I’m still stuck on your ISDIN and ELEMIS lines and can’t budge from them. Love your suggestions let us know how the Korean line. Compares. Sandra Winfield

    1. Those are fabulous lines! I’ll let you know

  7. Julie Anne says:

Jennifer, while you’re in Canada, I’d like to suggest going into a Midnight Paloma shop and getting a sample of their cleansing balm. It’s vegan and cruelty free, made in small batches. After I used the sample, a little goes a long way, I immediately ordered from them. It removes all makeup and my skin feels soft and moist afterward. I have no affiliation with them, just lots of admiration.

    1. Thanks Julie Anne, It sounds lovely. They seem to be even sold in Nordstrom!

  8. I read on another blog, CupofJo, about benefit’s Precisely, my brow wax. I immediately went to Sephora & asked for helped matching my color. A little goes a long way in filling in my brows. It looks great for framing my eyes & lasts all day. Remember that a little goes a long way as too much product looks like Groucho Marx eyebrows. 😁 & can be seen from across the room.

    1. That sounds like a great product…in moderation:)

  9. Hi Jennifer, I’ve also tried the Purito essence on your recommendation and loved it – but Amazon Canada is not carrying it anymore. (Sad face) However, they DO carry the Haruharu sunscreen, so I’m ordering that; thanks for the recommendation. We happen to be going to Seoul soon (cruise from Tokyo to Seoul, very exciting!) so I’ll definitely be checking out more Korean skin care.

    1. Amazon.com will deliver to Canadian addresses…I’ve had them do it.

  10. My daughter uses some of the Korean Skin Care line and loves it!
I am anxious to try some of the products you recommended. However,I am traveling to Brussels,Belgium tomorrow to see my youngest daughter. When I get back,I will have to about ordering some products. ☺️

    1. Have a great trip!!

  11. Pai, a British company, makes several products for sensitive skin with redness. It is also a cruelty-free company, and does have a US shipping center. Their Phaze cleanser and Anthemis lotion works well for my sometimes-congested skin, because, why have just one skin issue🤨.

    1. I’ve not heard of Pai, but it sounds lovely.

  12. Based on your recommendation, I purchased the Purito fermented essence several months ago AND LOVE IT. I’m on my second bottle.
It doesn’t have a scent (that I can detect) and is a refreshing first step in my makeup routine.
I’ve put a couple of other products in today’s review on my “wish list” – so appreciate your reviews, Jennifer.

    1. I’m so glad you love it too!!
