Stylish and Practical Winter Handbags for Women Over 60
When winter arrives, I always find myself reaching for a purse that’s both practical and polished. It needs to be roomy enough for cold-weather essentials like gloves and hand cream without sacrificing style. In today’s post, I’m sharing some stylish, easy-to-carry winter handbags I’m loving that are perfect for this season.
My Favorite Winter Handbags

I adore my DeMellier Vancouver bag! The strap can easily be doubled to wear as a short-shoulder bag or lengthened to wear as a crossbody. Its structured shape holds quite a lot, and the clasp snaps closed securely. I opted for this taupe because it’s a seasonless color and looks great worn with white.

If you’re after a convenient grab-and-go bag that keeps your essentials secure and close, try a belt bag. One of my go-to bags is the Bond Sling Bag from Lo & Sons. It’s incredibly lightweight, and the convertible strap allows it to transform quickly from a sling to wear around the waist. My deep navy looks sold out, but it also comes in cognac, ivory, and black.

This Kurt Geiger Eagle Head bag is stunning with silver detailing and a cross-body chain, and it’s under $30! These popular bags seem to be available at many price points.

Talbots Velvet Knotted Clutch is a little showstopper for winter evenings. It has a detachable chain so you can carry it two ways. Perfect for holiday parties or date nights when you want to travel light, but still make a statement.

I love the luxe look of this Cuyana Mini Double Loop with Croco print. I love the unique double loop design, especially paired with the the croc texture. It’s compact, which means it’s just big enough to carry your day to day essentials without feeling bulky.

I love the ease of a crossbody. This Sol & Selene Divide & Conquer crossbody is a handy bag for staying organized on-the-go and the quilted fabric means it’s nice and lightweight. It’s got three zippered compartments and a snap pocket, so there’s plenty of space for all your stuff. It comes in 6 colors to fit any color palette.

Nothing says classic winter like a touch of houndstooth. This Houndstooth shoulder bag is under $50, and is great for adding interest to a monochromatic look. It’s made from eco-friendly vegan fabric with 1 main compartment, 1 internal zipper pocket and 1 internal open pocket.

AWSL readers know I’m a huge fan of Quince (you can check out my review on Quince here), and their handbag line is no exception. This Italian Leather Handwoven Convertable Crossbody can be worn three ways, and is under $90. It comes in 3 colors and can be carried as a clutch.

I love the quality of Cuyana products. This Mini Linea Bucket Bag is perfect for winter. It comes in four great neutral shades, including this yummy warm taupe color called “Clay” that will coordinate with so many colors in your wardrobe.

This Shearling Suede Crossbody bag from Talbots looks wonderful. It’s made with super soft suede with a faux shearling trim, in a gorgeous gray with silver trim…which is so nice for a change from all the gold trim I’ve been seeing.

This Medium Crossbody from Rebecca Minkoff has a structured boho vibe with fun details like the turnlock closure, tassel, and stud accents which gives it plenty of personality. It comes in a Moss shade or this Shadow gray.

I’m a big fan of handbags that can be styled in multiple ways. They’re perfect for anyone with a capsule wardrobe or those who travel often—a quick strap change, and you’ve got a whole new look. This Quince Italian Leather Handwoven Crossbody is super versatile and can be used as a clutch, crossbody, or shoulder bag and comes in 3 colors.

This Fossil Leather Hobo Bag Leather hobo bag is soft and slouchy in the best way, and I love how roomy it is in case you need to stash an umbrella or scarf. It’s the perfect grab-and-go bag for busy winter days!

This Dark Red Handbag is a great way to add a pop of color to your winter outfits and is very reminiscent of my more expensive DeMellier bag. If you prefer a neutral, it also comes in black, brown, and cream.

I am going back and forth between my DeMellier and this Totême convertable crossbody that I bought myself for my 68th birthday last summer. They call it a clutch but I usually have the strap on and wear it as a shoulder bag.
What handbag are you carrying this winter?

I have a black croco shoulder bag and have been wondering if croco is actually still in style…purchased it years ago and enjoyed it for a number of years. Hmmmm….think it would be worth another look and take it out of its storage bag????
It’s a classic and always in style! Bring it out and enjoy it Margie, it sounds lovely.
I have discovered an online company from Canada called Poppy and Peonies. They are environmentally sustainable with vegan leather. I ordered a tote for my daughter and it is lovely.
The second picture of you in the post is so flattering and cool. Good for you!!! (with the blue vest and blue bag)
Thanks Mary!
Love the choices, I might have to clean out my handbag collection, to make room for one or two of these. Love Quince…
Quince is hard not to love, I agree. I cleaned out my handbags last summer and was surpised how many hadn’t been used in over 20+ years!
Jennifer,
Check out a wonderful Ontario, Canada company, “Poppy and Peonies”.
An entrepreneur with beautiful products and a great story.
Great handbags. I really like the Quince bag. I wasn’t able to wear shoulder bags but now that I’ve had shoulder surgery I think I will look for one.
I really enjoyed your post – I like the handbags you featured and I have the Kurt Geiger bag you featured. I want to try ordering from Quince – the only thing I’ve purchased from them is a set of sheets, which I like. I also loved every one of the outfits that you featured today and you look great in them! One purse brand I’ll contribute is MZ Wallace – I like their lightweight quilted bags – I have a grey one that I like to carry for winter. Thank you for your inspiring postings!
Yes, MZ Wallace makes great bags and I love how light the are.
I vary between a crossbody and a tote style. However, I would like to have a choice for a handbag per outfit, but that will be later.
I own 6 Cuyana handbags and they cannot be beat for functionality and quality with their price point. I own many more super expensive designer bags and I come back to Cuyana, day in and day out.
I agree about their quality and have gifted them several times.
Great post! I am carrying the Quince convertible bag (that looks like Clare V). With use it has become buttery soft and I totally recommend it. It has short and long straps which I like. I have the same Demeillier as you in taupe and I struggle to style it in winter against my dark neutrals (navy and black). I just need to wear it! Mayne I need some taupe booties. You’re right it’s surprisingly roomy. I love anything reminiscent of the Celine box bag!
Love handbags! I just got a Cole Hahn slouch bag on sale! Nice post with so many options.
