Weekend Reading 08.02.25

I’m not sure how August rolled around so quickly, but the summer still feels in full swing to me. We’re running our portable A/C most days and enjoying the quieter pace. Today’s email is short and sweet because it’s a holiday weekend here in Vancouver and we have a small trip planned. Yipee!

OUTFIT DETAILS HERE!

On my radar:

  • Simple morning habits to maintain a tidy home…I aspire to do all of these:)
  • I love how fresh this tea tree scalp treatment leaves my scalp feeling.
  • I enjoyed this article on Aging Gracefully
  • I’m thinking of fall booties and mourning the closing of Munro. I could always rely on them for comfortable, stylish booties, so I’m now hunting for a replacement brand. All suggestions are welcome.
  • Slim-soled sneakers with a retro vibe are a continuing trend, and I’m here for it. In fact…I’m here for any comfy shoe trend that looks stylish and fits my foot. I snagged these at the Nsale, and they’re still marked down until tomorrow.
  • J.Crew has up to 50% off summer styles

  1. The Nordstrom website still offers a number of Munro styles, all marked down. Not all sizes/widths are available, but there’s still some selection.

  2. Sherreen Brusca says:

I just recently found this blog and am loving it so much! Thank you for all of your insight. I look forward to reading each and every day.

  3. Enjoy your holiday weekend trip! The weather has given us a two day reprieve with a breeze here in Colorado. However, the 90 degree weather is back all this coming week! I’m ready for 70 degree weather! I’m wearing Easy Spirit and Skechers shoes all this summer. They have the wide size 6.5 and 7.0 that I need for my very painful arthritic feet. I also prefer soft insoles and thicker soles to give me a cushioned step. They are reasonably priced as well.

  4. I, too, am mourning the closure of Munro. My Munro ankle boots have been my fave for years.

Hi Jennifer, I recently found your blog and couldn’t be happier. I am appreciating your down to earth style and hints on how to live well as older ladies. Thanks!

  6. I miss Munro, too, and ordered several pair right before they closed. My foot is narrow so the were my go-to for a great fitting shoe. You might check Poshmark for booties, etc. There are a lot of options. Have a great weekend!

  7. Thank you for turning me onto Quince. I bought the wide leg soft jeans you showed us. And while I was there I got a pair of their linen pants. So soft. I always find something I can apply to myself in your blogs and I look forward to it every day.

Also I have two pair of Clark’s booties – one brown, one black. They have served me well for around 20 years. Sadly I can no longer where a heel so I will be looking replacements.

Didnt know you were a knitter! I was reading one of your old posts about “swatching “ for a project. I’ve been knitting for years and this year I’m determined to finish several sweaters I have languishing in my stash. Some just need to be pieced together, others have more finishing to do. I’d love to see a fashion forward post on your finished objects.

    1. I adore knitting but my projects seldom get worn. I realized it’s the meditative process of knitting I love and the outcome is secondary.

  9. Daneen Hirbe says:

Please let us know how well the Tea Tree Scalp treatment works. I just used Vitality extracts, Hair Envy, pure essential oil blend last night. I slept through the night without an itchy scalp.

    1. I’ve used it before and know it works well! The tea tree oil is very refreshing.

  10. I missed the memo that Munro had closed. I am so sad! No one else has supportive, steel-shanked shoes that fit like theirs! I’m grateful that you shared the news.
