9 Winter Hand Creams for Aging Skin

This time of year can be tough on our hands. Between the cold air outside and the dry heat indoors, I find my hands feeling drier than ever as the season wears on. Combine that with aging skin, and you have a recipe for rough, chapped hands that need some serious TLC. I’ve tested out my fair share of hand creams over the years, so today, I’m sharing nine best-selling ones that really stand out. These picks cover everything—from rich hydration to anti-aging ingredients—and they’ll make all the difference in helping your hands feel soft, smooth, and ready to take on winter.

I’m currently carrying this teeny Aveda Hand Relief, which has the calming shampure scent. I picked it up at my last haircut. I love the scent so much I’m going to get a full-sized tube.

Nécessaire The Hand Duo for Aging Hands
Nécessaire The Hand Duo

Let’s be honest…our hands often reveal our age more than anything else. The skin on mine is looking more papery than ever these days. Despite years of applying sunscreen and keeping them moisturized, I’ve still noticed my hands have a crepey texture and that telltale loss of volume. After having such great results with Nécessaire’s Body Retinol (which I talked about in this post), I decided to try their Hand Duo. The set includes both a hand cream and a hand retinol. After a few months of use, I’ve seen a real improvement in the look and feel of my hands.

  1. I have terribly dry skin, and in the winter my fingertips crack. The very best thing is pure, organic jojoba oil, which I find on Amazon. I pour some in a shallow jam jar, heat it a little in the microwave, and soak my fingertips. Afterward, I rub the rest of it on my hands and dry the excess off. It absorbs in a very few minutes thanks to the cellular structure of the jojoba oil. My nails, cuticles and hands are so much better! I also use it on chapped lips and cheeks.

    1. What a brilliant idea!!

    Hi Jennifer!

Thank you for such an informative site; I look forward to receiving it!

Quick question: I ordered two long “duster” jackets (black and a gorgeous coffee color) from Amazon after seeing a recent blog. They just arrived and I am wondering how you recommend they fall on one’s lower half. The top fits beautifully, but I have hips a bit wider than shoulders and am unable to “close” it fully over my hips. Seems it may be designed to be worn open versus meeting in the middle, but I am interested in your thoughts.

    Thanks in advance,

    1. Mine don’t close over my hips either! The look should be with worn open with just a peek of your underlying outfit.

  3. On another subject, I love your watch, may I ask what brand it is?

    1. Thanks, I love it too. It’s a vintage Cartier that my husband surprised me with about 42 years ago. He found it marked way down at a jeweler that was going out of business.

  4. The trick for me is to use a product with a pump. One hand on the run and I’m done. Have a Trader Joe product that is a gel with a pump. Great for the car and no slippery steering wheel. Thought the summer heat would cause product to get weird, but not an issue. Keep a product with a pump by every sink. Use it.

    1. I agree, pumps make it so easy!
